always boot from Elrepo kernel

Hello All, I purchased some Dell Latitude 3570 laptops. They came with Ubuntu preinstalled. ( Which I swapped for Centos7) I have to use Elrepo kernel on these machines to get some of the fn function keys to work. So I installed Elrepo's kernel-ml and selected this kernel with: # grub2-set-default 0 ( after disabling secure boot) The problem I see is that after a next kernel update, the new Centos kernel will be nr 0 and the machine will boot from that kernel if I tested this correctly. Is there a way I can enable elrepo kernel update but not the regular Centos kernel? Many thanks, J.

When I tried to send a print job the job just sat in the print queue. I killed the job and deleted the printer, then re-installed the printer using the Printer configuration tool found under System/Administration/Printing. I've tried all manner of settings, both on the Libre Office document and in the Printer configuration tool. Now I can print to the printer but I cannot get the printer to print in Landscape orientation. Only portrait orientation comes out no matter what settings I choose. I've done a bit of Google work but I find nothing that appears applicable to my specific issue of not getting landscape prints no matter what setting I choose. The HPLIP web site says the latest version of hplip for my machine, RHEL 6 because they apparently have not heard of CentOS, is hplip-3.16.9_rhel-6.0.x86_64. CentOS does not have this version available in the repo. What's a guy to do? How to move /var to another partition

Hello, I am getting low on space in my /(root) partition. I have 23GB free. I have 350GB in my /home partition. I am the only user. I was experimenting with virtualization and it causes the root partition to get very low. I would like to move /var from the root partition, to the same partition as /home, if that's safe to do. Or, resize /home and add another partition for /var I also don't want to screw the pooch doing it. This is over my head. The more I read about it, the more confused I get. TIA

PHP vulnerability CVE-2016-4073

Hello, My server with CentOS 6.8 just failed PCI scan, so I'm looking into vulnerable packages. PHP 5.3.3 have multiple vulnerabilities, some of them are fixed/patched or have some kind of workaround. But I can't find a way to fix this one. Red Hat state: under investigation. https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/cve-2016-4073 This CVE is 6 months old, and it doesn't look like it will be fixed. Does anyone knows the way to go around this? Except blocking mb_strcut() function. Thanks!

Using keepass on Centos 6

Is anyone running keepass on C6? I have a rather large password database under Windows that I want also to use on my Centos systems. It seems that keepass is not available, it relies on mono and there may be bugs. Googling also seems to suggest that I should download the source code and compile to install. The nux repository seems to have a version for C7, but not for C6. Many suppositions and few facts - perhaps someone knows better? Thanks!

smbldap-passwd does not update samba password

Hi, On CentOS 7, when I execute smbldap-passwd to change password it does change LDAP password but _NOT_ Samba password. This is true while running smbldap-passwd either as a regular user or a root. Any idea what can be wrong on my server? Thanks, Bernard

Folks I'm having problems installing Mariadb in Centos 7. OT: Areca ARC-1220 compatible with SATA III (6Gb/s) drives?

Running C6 fileserver. Want to replace 7 year old HDs connected to an Areca ARC-1220 raid sata II (3Gb/s) controller. Has anyone used this controller with newer 2TB SATA III (6Gb/s) WD Re drives like the WD2000FYYZ or the WD2004FBYZ?
