systemd: Failed unmounting /var on reboot, should I worry about fs corruption?

Hi all, I have Centos 8 installed on a physical machine (www6) with separate LVM volumes for /, /var, /var/lib/mysql etc. System boot proceeds without a hiccup, in terminal systemctl status says everything is OK and running, journalctl says so as well - systemd mounts everything stated in fstab. However, on reboot systemd echoes problems with filesystem on /var : ...// unmounting all volumes Nov 26 23:51:30 www6 systemd[1]: Unmounting /var... Nov 26 23:51:30 www6 umount[2118]: umount: /var: target is busy. Nov 26 23:51:30 www6 systemd[1]: Stopped target Swap. Nov 26 23:51:30 www6 systemd[1]: Deactivating swap /dev/disk/by-label/lv_swap... Nov 26 23:51:30 www6 systemd[1]: var.mount: Mount process exited, code=exited status=32 Nov 26 23:51:30 www6 systemd[1]: Failed unmounting /var. Then proceeds and reboots the machine. This occurs on every reboot. Did anybody here encounter similar problems on reboot? I found this bug https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/867 which was closed without a definitive solution, the developer says the issue is hard to solve and just cosmetic since /var gets unmounted in the end anyway, which is strange because there is a log line about unmounting just about every other mountpoint and in the end of the journal, there are about 7 log lines about unmounting swap volume, but zilch about /var. If the system is getting down without proper unmount, data corruption can happen. I would feel much better if there were no such errors... Help with dracut install CentOS 8

I am trying to specify a static IP on the new dracut format. I was using this: http://man7.org/linux/man-pages/man7/dracut.cmdline.7.html So my grub entry consists menuentry "Install CentOS 8" { linux /boot/vmlinuz noverifyssl ks=https://something ip=192.168.1.3::192.168.1.1:255.255.255.0::eth0:on:192.168.1.1 biosdevname=0 net.ifnames=0 ksdevice=eth0 inst.sshd sshd=1 initrd /boot/initrd.img } This seems OK to me. But rebooting to start the install for CentOS 8 it just stops and says "system halted". the lines above that have no errors. .3 is the IP I want to use .1 is the GW and the Nameserver in this case. Upgrade Centos 6 (32 Bits) to Centos 7 (32 Bits)

Hi all , I have a very old PC ( Acer2000) 32 Bits. On this machine I am running (Do not laugh) SCO Unix in an antique version : So Centos6 probes with the bootloader on this OS and other OS s. printer frustrations

I've got an old HP LaserJet 1018. It's a winprinter. After I bought a new router (to go inside the Verison one), I plugged it directly into my box (ok, via a hub). I run CentOS 6. Before we went on the trip, I could print, I upgraded my system, and this is the first time I'm trying to print... and no joy. I've tried sending the firmware to it via lp -o raw ... -h :9100, and maybe? it worked, but no printing. I've upgraded to the latest foo2jzs driver and .ppd, and nothing. Any ideas? CUPS since to think it can talk to it.... Yes, the system can see the printer.... mark

My ethernet is not listed in centOS 8 boot.iso

Hi, Yesterday i tried to install centOS 8 on my little router and server, but there's no ethernet listed there. I'm using Compaq pressario V3737TU which come with Marvell PCI-e ethernet 100Mbps. It's an old laptop. Could anyone here help?

yum4 and dnf on CentOS 8

CentOS 8 and libssh2.h

I am trying to find libssh2.h In the past I installed libssh2-devel I have libssh2 installed. I have tried yum install libssh2-devel - nothing found yum provides "*/libssh2.h" - nothing found yum search libssh2.h - nothing found. Thoughts ? Jerry

Hello, Please can anyone help with the problem below when trying to install CentOS 7.6 on an IBM x3500 M3 from DVD or USB. CentOS 7.5 installs perfectly with no errors. CentOS 7.6 tries to boot, an error is output briefly and the workstation powers down. CentOS 7.7 displays the error briefly then continues the install with no further errors.
