I'am running into this https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1206101 while trying to handcraft a kickstart file for CentOS7. Does anybody knowns a workaround? -- LF

weird RPM dependency error; '/bin/sh' needed, but is provided

First off, I have to admit that I'm uncertain if this is the appropriate forum; I'd be happy for suggestions about where else to look. I'm doing this work on a stock install of CentOS-7-x86_64-Minimal-1810.iso, with no updates. I'm trying to create an RPM database from a custom set of RPMs. One RPM ('openldap-ltb' from the LDAP Tool Box project (ltb-project.org) has a dependency on '/bin/sh'. The bash RPM is demonstratedly present, yet the the 'rpm' utility thinks this dependency is not met. I'm open to any advice as to how to progress. It pretty easy to demonstrate what's going wrong, rather than trying to describe it. Straightforward to reproduce: Here, I collect the misc bits from the net: $ wget --quiet http://mirrors.mit.edu/centos/7/isos/x86_64/CentOS-7-x86_64-Minimal-1810.iso $ wget --quiet http://mirrors.mit.edu/centos/7/os/x86_64/Packages/libtool-ltdl-2.4.2-22.el… $ wget --quiet https://ltb-project.org/archives/berkeleydb-ltb-4.6.21.NC-4.el7.patch4.x86_… $ wget --quiet https://ltb-project.org/archives/openldap-ltb-2.4.47-1.el7.x86_64.rpm Now, I try to make an RPM database of these packages. The last step fails with an unmet dependency: $ sudo mount ~/CentOS-7-x86_64-Minimal-1810.iso -r -t iso9660 -o loop /mnt $ mkdir -p ~/local_rpm_db $ rpm --initdb --dbpath ~/local_rpm_db $ rpm --justdb --ignoresize --dbpath ~/local_rpm_db -Uvh /mnt/Packages/*.rpm *.rpm warning: /mnt/cdrom/Packages/acl-2.2.51-14.el7.x86_64.rpm: Header V3 RSA/SHA256 Signature, key ID f4a80eb5: NOKEY warning: berkeleydb-ltb-4.6.21.NC-4.el7.patch4.x86_64.rpm: Header V4 DSA/SHA1 Signature, key ID 6d45bfc5: NOKEY error: Failed dependencies: /bin/sh is needed by openldap-ltb-2.4.47-1.el7.x86_64 Which is weird, as the 'bash' RPM is clearly part of the set, and 'provides' the needed feature: $ rpm -q -provides -p /mnt/Packages/bash-4.2.46-31.el7.x86_64.rpm | egrep 'sh$' /bin/bash /bin/sh Further, it's not among the list of files in the payload of the RPM: $ rpm -q -l -p /mnt/Packages/bash-4.2.46-31.el7.x86_64.rpm | egrep 'sh$' /usr/bin/bash /usr/bin/sh These tactics did work with the related bits for CentOS 6. HERE document in docker script file

I am trying to use a HERE document in a docker script file to generate a text file but must be doing something wrong since I get a warning message that I did not expect: EOF: line 6: warning: here-document at line 0 delimited by end-of-file (wanted `EOF') This is the sample script I am testing in my docker file: RUN bash -c "$(/bin/echo -e "cat << 'EOF' | tee -a /test.txt \ \n<test> \ \n someting here \ \n something else here \ \n</test>")" \ EOF Can anyone see what is wrong in the above statement? Thanks.

faI2ban detecting and banning but nothing happens

I've followed one of the pages on line specifically for installing fail2ban on Centos 7 and all looks fine. (Also, I don't understand why it's matching against dovecont ewhen the regex is in exim.conf) I've found lots of pages relating to regex errors which this obviously isn't but I can't seem to find pages about why the ban doesn't work. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi I have a small question about NIC driver (e.g. i40e) loading. Who is responsible to load i40e driver? And how does he knows we should load i40e, instead of ixgbe? Thanks.

Hope this does not duplicate to the same place, but I sent the following message to a different input. Here it is: I have tried 4 or 5 times to install Centos 7,* and it seems to install, but it won't boot to KDE or any desktop. It comes up in text mode, and nothing I do will get it into a kde mode. Or any graphic mode, that I know of. I have enabled a root password, and a user password. I am trying to install on a SSD of 250 GB. The installation appears to work, but it boots to black screen with white letters. It appears to accept some BASH commands, but it does not respond to startx or startkde. It appears to respond to su, but that doesn't help. (Or sudo, either, but I'm used to su.) I have tried to clear the SSD completely so there are no partitions on it, not even the Windows 1GB boot partition. (I had that, but Centos didn't work so I eliminated it.) * I downloaded a number of tries and burned each to DVD, (one appeared to be defective) but none of them worked. It would help, perhaps, if the downloads included a verification. I really want an RPM system with kde, and I used PCLOS for years, but the latest version is a great disappointment, and the last upgrade crashed the machine, which is why I, having tried their April release, I am coming to CentOS--or trying to. I don't know what information I can provide, but the bare-bones of the system are this: MOBO: Foxxconn G41MXE/G41MXS-K BIOS: American Megatrends id:0 version 080015, date 10/14/210 CPU: Intel Cor2Duo E8600 @ 3.33GHz Width 64 bits Closck 333MHz Memory 8Gib Display: NVidia GF 116 All of this worked perfectly with PCLOS for many years. I am having this problem on Ubuntu 18.04 -- I manage a batch of desktop machines with some convience desktop launchers, which gnome3 insists are "untrusted". update failure

When I attempted to update a remote server via SSH last night the UPS on my local workstations failed, causing the SSH session to get dropped in the middle of the upgrade process. This morning I am not able to complete the update. When it failed when I tried to run it again thins morning I did the suggested things like "dnf clean all" and "rpm -rebuilddb", and I still get this after it downloads the packages again: Running transaction test The downloaded packages were saved in cache until the next successful transaction. You can remove cached packages by executing 'dnf clean packages'. CentOS 7, KDE, Dolphin and MTP support

Hi, It looks like KDE's file manager Dolphin doesn't support MTP under CentOS 7. When I plug in an MTP device like my Nikon camera or an Android phone, Digikam shows its content OK, but Dolphin seems to ignore it. For now, my custom CentOS 7 + KDE desktop meets about 99 % of my needs. Now I've decided to tackle the remaining 1 %. Yesterday for example, I managed to correct the missing RAR support in the Ark archive manager, so I fetched the SRPM and rebuilt it to add RAR archive support, and it works perfectly now. I'd like to try something similar with Dolphin's MTP support, which seems to have been disabled. According to rpm -qif /usr/bin/dolphin, it's part of the kde-baseapps package. I fetched the SRPM and experimented with it, but apparently, enabling/disabling MTP does not happen here. So my question here: which package in KDE 4 is responsible for MTP support in Dolphin ?
