multipath

I have inherited a system set up with multipath, which is not something I have seen before so I could use some advice The system is a Dell R420 with 2 LSI SAS2008 HBAs, 4 internal disks, and a MD3200 storage array attached via SAS cables. Why does multipath not create a mpath device for the system disk sdc, there is no blacklist in the mulitpath.conf file. If I do a dry-run mulitpath -d command, it sets up mpathh on sdc, but apparently not on boot. Why not? I should say that the system has not been rebooted since well before I took it over, it has been up for over 400 days. the sdd and sdf disks have a single partition, but apparently no mpath device for the partition, how to I create one? Yum java-devel not listed installed

Folks I performed an install of "java-devel". Several packages got installed. So far so good. Yet, when I performed yum list installed | grep java-devel and also yum rpm -qa | grep java-devel it did not show up as already installed. This behavior appears both on Centos7 and Centos6. This bothers me because as a time-saving effort, I maintain the last output of "yum list installed" and quickly determine whether it's worth running yum. True, yum would "do nothing", but that takes several seconds. Is there some simple explanation? It works for all the other packages I've installed. David

If you did, instead, "yum list installed | grep java | grep devel" it would work. Your "yum rpm -qa | grep java-devel" isn't a valid yum option. The correct command: rpm -qa | grep java-devel would fail to find it for the same reason your "yum list" command did. Try instead: rpm -qa java\* | grep devel that should turn it up: java-1.8.0-openjdk-devel.x86_64 1:1.8.0.144-0.b01.el7_4 @updates Your /var/log/yum.log shows the names of the packages installed, which can help if there is confusion.

compile webkit

I am trying to compile webkitgtk I downloaded the webkit source, extracted CMake Error at Source/cmake/OptionsGTK.cmake:12 (message): GCC 4.9.0 is required to build WebKitGTK+, use a newer GCC version or clang I downloaded 2.14.7 - just like CentOS 7.4 has, how can I be getting a GCC error ? My goal is to get the MediaSource package in webkit working. It seems to not be enabled. Is there a better way ? Thanks, Jerry

Display IP addresses on the system console *before* the login prompt.

I have a bunch of VBox Linux VMs (CentOS 6/7, Debian7/8/9, Ubuntu (14.0/16.04, Alpine) that get dynamic IPs. To get their respecitive IP addresses I have to login and run 'ip addr' I would like such info to be displayed on the VM console *before* the login prompt. Ideally an ASCII log + info (see below sig line). Thus, I can get the info from the VM console without having to login. I read up on /etc/issue but adding "\4{eth0}" to the existing string does not work. prevent users from fiddling with network?

Dear Experts, "this is system from the hell!" Than was my first reaction when I realized that logged in with GUI (X11) user can turn off (and on) network interfaces. Without being in sudoers file. Wow, this is scary to see on workstations I manage centrally. Even though I did consider local user to be able to execute the command "shutdown" (which distinguished RedHat and CentOS from other Linux flavors: after all local user can yank power cord off the wall). Sorry about my little rant above. Could someone point me into right direction as to how do I disable the ability of (local, logged in through X11) users to fiddle with network interfaces. Even worse, they can create new profile and define for interfaces to behave differently... In the past I could just add USERCTL="no" into interface ifcfg-... file inside /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts which doesn't seen to have any effect on latest CentOS 7. What is my pilot error here? (Ignorant in new shiny extremely MS Windows like for _ignorant_ person - me - system). Thanks a lot for all your help! Network scripts ifup-post

Hello, since updating to Centos 7.4 the ifup-post script in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts does not behave as it did before the update. I use it to configure additional routes via /sbin/ifup-local with the parameter of the interface being upped, but it seems to pass only 'lo' as interface name. Before it passed correctly 'eth0:0' of the virtual interface. Added a line in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup-post, near the end when it calls the ifup-local, echoing the variable of ${DEVICE} to a file and all that showed up was 'lo'. Is this a bug? Or how can I correct this behaviour? Thanks, Thomas
