Is anyone running the Opera browser on Centos 7 or 6? While not available in a yum-repository, it seems to be available as a snap-package. Not familiar with those yet but curious if the browser is worthwhile to run. I have generally found Firefox less useful/compatible than Chromium but would also like alternatives, particularly since Opera defaults to a VPN-connection.

bad install

I tried to install Centos on a partition of a Windows machine, and I screwed up. Thinking that the installation would take a while, I took a short break. When I came back, the install was "done" but it is now asking for a password that I never gave it. I can't get around this. I tried to reinstall from the DVD I downloaded, but it just comes up "password" instead of letting the DVD mount. I tried to reformat the partition (sda6) using gparted, but the section that contains the problem does not reformat, it remains there. The Centos version was downloaded on April 26, and it is called "CentOS-x86-64-DVD-1810.iso." It is a new computer called PowerSpec B741 and there is no manual for it, apparently not anywhere! Suggestions please! Thanx!

Rhel8 guest and window resizing (possible OT)

I have installed a redhat 8 server in a KVM/Qemu VM guest to prepare for CentOS 8. The host is running Ubuntu 18.04. Window resizing does not work at all (it works in ubuntu and windows guests). Is this a problem with incompatible versions of spice or is there something else besides the spice daemon that I should be looking at. Does this work correctly under CentOS 6 & 7 Host? CentOS 6/EPel: Missing EPel package?

The EPel repo has a *nearly* complete collection of QT5 packages. One important one that *seems* to be missing: qmake. There does not seem to be a package containing qmake in the collection of QT5 packages for CentOS 6! So others have commented about the particulars of bash and shell quotes, etc. I wanted to suggest you take a look at ShellCheck [1,2] and BATS [3]. I have been doing syntax, lint, and acceptance testing for Puppet code for about a year...and love it... but I recently came across these and have been working to apply the same principles to my shell script projects. The sheer number of fringe bugs in my script that using shellcheck has lead me to clean up has been amazing. BATS is more complicated, but the principle is that you write tests that can assert that your script is working or not. So I made a project just to play with this stuff, if you want to check it out [4]. I have a simple bash script it will take arguments from a file that has quotes. my file arg.txt would be this -lt "*.txt" my script file would be LS_ARG=`cat arg.txt` ls $LS_ARG it does not run properly: sh -x ./arg.sh ++ cat arg.txt + LS_ARG='-lt "*.txt"' + ls -lt '"*.txt"' ls: cannot access "*.txt": No such file or directory How do I resolve that ? If the quotes are not in my file it all works fine. I think its because it looks like the extra single quotes it puts around the "*.txt" - or - '"*.txt"' - how do I do this ? Hi ! I wonder, that i got a login shell, if i start the gnome-terminal on my Gnome-Desktop, recognizing the sourcing of all files in /etc/profile.d/ .. Can somebody give me an hint, where it's system-wide configured or it's a bug and it isn't configurable ? (it's not configured as login-shell in Preferences and the checkbox ;-) ) For Ubuntu18.04 it's not the default, but the Checkbox for login-shell works there like a charme ... thanks & cheers Martin
