CentOS 7 not shutting down correctly

Hi, I have CentOS 7 with KDE installed on my workstation. Sometimes - like just now - the system refuses to shutdown correctly. The problem appeared since I installed the OpenVAS vulnerability scanner (the one from EPEL), so I don't know if this is linked. When I try to shutdown the system, I see shutdown messages, and then it stops short on the following message: [ OK ] Stopped logout off all iSCSI sessions on shutdown After this I can wait for hours, nothing happens until I hit the Reset button. Now I'm a bit frustrated because this kind of behavior was the reason I left the Windows world back in 2001, to discover the joys of Slackware and then Red Hat. I also notice this kind of thing never (ever) happened with CentOS versions 5.x and 6.x. Any suggestions? systemctl reboot -- server not accessible after reboot

Hi, Such a simple problem, but I can't figure out the cause. Supermicro server with a Xeon E3-1200 cpu. 1U entry level item. Using CentOS 7 from ~$root --- systemctl reboot Server disconnects my ssh connection and never comes back up. Go to the server and the power is on but the server is not accessible by ssh. When I connect a monitor and keyboard --- non-responsive. It's like it's in suspend mode. I push and hold the power button until the server fully powers down. Push power again and everything boots, goes to prompt, and all is well. When I try systemctl reboot directly on the server. Same problem --- does not start to login prompt. Manually power down and power up again --- works and all is well. Anyone have this problem before? I've checked all the BIOS options and I can't find anything misconfigured. Thanks for your help. denyhosts-2.9-4.el7 not resync'ing

Everyone, It is apparent that the epel version of denyhosts on Centos 7 which is denyhosts-2.9-4.el7.noarch does not resynch with : SYNC_SERVER = http://xmlrpc.denyhosts.net:9911 According to : https://www.centos.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=56989 the problem is related to a version update problem in the epel repositories. sendmail

I an running CentOS7 in a docker container. I need to send email from that container so I installed sendmail and then I run: m4 /etc/mail/sendmail.mc > /etc/mail/sendmail.cf` and when I try and send mail it fails with: larry.martll(a)gmail.com... Connecting to [127.0.0.1] via relay... larry.martll(a)gmail.com... Deferred: Connection refused by [127.0.0.1] Anyone know how I can configure sendmail so that I can send mail?

/var/run/... being deleted :((

Hi, what keeps deleting files and directories under /var/run? Having them deleted is extremely annoying because after a reboot, things are suddenly broken because services don´t start.

serial guests not booting until console attached

Since the update to 7.4.1708, I've got one KVM host that behaves very similarly to: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=686524 These guests were installed with (snipped for brevity): virt-install --name xxx --memory 2048 --vcpus 2 --location xxx --disk xxx --disk xxx --network bridge=br0 --graphics none --autostart --extra-args "console=ttyS0 ks=xxx" --rng /dev/urandom Those guests simply hang until I use "virsh console <guest>", at which time I see kernel messages immediately, so it seems like the guest's GRUB2 runs normally, but the guest kernel does not. Is anyone seeing similar problems?

how to prevent files and directories from being deleted?

Hi, how can I prevent files/directories like /var/run/mariadb from being deleted on reboot? Lighttpd has the same problem. This breaks services and makes servers non-restartable by anyone else but the administrator who needs to re-create the needed files and directories every time and has to figure out what selinux labels they need. This causes unnecessary downtimes. This is entirely inacceptable. This totally sucks. -- "Didn't work" is an error.

I'm sorry for all this trouble; I followed ElRepo's instructions and now I have wifi! Kernel crash

Hi everyone, I updated the kernel from 3.10.0-514.16.1.el7.x86_64 to 3.10.0-693.2.2.el7.x86_64 . While I was following these steps https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Laptops/Wireless/Broadcom (I knew that I needed to compile again everything) in order to activate WIFI, the laptop crashed doing # depmod -a # modprobe wl Noting that I replaced (naively) # depmod $(uname -r) from the guide (stupid mistake, I use tcsh and the command above didn't work; that's why the replacement). After the crash, I had to manually shutdown the laptop. Then, I booted the same kernel and it went to 'emergency mode'; as I don't have the root password (second stupid mistake; I'm superuser but I don't remember the root password/nor I can change it -I don't know-) I couldn't do a thing. Then, I booted the previous kernel, 3.10.0-514.16.1.el7.x86_64 (which works fine), removed 3.10.0-693.2.2.el7.x86_64 (yum remove), and reinstalling it from zero. Oddly, when I boot with the new kernel, the laptop crashes before login; the caps lock light tilts and nothing happens. I've done this several times and the same. I know I can use the older kernels to work, but I really want to fix this if possible. Thanks in advance.
