virt-manager change to bridged networking on CentOS 7.4

Hi All, I have virt-manager running just fine currently using NAT. I want to "change" it to bridged network. The GUI is not letting me change anything on the network section. How do I change it to be bridged ? Thanks, Jerry

failure to start httpd after today update

Hello, I ran today update of my CentOS 6.9 running on Dell T105 (AMD OPTERON) and httpd failed to start. Any idea what could cause that? I never had a problem after CentOS 6.x update. Web server runs since March 2017. I do updates usually once in a week. Thank you Mikhail Utin

Document/collaboration server advise needed

Dear All, Three groups of scientists need to write documents collaboratively. They are going to use MS PowerPoint, Word, also store PDF files. They want to be able to add external people from other groups they collaborate with and give them access to some areas or "projects". In other words, they want some collaborative work environment, mostly to work on documents. In the past scientists were using TeX, and one of version control systems (CVS, subversion,...). And all was great, as TeX files (pretty much like programs software developers write) are ASCII text files, and diff of two version is rather small... Unlike the past scientists I work for plan to use MS PowerPoint, Word, also store PDF files. All these are effectively binary files for version control systems, then versions will not be stored as a small diff, but each version ends up being the whole document. One obvious solution may be: just buy office365.com service, or set up MS server on our own machine. And these are the two things I am trying to avoid. Could someone recommend open source software? Some collaborative suite focused mostly on working on documents, with web based interface. I run owncloud server for my Department, and one in general can use that, but I hope to find something more focused towards collaborative work. Thanks a lot for your advises and pointers. repodata out of sync for centos6-updates

Hi, I wanted to update the bind package on our centos-6 servers, and the package is there for the mirrors I've checked, but the repodata dates back from January 18. May be I'm too fast and the repodata update comes later. If so how long can it take? Cheers, Christian.

How to upgrade CentOS 6.9 KVM host to 7.4.1708 and not re-install guests

I have a Windows 7 KVM guest running on a Centos 6.9 KVM host. I would like to upgrade the host system to CentOS 7.4.1708 without having to re-install from scratch the KVM guest. What procedure should I use to move the guest off the host system, upgrade the CentOS version and then move the KVM Guest back to the host? An rpm specfile quesstion

I've built an rpm package to distribute an executable and datafiles, but I need to link to the executable, with the symlink with a different name, into /usr/sbin/ If I make the symlink in the %post, it doesn't show if you do rpm -ql, and /usr/sbin/link gives "not owned by any package". If I make <build path>/usr/bin during the %install, trying to install it gives me /usr/sbin's already owned by the filesystem package. What's the correct way to do this, so it shows with rpm -ql? mark

Minor problem with yum-cron

Hello everyone - I have a minor problem with yum-cron. It has been doing this for a long time, and finally today I got annoyed enough to want to fix it. The problem: When yum-cron sends an email notification, the message is sent without a date field. Therefore it shows up in my inbox as "date: Unknown" and sorts to the opposite end of the list. The system is CentOS 7.4.1708 with all patches. Yum-cron is version 3.4.3-154. The email headers look like this: Return-Path: <root(a)campercaver.net> X-Original-To: bgee(a)campercaver.net Delivered-To: bgee(a)campercaver.net Received: from boinc01.billgee.local (unknown [192.168.17.131]) by campercaver.net (Postfix) with ESMTP id 94EA62C0C70 for <bgee(a)campercaver.net>; Thu, 18 Jan 2018 03:44:26 -0600 (CST) Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Subject: Yum: Updates installed on boinc01.billgee.local From: root(a)campercaver.net To: bgee(a)campercaver.net X-Spambayes-Classification: ham; 0.00 As you can see, there is no "Date:" field. I don't see anything in /etc/yum/yum-cron.conf that might affect this. I also see nothing in /etc/mail.rc,l though in this case it might not be using that file. The system does not have an smtp server on it. Yum-cron.conf specifies another server for smtp. It obviously works since I receive emails from it. Is this a bug in yum-cron?
