Which is better? Microsoft Exchange 2016 or Linux-based SMTP Servers?

Good evening from Singapore, I am torn between deploying Microsoft Exchange 2016 and Linux-based SMTP servers like sendmail, postfix, qmail and exim. Relative ease of installation and configuration is an important consideration factor. Microsoft Exchange 2016, Domain Controller, and Active Directory are relatively easy to install and configure. Linux-based SMTP servers are extremely difficult to install and configure and of course, extremely time-consuming. One of the features of Microsoft Exchange 2016 is that you can create additional folders on your Inbox in the server (server-side). Can Linux-based SMTP servers do that? Does Exchange 2016 offer more user-friendly features or Linux-based SMTP servers? Besides the above considerations, how about security? Traditionally, Linux is far more secure than Windows. Judging by security, Linux-based SMTP servers ought to have a higher percentage of the market share? Finally, I can only use Windows Server 2016 Standard Evaluation Copy FREE for a period of 3 years MAXIMUM. But I can use Linux servers and Mail Transport Agents (MTA) FREE perpetually. Please advise. Finding memory usage

I have a CentOS 7 server that is running out of memory and I can't figure out why. Running "free -h" gives me this: total used free shared buff/cache available Mem: 3.4G 2.4G 123M 5.9M 928M 626M Swap: 1.9G 294M 1.6G The problem is that I can't find 2.4G of usage. If I look at resident memory usage using "top", the top 5 processes are using a total of 390M. The next highest process is using 8M. For simplicity, if I assume the other 168 processes are all using 8M (which is WAY too high), that still only gives a total of 1.7G. The tmpfs filesystems are only using 18M, so that shouldn't be an issue. Yesterday, the available memory was down around 300M when I checked it. After checking some things and stopping all of the major processes, available memory was still low. I gave up and rebooted the machine, which brought available memory back up to 2.8G with everything running. How can I track what is using the memory when the usage doesn't show up in top? -- Bowie

C7, just updated firefox, bugs

I just updated the "critical" firefox update, and it is *seriously* buggy. 1. I killed my old session, and started a new. Many (all?) tabs show *nothing* until I put my cursor in the URL bar and hit <enter> 2. I cannot open a link in an email in thunderbird. I click the link, and after a bit (30 sec? more?) a small windows tells me that firefox is running, but not responding, which it certainly responds when I focus on firefox. mark

In some cases it becomes some kind of "undefined" or at least I'm not able to print it out in a report (in "r1:"). In the configuration file above I marked some lines with "BEGIN/END big shit". Between the BEGIN/END I commented out two lines. If I "run" with that configuration file I see the reports "r1:" and "r4:" but not "r2:" and "r3:". It's not clear to me why I don't see reports "r2:" and "r3:", but I'm interested in the value of $(info.info_list)" in "r1:", I only have "r2:" and "r3:" here to maybe help to localize the problem which is described later. I'm using that slist to collect some system info and then printing out the report and it would NOT be a problem if some system informations were missing but it IS a problem that in some cases the whole slist becomes undefined and in that situation I receive a completly empty report "r1: ". Is decoupling Apache + PHP into separate nodes possible?

<preamble> I have deployed Linux/Apache/PHP (node1) + MySQL (node2) with Security Groups (AWS) or iptables controlling who can connect to the MySQL server. In topology terms -- a 2 Tier architecture. In AWS - one can deploy several such instances behind a ELB. Each LAP instance talks to a MySQL RDS. The LAP instances are either mod_php or PHP-FPM. OS -- CentOS, Ubuntu. Debian </preamble> For one of my client's end user customer, their InfoSec team is asking if Apache and the PHP application can run in separate nodes (3 Tier arch). To the best of my knowledge Apache + PHP (mod_php) have to be in the same node. With PHP-FPM it is conceivable to have Apache talk to PHP-FPM running on a separate node (see diagram https://goo.gl/xTfbjg). But I have not done it myself and I am not sure if it is feasible. If it is feasible then what's the best practice to distribute the *.html *.css and *.php files between the Apache + the PHP-FPM nodes and how to achieve load balance between Apache and PHP-FPM nodes. I have searched but not found any reference setups. Would appreciate suggestions / references from anyone who has done a 3 Tier Apache + PHP + MySQL deployment in production. Try sending output from: postfix status mailq Try telnetting to your smtp server and sending a message like this from the local system: substitute a valid user/domain on the mail from line and a valid email address in your domain on the rcpt to line. Do this, logged onto the mailserver. telnet localhost 25 helo mydomain.com (substitute a valid domain here) mail from: <someuser(a)validdomain.com> rcpt to: <youremailaddress(a)yourdomain.com> data From: someuser(a)validdomain.com to: youremailaddress(a)yourdomain.com subject: test This is a test mesage . note: blank line between mail headers and body end data with line containing only '.'. Then check your maillog and send the output to the list. SCLO: Clang 5 package

Hi, a new version of llvm toolset was released on RHEL including clang 5 several months ago: https://developers.redhat.com/blog/2018/05/03/announcing-ga-for-latest-soft… devtoolset 7.1 (gcc 7.3) was announced around the same time and has been in CentOS sclo repo for some time now, but still no sign of clang 5. Is this on anyone's to do list? llvm toolset contains a really convenient version of clang / clang-format, which I believe many developers are using daily for various tools. Clang 5 is required for C++17 support, so a prompt update would be highly appreciated. Sorry if this is not the correct mailing list. Best regards Tim

Mail has quit working

Hello, Mail has come to an abrupt stop. Running C7, postfix and dovecot. Using Roundcube as the client. Mail stopped working Saturday and I cannot figure was has happened. I have not touched this server except to upgrade packages. I believe Roundcube was updated maybe a week ago but know I was getting mail since then. Crond is no longer send mail. I checked /var/spool/mail as well as /Maildir in home directories. Zero byte files. Checked all logs and the only thing I could find was in /var/log/maillog : warning hostname localhost does not resolve to address 127.0.0.1 I corrected that by changing inet_interfaces to localhost from all in postfix.cf When I try to log in with Roundcube, it just times out. I'm stuck! TIA for any suggestions!!
