It seems that firefox 68.x, as distributed with CentOS6 updates, no longer allows opening jnlp files with javaws The "Choose Helper Application" window popping up after selecting "Open with/Other" has a predefined list of applications that cannot be customised. I'm sure it must be a configuration issue as this works fine with the same browser on other distributions, but what to look for? # alternatives --display javaws javaws - status is auto. link currently points to /usr/java/latest/jre/bin/javaws /usr/java/latest/jre/bin/javaws - priority 200000 Current `best' version is /usr/java/latest/jre/bin/javaws. # ll -L /etc/alternatives/javaws -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 140296 Dec 15 2018 /etc/alternatives/javaws #

printer only prints one page, if anything

I've got a Brother HL-L2360D series printer connected to Centos 7. CUPS lists it as Generic PCL6/PCL Printer - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.9 . When I tell it to print a pdf file, it prints at most the first page. After powering the thing off and turning it on again, it printed page 3 of pages 3-6 . On trying it again, the thing claimed it was receiving data and printed page 3 of pages 3-6 again. I've tried to delete the printer so I could add it again, but CUPS won't let me. CUPS quit asking for a password, it just says Forbidden. How do I print the pdf file? How do I keep this from happening again? This is not the first time I've had to do a deep dive into CUPS or something to get printing done. I gave up on HP printers because I had to buy new cartridges practically every time I wanted to print. Only being able to print the first page, if anything, is not much of an improvement. frr packages for CentOS 8

Hello, I'm not seeing free range routing (frr) packages for CentOS 8. The RHEL8 docs say frr is the replacement for quagga. https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/8/ht… What am i missing? Cheers, Dan

Centos 8 server rebooting...

Can someone provide some guidance with my server, I have a fairly new centos 8 server, pretty much just a KVM host but I have noticed that its dumping and rebooting at various times. Journalctl does not go back past the reboot so I am unable to catch what may be causing it, it appears to be KVM from /var/log/messages and it appears I should have a kernel dump file but I am unable to find it. I had these same kvm images running on the centos 7 server for over a year at a time, not sure what is making things less stable. Any help would be appreciated, thanks. cli Checking disk i/o

I just built a CentOS7 system on a Zotac NANO PC. I used a 320GB 2.5" HD I had sitting around and installed with Standard Partitions on XFS. The drive is spinning, nonstop. How can I monitor if there is actually disk i/o to warrant this constant spinning. So noatime for all partitions work with XFS? I did some browsing and the claim is XFS uses realtime which is better? than noatime? Perhaps it is just occasional writes to messages (at least 1 a minute) that determines to keep on spinning. But it is annoying.

Hi Team I am planning to use mod_evasive to prevent dos attackS . I am using httpd24-httpd-2.4.34-7.el6.x86_64 (httpd software collections) on Centos 6.5 . Do we have mod_evasive rpm wrt to this httpd version ? Thanks and regards AKshar
