KVM hypervisor displaying "vcpu0, guest rIP: 0xffffffff8225bc98 disabled perfctr wrmsr: 0xc2 data 0xfff"

Hi all, I have installed a CentOS-8 server to accomplish some tests using kvm guests … All these guests are centos8 also. When these guests starts, I always see errors like: [ 589.687915] kvm [2133]: vcpu0, guest rIP: 0xffffffff81a5bc98 disabled perfctr wrmsr: 0xc2 data 0xffff [ 596.210773] kvm [2201]: vcpu0, guest rIP: 0xffffffffb885bc98 disabled perfctr wrmsr: 0xc2 data 0xffff Is this a bug? I am not using virt-manager to create guests configuration … Any idea? Kernel release is: 4.18.0-80.11.2 -- Regards, C. L. Martinez

Custom LiveCD images with CentOS8

Is it at this moment possible to build custom LiveCD images? Are they all necessary tools available in CentOS8? I have never done this and wonder if it is still possible for C8. C7 stuff seems to be here: https://github.com/CentOS/sig-core-livemedia Not quite sure if Fedora howtos can be applied here. Any hints? Thanks, Leon

CentOS 8 Libvirt /qemu

Hello, can any install more then one KVM Client with UEFI ?? On my system it is not possible; I have total crash on the system, when I install a client with UEFI after Install one UEFI System, it is only possible to install a KVM client without UEFI this is working?? I found so match broken things, so I mean the best situation is to go back to 7.7 :-(. CentOS 8 Docker container is missing dnf-plugin-ovl

Hi everyone, I've been running some tests on Travis CI with CentOS 7 and CentOS 8 based Docker containers and having issues with the CentOS 8 ones. With the centos:8 image, the RPM database eventually gets corrupted due to the default overlay2 storage driver used by Docker. This issue doesn't show with the centos:7 container. It already comes with the "fastestmirror" and "ovl" plugins installed. The "ovl" plugin is a workaround to avoid this corruption. See the bottom of https://docs.docker.com/storage/storagedriver/overlayfs-driver/ for more details. Fedora 29 and 30 already have an equivalent "dnf-plugin-ovl" package ( https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/dnf-plugin-ovl). However, I couldn't find it for RHEL8 or CentOS 8. I can use the "touch" workaround for now. But are there plans to bring this plugin to CentOS 8 and make it part of the CentOS 8 image, just like on CentOS 7? Or is there some other way to achieve the same with dnf? What is /etc/subuid ?

Dear Experts, Could someone enlighten me about the following file: /etc/subuid ? This file appears to be owned by "setup" package. This is CentOS 7 system, and until now these files if existed were never changed. Today I have added user quite routine way, by doing /usr/sbin/groupadd -g 4500 [username] /usr/sbin/useradd -g [username] -u 4500 -c "User Name, email@domain" [username] And the file /etc/subuid changed and user was added into it: [username]:100000:65536 Nothing like that was happening before. This is first time I create account after update done on Oct 3, 2019. I checked several CentOS 7 machines, basically doing this: # grep subuid /usr/sbin/useradd Binary file /usr/sbin/useradd matches And CentOS 7 machines indeed may have that file name in the useradd binary. None of CentOS 6 machines has that. I tried to do FreeBSD-ism: man /etc/subuid came empty, and realized that I'm doing FreeBSD-ism. I tried to do search on the web (did not "google", I use duckduckgo... so I "did search"), and came pretty much empty. Is it just me, or indeed something in CentOS 7 indeed changed? And what is it? Another question on the same note: how do we find out what the file is about and is used for in Linux, apart from searching on the web. (When there are surprises like the one I had today, one does like to know what this particular file is used for). Thanks in advance for your answers. Crashed a CentOS 8 installation.

Hi, Note: Please do this on a test VM. My issue: I took the output of the following command $ yum list installed | xargs -n3 | column -t | tail -n +3 |cut -d' ' -f1 > packages.list from a CentOS 7.7 Installation. and did $ dnf install $(cat packages.list) --setopt=strict=0 on Freshly installed Minimal CentOS 8 VM. When I reboot I get Failed to switch root: Specified switch root path /sysroot does not seem to be an OS tree. os-release file is missing. Hiding a grub menuentry?

Does anyone know if it is possible to 'hide' a grub menuentry with CentOS 7 ? I have a custom menuentry that I don't want to be seen on the grub screen - but it needs to be selectable as the entry to boot via 'grub2-reboot' I've scanned the grub2 documentation - but I can't find anything obvious - so I'm guessing it can't be done - unless someone knows otherwise ?
