NFS issue, C7

Actually, with C6, too. We've been fighting a problem with a server with a RAID appliance that's having issues. It's also serving /home/* and project directories for one team. What happens is when the issues happen, NFS on the other servers they use, of course, gags with timeouts. Now, my question is this: if we go to reboot one of the other servers where one or more home directories is being exported to, and is mounted by autofs, it hangs, and will *not* reboot, because it can't let go of the NFS-mounted directory, with the result that we have to physically go into the room and power cycle the box. Is there any way to configure NFS such that if a system is going down, NFS will wait a few minutes while it retries, then time out and let it reboot? mark

qemu-system-x86_64 does not support fw_cfg option

Hi I am trying to run CoreOS (Container Linux) as a guest OS using KVM/QEMU. One of their suggestions is to pass config info into the VM using the "fw_cfg" option . When I try this I get the error "-fw_cfg invalid option". If I run the vm with the help option it does not list the fw_cfg option. However, according to the qemu documentation, see here <https://qemu.weilnetz.de/doc/qemu-doc.html#Debug_002fExpert-options>, they support this option. The command used to run the vm is: /usr/bin/qemu-system-x86_64 -name CL-IGN-1 -m 1024 \ -net nic,vlan=0,model=virtio \ -net user,vlan=0,hostfwd=tcp::2222-:22,hostname=CL-IGN-1 \ -drive if=virtio,file=./coreos_production_qemu_image.img \ -fw_cfg name=opt/com.coreos/config,file=./CL-IGN-1.ignconfig qemu-system-x86_64: -fw_cfg: invalid option I also tried using /usr/libexec/qemu-kvm but got the same error. I am running:: CentOS Linux release 7.3.1611 (Core) qemu-system-x86-2.0.0-1.el7.6.x86_64 qemu-kvm-1.5.3-126.el7.x86_64 Thanks.

dbus-daemon and CentOS6

We are seeing high load developing over time on some machines that have dozens of user sessions. One common characteristic is that dbus-daemon uses near 100% cpu. Red Hat seems to be aware of the problem, but the solutions are available to subscribers only. https://access.redhat.com/solutions/110403 https://access.redhat.com/solutions/363554 Does anyone have access and can summarize here? Copying CentOS AMIs for EBS encryption

Hi, I am trying to copy the latest CentOS image to my own AWS account so that I can enable EBS volume encryption. It currently looks like the option when sharing the image is not enabled to allow direct copying of the snapshots, and I am wondering if this could be looked at? I can start an instance with this AMI, then create a new snapshot for the purpose of enabling EBS volume encryption, but I want to keep the image as clean as possible, and am worried if I run the image then some scripts will get ran that will customise the image with keys etc. If there is a better way to do this then happy to discuss. Centos 7 upgrade squid problem.

hi all, I have a question about upgrade squid 3.5.26. I was install squid 3.5.20 via yum in Centos 7, but now I need to upgrade squid 3.5.26 to test about the bug in delay_pools. But the least version of squid in Centos7 is 3.5.20. my question ~ Can I just download the package "squid-3.5.26.tar.gz" and config it ? but I'm flesh in linux I don't know how to ./configure. Slow Samba

Hello friends, I have a Gigabit network with few Windows and Centos 7 machines and I noticed that when copying files via Samba from: Windows to Windows I can copy files with speed of +- 120 MBps (I think this is the max speed gigabit network can provide) But when copying files from: Centos to Centos I get only speeds of about 40 MBps Windows to Centos 40 MBps Centos to Windows 40 MBps I tried to add these lines: use sendfile = yes socket options = TCP_NODELAY IPTOS_LOWDELAY to smb.conf file but got no speed improvement, (so I think they dont need to be there, do they?) Please do you know what could be the issue? Is there some way to get full speed the network can provide? P.S.: I had the same issue on 100 mbps network - Win to Win could copy 12 MBps but Centos only 4 MBps. Thank you very much for your time Have a nice day

vfstp and renaiming of files with ftp client

Hi, I have a vsftp server and two users for up and download. If user Alice uploads a file, the owner is set to Alice as expected "-rw-r--r-- alice ftpuploadgroup" Now Bob can login to the same folder and is able to rename the uploaded file. Bob can also rename an uploaded folder, but can't rename a file in that folder .... I'm confused, as I don't get why this is possible at all. Some vsftp magic? :) Can someone explain that to me? OpenVAS: confusion with 3rd party repos

Hi, I'm currently experimenting with OpenVAS, the vulnerability scanner which was forked from Nessus. I'm reading through various HOWTOs and tutorials, and it seems like I'm stuck very early in my fiddling process. All the CentOS-based tutorials I've found mention a third-party Atomic repo, and here's how the installation usually begins. # wget -q -O - http://www.atomicorp.com/installers/atomic | sh Yet on my servers I have EPEL configured for my third-party needs, and OpenVAS already seems available through EPEL. # yum search openvas ... openvas-cli.x86_64 openvas-gsa.x86_64 openvas-libraries.x86_64 openvas-libraries-devel.x86_64 openvas-libraries-doc.x86_64 openvas-manager.x86_64 openvas-scanner.x86_64 The documentation I've found only mentions a single 'openvas' package, and I'm supposed to run 'openvas-setup' after installation. Now I tried to install the core packages found above, but there's no 'openvas-setup'. Any suggestions?
