cannot access file: Input/output error

I have a file on a backup usb drive that I get the following error: # ls -ls P* ls: cannot access Power usage.xls: Input/output error How can I delete this file so that the nightly backup will write out the current version to the backup drive? I tried: # rm -f Power\ usage.xls rm: cannot remove `Power usage.xls': Input/output error Which you can see did not work. thanks

rpcbind fails to start after creating virbr0 bridge

Hi, In my office I have an HP Proliant server running CentOS 7. It's a minimal install without GUI. The machine has two network interface cards, and for now it's acting as gateway/firewall, and it's running ntpd, Dnsmasq and Rsnapshot. I'd like this machine to also be a KVM virtualization host, so I installed qemu-kvm and libvirt. The interface facing the LAN is enp3s0, so I created a virbr0 bridge like this. # /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-enp3s0 DEVICE=enp3s0 TYPE=Ethernet ONBOOT=yes BRIDGE=virbr0 And then: # /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-virbr0 DEVICE=virbr0 TYPE=Bridge ONBOOT=yes BOOTPROTO=static IPADDR=192.168.2.1 NETMASK=255.255.255.0 I replaced enp3s0 in my firewall script and in dnsmasq.conf and rebooted, and everything seems OK now... or almost. Here's an unexpected error I get. # systemctl --failed UNIT LOAD ACTIVE SUB DESCRIPTION ● rpcbind.socket loaded failed failed RPCbind Server Activation Socket This error appeared since I created my virbr0 interface, so I presume it has something to do with it. Unfortunately, I'm clueless. Any suggestions? High load average of processes on CentOS 7.3.1611

Hi, I am working on an application which I previously tested on Centos6.6 and now after compiling same application on centos7.3.1611 and running I am observing a high load average. load avg with centos 6.6 remained to be 1.5 in same test where it remains >4.5 in centos 7.3.1611. The application uses high network resource to communicate over UDP and SCTP. there is zero process disk IO with application(zero logging in runtime). Though CPU usage of application is same but load average is consistently high and I am not able to debug the reason. Any insights. *Warm Regards* *Lakshay Mudgal*

Concern: Supersize io operations (IO block size more than 4KiB) is split in to number of 4KiB blocks Supersize io operations (IO block size more than 4KiB) is split in to number of 4KiB blocks OS: CentOS 7.3 kernel Version: 3.10.0-514.el7.x86_64 Any IO (write) block size more than 4KiB is split in to number of 4KiB blocks on Centos 7.3 ( where I don't see similar issue on 7.2). I have a setup that involves TWO CentOS 7.3 servers. I tried to run 4MB IO on FC LUN(s) on these servers discovered through Emulex LPe 16000 HBAs. Changed ‘options lpfc lpfc_sg_seg_cn =>1024’ and ‘max_secors_kb =>4MB’ params towards attaining supersize IO ( 4MB block size) , however there are no improvements in getting more than 4K block size IO. There was no impact from these changes. Looking for a help to tune the system to attain supersize IO operation (4MB writes) Regards, Sk

users still member of LDAP group after being removed from group 5 days ago

Hi, Last Thursday I removed users from an LDAP group and today the Linux command groups still shows those users as member of this group. I double checked in the LDAP to make sure the users are really removed and also not part of the local Linux group users on both the server hosting the LDAP service and the Linux clients. Could this be related to a cache somewhere? If not cache related what could be the problem? Thanks in advance for your help, Bernard

Centos 7 Samba - all shares read only

I few weeks back my server started having a problem where all shares are now readonly. AFAIK nothing has changed except a 'yum update' which was probably around the same time. Everyone still has the shares on their Win7 PC's and can see the contents. However, if they try to open a file it opens read only. If the try to create a new file (e.g. right click -> New -> Text Document) it says that they don't have permission. I am not seeing anything meaningful in the log files. Can anyone give me a clue how to fix this, or at least how to collect getting debug info? SELinux has been disabled to eliminate that. Squirrelmail/PHP issue

Been using Centos and Squirrelmail since early in Centos 6 cycle. IIRC, I used to be able to attach more than 4 pictures to an email. Now I can't, four seems to be the limit. Picture file size doesn't seem to matter, they can be 50k or 5 meg each. I upped the limits in php.ini for the following parameters to see if this would have any bearing on the issue: post_max_size = 20M upload_max_filesize = 15M The way I see this is that I should be able to attach [more than] four pics of say, size 100K, to an email. I can't. Within Squirrelmail I go to 'Compose', put in a recipient, subject title, and in the body of text lets just say I add "test case" (as an example). Then I go to 'browse', select a [pic] file, click 'add' (which attaches the pic to the email), and repeat this for a total of four files. When I try to attach the fifth pic, the 'email' frame goes blank, nothing shown. To recover the text I can select 'Compose' again and squirrelamil will state I have an email in 'draft' and do I want to open it. If I click 'ok' I get my email back minus all attached pics. Cycle repeats itself if I try to attach pic #5. I've googled the web looking to see if others have had this issue, and a buddy helped me a bit, but nothing definite shown to resolve. I've got to figure its a PHP issue. I'm currently patched to Centos 6.9. Any help appreciated as to what to look for... J
