Replacement for Pdftk under CentOS 7 ?

Hi, Two weeks ago I migrated all our local school's servers and clients from Slackware 14.1 to CentOS 7. Everything went perfectly, and now I'm busy sanding down some edges. The previous installation sported pdftk and a frontend (can't remember the name) which allowed some basic operations on PDF files such as splitting and concatenation. The school's staff used this application all the time. Unfortunately it's not available under CentOS 7. Can you suggest any replacement for this application? On a side note, it should be something with a point-and-click GUI. OT: hardware: sanitizing a dead SSD?

Anyone have any clues about how to sanitize a dead SSD? We haven't had it yet, but we're sure it's coming. Esp. since I'm a federal contractor, a dead disk gets deGaussed, but what the hell do you do with a SSD?

CentOS 7.5

Hi All - Just checking on "expected" 7.5 release - I'm guessing its very close. On a side note... I played with CR enabled it and did the update, my /etc/redhat-release still says the old 7.4... I was thinking it would say something different for CR. Anyway looking forward to 7.5! Thanks, Jerry

Problem with cr repo.

Network Performance Update

My thanks to all that responded to my posting about measuring network performance. Helpful suggestions are always very much appreciated. The type of testing that we were attempting does not appear to be a major topic of interest on the list but the additional information below may be helpful to some users. Initial reports of an issue with |dd not being recognized was questioned so several more tests were conducted. Testing the transfer to /dev/null was repeated several times with identical results as indicated immediately below. How this message about dd was interpreted as it not being recognized is not clear. What is clear is the Broken pipe indication which we then went on to investigate. All indications are that the destination of the pipe was not accepting the sourced data. With this in mind we conducted several successful transfers as indicated below. It appears that /dev/null is not a legitimate place to send data from an ftp transfer. This was the case even when the original source was a file and not a dd command. One of the suggestions in response to our original posting indicated that "|dd might be changed to |"dd. This was also tried as indicated below. Both forms of the put command that send the data to an actual file (zeros) work and were repeated several times. Using the form |"dd consistently runs slower than using the original put command format: "|dd Bottom Line: Mystery partially solved. What is left is why the /dev/null destination for the data does not work. Just about every other commands we tried routing data to /dev/null work from any user space. NetworkManager dnsmasq plugin

I am trying to get dnsmasq to work through NetworkManager by putting dns=dnsmasq into /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf NetworkManager still works but dnsmasq doesn't start. I get this error in /var/log/messages: could not load plugin 'dnsmasq' from file '/usr/lib64/NetworkManager/libnm-settings-plugin-dnsmasq.so And the referenced file doesn't exist, as stated. So where or how do I get libnm-settings-plugin-dnsmasq.so? get unicode ranges from a TTF ???

Hello list, Is there a command line tool I run on a ttf font and get a list of the Unicode Ranges for that that font that would be compatible with the unicode-range: parameter in a CSS @fontface declaration? I'm guessing something in the python world probably exists... Hopefully something that works in CentOS 7 I need something like that for a FLOSS font server project that doesn't track users. I don't feel a need to split up a font by unicode range, but a lot of fonts are already split by their upstream developers according to language support - e.g. the Noto Fonts, the main font has a lot of glyphs but Hebrew for example is in it's own font file already. I want to be able to get the range information for what the fonts support. Thanks for any tips. My font server project I need it for is at https://github.com/AliceWonderMiscreations/FlossWoff2

HPLIP vs. CentOS

Hi, Our local school has recently acquired an HP PageWide Pro 477 professional printer. According to HP, the printer requires HPLIP 3.16.3 at least. Unfortunately, CentOS is only shipping HPLIP 3.15.9. So I downloaded and installed the hplip/hplipfull package from the HP site. Installing this thing and getting it to work is not exactly a trivial task, as I documented in my blog: https://blog.microlinux.fr/hp-pagewide-pro-centos/ The printer and the scanner worked perfectly for some time. Now all of a sudden scanning won't work anymore, and I have an alert that the HP plugin must be installed. So I launched hp-plugin (as I already did on numerous similar installations before), but unfortunately the plugin installation fails with the following error: Python gobject/dbus may not be installed. A google search shows me that I'm not alone, and that this error has affected users quite regularly over the years. The relevant packages are already installed on my system, so I'm facing a choice. 1. Either use the hplip-* packages provided by CentOS that are too old for our printer. 2. Use the buggy hplipfull package provided by HP. If anyone has an idea how to upgrade HPLIP on CentOS so that it actually works, I'd be grateful.
