Does some one have experiences with a similar tool like createrepo, to create metadata stuff for appstream directories? and how do they integrate into the UI? I am just curious and starting diving into this ... thanks! -- LF

OT: android phone backup NOT to google cloud question

Dear All, My apologies for OT question. I wonder if someone of Android smartphone owners backs up their device and user/application data NOT to google cloud. I just had to get new smartphone, and discovered that short of rooting device or unlocking bootloader and flashing one of "un-googled" android builds I can not find the way to back up everything. To my storage, NOT TO GOOGLE CLOUD that is. adb lets me back up system and applications (and data on add-on flash card), but not application data stored in internal storage (say, off-line maps downloaded by offline map application). <rant> I knew when buying android ("gogloid") I'm not becoming an owner of the device. I also know that after flashing one of "un-googled" systems (waiving off the warranty on that device) I will not get rid of all google code. There is proprietary chunk of it the android kernel... Plus proprietary drivers ("blobs" is the word android people use if I'm not mistaken). I also have seen google "appliances" on several "big" (say, class B) networks, not registered in DNS, carrying non-routable ("private address space") IP addresses, which are resolved as google by DNS servers provided to DHCP clients inside these networks... So, no, I have no illusion about getting away from almighty big brother. I just want my data backed up to my device, accessible to me and usable for recovery without need of network access, and existence of some third party servers on the network. I know, Apple iDevices are a bit better data wise, and Apple has [quite] a bit better reputation, though these are still Apple devices, not yours ;-) </rant> Any advise, anybody? weird RPM dependency error; '/bin/sh' needed, but is provided

First off, I have to admit that I'm uncertain if this is the appropriate forum; I'd be happy for suggestions about where else to look. I'm doing this work on a stock install of CentOS-7-x86_64-Minimal-1810.iso, with no updates. I'm trying to create an RPM database from a custom set of RPMs. One RPM ('openldap-ltb' from the LDAP Tool Box project (ltb-project.org) has a dependency on '/bin/sh'. The bash RPM is demonstratedly present, yet the the 'rpm' utility thinks this dependency is not met. I'm open to any advice as to how to progress. It pretty easy to demonstrate what's going wrong, rather than trying to describe it. Straightforward to reproduce: Here, I collect the misc bits from the net: $ wget --quiet http://mirrors.mit.edu/centos/7/isos/x86_64/CentOS-7-x86_64-Minimal-1810.iso $ wget --quiet http://mirrors.mit.edu/centos/7/os/x86_64/Packages/libtool-ltdl-2.4.2-22.el… $ wget --quiet https://ltb-project.org/archives/berkeleydb-ltb-4.6.21.NC-4.el7.patch4.x86_… $ wget --quiet https://ltb-project.org/archives/openldap-ltb-2.4.47-1.el7.x86_64.rpm Now, I try to make an RPM database of these packages. The last step fails with an unmet dependency: $ sudo mount ~/CentOS-7-x86_64-Minimal-1810.iso -r -t iso9660 -o loop /mnt $ mkdir -p ~/local_rpm_db $ rpm --initdb --dbpath ~/local_rpm_db $ rpm --justdb --ignoresize --dbpath ~/local_rpm_db -Uvh /mnt/Packages/*.rpm *.rpm warning: /mnt/cdrom/Packages/acl-2.2.51-14.el7.x86_64.rpm: Header V3 RSA/SHA256 Signature, key ID f4a80eb5: NOKEY warning: berkeleydb-ltb-4.6.21.NC-4.el7.patch4.x86_64.rpm: Header V4 DSA/SHA1 Signature, key ID 6d45bfc5: NOKEY error: Failed dependencies: /bin/sh is needed by openldap-ltb-2.4.47-1.el7.x86_64 Which is weird, as the 'bash' RPM is clearly part of the set, and 'provides' the needed feature: $ rpm -q -provides -p /mnt/Packages/bash-4.2.46-31.el7.x86_64.rpm | egrep 'sh$' /bin/bash /bin/sh Further, it's not among the list of files in the payload of the RPM: $ rpm -q -l -p /mnt/Packages/bash-4.2.46-31.el7.x86_64.rpm | egrep 'sh$' /usr/bin/bash /usr/bin/sh These tactics did work with the related bits for CentOS 6. root .bash_profile?

Hi folks. Just wondering how I can implement an automatic .bash_profile for root. I have to load my user .bash_profile every time I get into root, and I would like a better solution. There is no /home/ for root, so I’m a bit confused if this is even allowed. Any insight appreciated. Cheers, Bee

Firefox esr repackage

Hi everyone, I use firefox on centos 7 at work but due to the fairly well know extension signing problem, I cannot use ublock origin. From what I can tell, the latest version of firefox in the updates repository is 60.6.1-1.el7. It looks like Mozilla have just released firefox esr 60.6.2 which should fix the signing issue. (see https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/60.6.2/releasenotes/) Would it be possible for someone to pass this message on to someone who can package this, so that users like me can update?

The following one liner should display root's home directory: grep -w ^root /etc/passwd | cut -d: -f6 Which finds the line beginning with the word root, and returns the sixth entry (the home directory of that entry).
