Wonky Firefox 68.0.1esr upgrade

I just applied a bunch of updates to my CentOS 7 system yesterday, one of which was a Firefox update to 68.0.1esr. Now when I bring up sites I would log in to -- my bank, credit cards, etc., the Password box is wonky and shakes and doesn't display successive dots for characters I type, nor does it accept what I type. My work around currently is to type the password first, then my userid but ???!!!!! Using either a <tab> to get to the Password box or just a click in the Password box causes the same results. systemctl behaves like it is being piped to less in centos 8?

Comparing the output of systemctl between centos 7 and 8: [root@mail ~]# cat /etc/redhat-release CentOS Linux release 7.7.1908 (Core) [root@mail ~]# systemctl status firewalld ● firewalld.service - firewalld - dynamic firewall daemon Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/firewalld.service; enabled; vendor preset: enabled) Active: active (running) since Fri 2019-10-25 00:24:24 UTC; 1 months 19 days ago Docs: man:firewalld(1) Main PID: 6578 (firewalld) CGroup: /system.slice/firewalld.service └─6578 /usr/bin/python2 -Es /usr/sbin/firewalld --nofork --nopid Warning: Journal has been rotated since unit was started. Log output is incomplete or unavailable. [root@mail ~]# So far so good. Don't know why it is complaining about log being rotated but output looks readable. Now, let's grab a centos8 box: [raub@vmhost2 ~]$ cat /etc/redhat-release CentOS Linux release 8.0.1905 (Core) [raub@vmhost2 ~]$ systemctl status firewalld ● firewalld.service - firewalld - dynamic firewall daemon Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/firewalld.service; enabled; vendor p> Active: active (running) since Tue 2019-12-10 20:10:20 EST; 2 days ago Docs: man:firewalld(1) Main PID: 1031 (firewalld) Tasks: 2 (limit: 26213) Memory: 33.5M CGroup: /system.slice/firewalld.service └─1031 /usr/libexec/platform-python -s /usr/sbin/firewalld --nofork > lines 1-9/9 (END) As you can see, it is trimming the output at the end of my terminal window, which I do not care; there are options (-i I think) to make it wrap around, but the line lines 1-9/9 (END) is what is annoying me. That seems to be what I would expect if I piped it to less. I checked a fedora 31 and another centos 8 box and am seeing the same behaviour. Am I missing something?

DebugInfo repo broken on purpose

This line in /etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Debuginfo.repo baseurl=http://debuginfo.centos.org/$releasever/$basearch/ …causes commands like “yum search --enablerepo=* foo” to fail with the obscure error Error: Failed to synchronize cache for repo 'base-debuginfo' Apparently this is because the debug info RPMs aren’t hosted there any more, per the page at the top of the site. However, when I edit that file to point to the Facebook mirror linked from the top of the debuginfo.centos.org site, I get the same error, even after assorted remediations: dnf makecache, dnf update, etc. Any ideas on how to fix it, hopefully in a way that lands in a CentOS 8.next, so it doesn’t have to be fixed manually? And in the meantime, is there a short syntax for “search all repos other than the debuginfo ones”? I could list every repo in a comma-separated list, but ugh.

dlopen RTD_LAZY and RTLD_GLOBAL

All, I use a code which has a python (I use python36) wrapper loading shared libraries. The code worked fine in RHEL 7 but as I was testing it on Centos 8, python cannot import the shared library (the import is done via dlopen with flags set as > sys.setdlopenflags(os.RTLD_LAZY | os.RTLD_GLOBAL) python then does a bunch of imports and most results in a shared library with indefined symbols. Somthing like: > from .w3dpy import * > ImportError: > /usr/local/lib64/python3.6/site-packages/warp/w3dpy.cpython-36m-x86_64-linux-gnu.so: undefined symbol: multigridxyf2_ The codes works fine on Scientific Linux 7 but had the same problem as above on fedora 31. I suspect something changed in the way dlopen is handled on newer linux version but cannot figure out how the code should be modified... Thank you for any help. All the best, -- Philippe.

CentOS 7 Plus Kernel Update Missing?

Along with the recent kernel update (3.10.0-1062.9.1.el7), the CentOS 7 plus kernel was likewise updated. The plus kernel though hasn't shown up in the mirrors yet, while the plain kernel has. Could someone please push the release button for the plus kernel? What I do see in the various random mirrors I've manually checked is the previous plus kernel (kernel-plus-3.10.0-1062.7.1.el7.centos.plus.rpm) shows a release date of 12-6 instead of 12-3 it had a few days ago. [Infra] - Planned outage/migration : CentOS forums

Due to a hardware/DC relocate operation, we'll have to move the existing CentOS forums instance (hosted on https://www.centos.org/forums) to a new node. Migration is scheduled for """"Monday December 16th, 8:00 am UTC time"""". You can convert to local time with $(date -d '2019-12-16 8:00 UTC') The expected "downtime" is estimated to ~20 minutes , time needed to : - freeze forums instance - backup instance data (DB + files) - import data to new host and validate - enable the httpd redirection to the new host Worth knowing that during the migration process, the forums instance will not be available. CentOS-8: firewalld not starting

need info for X11 keybindings for CentOS7

Hello all-- It seems using ctrl-alt-F1 to exit from GUI back to MY OWN SESSION'S command line does not work for me. It does nothing. Is this something that needs to be explicitly enabled? I start GUI using "startx". Also, any info on what to use to get BACK to my X11 session. Discussions seem confusing on this point. centos8 :: firewalld active but tables empty

Hi!
