Samba help

Folks I have a Centos7 system (SOFA) and want to install a Samba share named "STUFF" for the machines inside my home. All users in my home have read access to the share, but only one user "me" has write permission. The configuration below worked just fine when the Samba system was on Centos 6, but did not work under Centos 7. The client machine is Windows 10. I have changed all "private" information for this message. The Centos 7 machine is running with SELINUX disabled, and effectively without firewall. Windows network browsing finds the computer, but not the share. (it used to find the share with Centos 6). The server name is SOFA The share name is STUFF the Workgroup name is MYGROUP The Linux account is "melinux" The logon name from windows is "me" I have issued the command smbpass -a me <password-for-me> <password-for-me> smb.conf contains: --------------------------------------------- # Samba Configuration [global] dns proxy = no hosts allow = 192.168. 127. 10. localhost hosts deny = ALL log file = /var/log/samba/%m.log max log size = 50 netbios name = SOFA printcap name = /dev/null printing = bsd security = user server string = Samba %v on sofa socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192 username map = /etc/samba/smbusers winbind use default domain = no workgroup = MYGROUP [STUFF] browsable = yes case sensitive = no comment = STUFF on sofa create mask = 0755 directory mask = 0755 force user = melinux guest ok = yes path = /home/samba-share write list = melinux ---------------------------------------------- smbusers contains: ---------------------------------------------- melinux = me ---------------------------------------------- Where have I gone wrong? run bash <filename> from cron

This might be a bit OT, but I've never had to do this before and what I've googled doesn't seem to be working. I have an ansible playbook that I'm working on that I want to run as a cronjob. One task I'm having trouble with is where I have a text file with lines like: rd.pl "blah blah" rd.pl "blah blah blah" This text file has to be 'executed' using 'bash filename.txt'. (Don't ask why, I'm working on code that isn't mine.) When I run the playbook in a console this bit works perfectly. However, when it's being run from cron, it dies with 'rd.pl: command not found'. My original thought is that cron's $PATH is missing the location to this rd.pl file (it's in /root/bin), so one suggestion from the Google was to add the path into /etc/crontab, but I'm still having the same problem. At this stage, I've no idea what to try next. Any ideas? Hi, folks, So I installed xfce on my Netbook. While I was in Chicago, I worked out how to tell it to bring it up. It came up. As root. With no obvious way to tell it to show a login screen first. Did I miss something? mark

Strrange behavior of VirtualHosts in Apache (CentOS6)

Logitech Brio 4K Ultra HD Webcam - 960-001105

Everyone, I was hoping to be able to plug the Logitech Brio in and have it work, but it did not. I can have it connect to a Windows 10 laptop and have it function, so I know the camera works. The Centos 7.4 is recognizing it when I plug in the usb 3.0 cable. VMWare Workstation 14 on CentOS 7?

Hello, did anybody succeed in installing/updating to VMWare Workstation 14.0.0-6661328 on an updated CentOS 7 (kernel 4.9.54-203.el7.centos.x86_64)? Here it fails at building vmmon/vmnet modules. I couldn't find anything about this on the Internet.. WS seems to get less popular and unfortunately reproduces the same inability to install upon kernel updates, that drives me nut for years now. Please don't suggest other VM sw, I'm stuck to VMWare WS at work.. Regards, -- wwp

slow libreoffice

Hi, so what do I need to install to prevent libreoffice from being so slow that it becomes unusable? This issue has been there with Fedora years ago, and now there´s same issue with Centos. Back then, there was a package you could install to make it work at normal speeds, but last time I checked, this package doesn´t exist anymore. This issue is particular to the Fedora/Centos versions of libreoffice and does not occur with other builds like the one you can download from the libreoffice web site. I was trying to make a chart and it became so slow that it´s unusable. I guess scrolling is only fast enough because I have a powerful graphics card.

home on nfs

Hi, I have the home directory of a user on an nfs server and mount it on a client. When the user logs in, they end up in the root directory rather than in their actual home directory and need to cd into it. The user can read and write to their home directory, so it kinda works fine --- but only kinda. When the user starts emacs, some of the settings in ~/.emacs are not applied, but the saved desktop is being loaded. Both machines are running Centos 7.4. What could be wrong with the nfs mount? -- "Didn't work" is an error.
