Memory vs. Display Card

Since memory has become quite cheap lately I decided to move from 2 GB to 6. When I installed the memory every thing was fine until I went to run level 5. At that point the screen turned to garbage and the system froze. Is there a way to fix this so I can use the memory I bought? Do I need a new display card? SSD for Centos SWAP /tmp & /var/ partition

Has anyone actually used a SSD in a Centos setup? My little experiment with a s/h WD drive for /tmp and SWAP partitions kicked the bucket on Wednesday, when the poor WD drive caught the click-of-death. It was a s/h drive to start with and lasted about 4 months. But that was without the /var/log/ partition being written to it, as I mounted that back onto /var/log from the original drive. So I had to install another (WD) drive, and repartion it and rebuild my RPM package database, from the backed-up Packages file. That seems to be all OK now. I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to use a new SSD for moving all the disk i/o to, that Linux likes to do so often. Plus putting SWAP onto a decent SSD should speed things up somewhat. Here's a short video of a laptop fitted with a SSD drive booting macOS, compared to a similar laptop booting from the standard HDD. The laptop with the SSD boots and loads some apps in 28 seconds. Issues booting centos7 [dracut is failing to enable centos/root, centos/swap LVs]

Hello, I'm having a strange problem booting a new centos7 installation. Below some background on this. [I have attached the tech details at the bottom of this message] I started a new CentOS7 installation on a VM, so far all good, o/s boots fine. Then I decided to increase VM disk size (initially was 10G) to 13G. Powered off the VM, increased the vhd via the hypervisor, booted from CentOS livecd, selected "recover my centos installation". Then I used the following sequence of commands to make the new vhd size "visible" to the o/s ... - ran fdisk /dev/sda and deleted partition 2. (This is the LVM partition where the o/s is stored. The first partition is /boot [xfs] partition *non lvm*.) - created a new partition with same starting sector as before deleting it, but a different ending sector (to reflect to the increased space). - set partition type to 8e (lvm), saved settings and exit. - ran pvresize and lvresize to make new space visible to the o/s.All good, I can see the space increase on 'lvdisplay centos/root'. - ran 'mount /dev/mapper/centos-root /mnt/root' to temporarily mount the o/s partition. - ran 'xfs_growfs /mnt/root' to resize the o/s fs to the new size. It was successful and I could actually chroot to the o/s and verify new disk size. - rebooted and tried to boot from hdd this time. Grub menu shows up and loads default kernel (3.10.0-862.9.1.el7.x86_64). - after initial kernel boot up process, booting continues to initrd and then it's where the problem starts... - looks like dracut has issues locating/enabling /dev/mapper/centos-root (lv) and as a result it cannot boot to the 'real' root fs (/). - while in dracut shell, I execute the following command sequence: 1. lvm lvchange -ay /dev/centos/root 2. lvm lvchange -ay /dev/centos/swap 3. ln -s /dev/mapper/centos-root /dev/root 4. exit ...and the o/s boots fine...so looks like the pv,vg,lv is detected properly while in initrd, but somehow dracut has difficulties enabling the root,swap LVs ? - While in o/s, I rebuild initrd by using: 'dracut -f -v -a lvm' Note, I have to use '-a lvm' as for some reason, if don't, the lvm utils (lvm,lvm_scan) are not being included to the initrd, not sure why this happens. After rebooting, same thing happens, I have to manually boot the system via dracut shell. I'm a bit stuck at this point, any clues what I'm doing wrong in here ? CentOS 7.6 1810 vs. VirtualBox : bug with keyboard layout selection

Hi, I'm currently working on my next Linux book, which will be an elementary course about CentOS administration. I'm using VirtualBox for all the installer screenshots. Since CentOS has recently been upgraded to version 7.6, I thought I might as well base all book references on this version. So I downloaded the 7.6 1810 minimal ISO and started a fresh installation in VirtualBox. I'm using a Swiss French keyboard layout (ch-fr or fr_CH-latin1), so one of the first things I do in the installer is replace the default French AZERTY keyboard (since I use the french language) by a swiss french QWERTZ layout. Now when I reach this dialog in the installer and try do define my new layout, the slider in the selection window doesn't appear, and clicking on any of the first layouts doesn't do anything, so I'm basically stuck there. I'm running OpenSUSE Leap 15.0 KDE on my workstation, so I tried the same thing with the previous CentOS 7.5 1804 minimal ISO, and the keyboard selection dialog works perfectly. So my intuition would tell me that there's a nasty bug in the CentOS 7.6 installer. Maybe it went unnoticed, since most folks stick to the default keyboard layout selected in their language. Any suggestions ? CentOS 7 as a Fibre Channel SAN Target

For quite some time I’ve been using FreeNAS to provide services as a NAS over ethernet and SAN over Fibre Channel to CentOS 7 servers each using their own export, not sharing the same one. It’s time for me to replace my hardware and I have a new R720XD that I’d like to use in the same capacity but configure CentOS 7 as a Fibre Channel target rather than use FreeNAS any further. I’m doing virtualization and this will allow me to have failover from one node to the other since they’ll all be sharing the same export rather than me simply backing up to the FreeNAS server the way I am now. Does anyone know of any really good current articles that explain how to set up CentOS 7 as the target in such a configuration and also setting up CLVMd so they can all share an export over Fibre Channel from CentOS 7? UEFI and PXE

We have a working PXE setup. I've tried to adapt it to UEFI as per RHEL6 manual, but the client won't boot. Strangely, tcpdump shows that the client tries to download all files via tftp from the dhcp server rather than the tftp server (they are different). next-server is pointing to the tftp server. Any clues?

Centos 7 on Dell Latitude E6500

Hi, I tried to install Centos7 x86_64 minimal 1503-01 from an USB flash drive on my old Dell Latitude E6500 laptop. boots up in text mode, switches text resolution, writes: Started Show Plymouth Boot Screen Reached Target Paths Reached Target Basic System. then hangs for some time, eventually starting dracut emergency shell. log says: multipathd: sdb: spurious uevent, path already in pathvec multipathd: sda: spurious uevent, path already in pathvec interesting: sdb is the internal 240GB kingston SSD drive (existing ntfs bitlocker partition recognized as sdb1) sda is the write protected USB stick, recognised as CDROM drive. 4GB rom intel 45 express chipset mobile intel GMA 4500MHD graphics intel 5100AGN wifi what to try next? any additional infos I can give you? thnx in advance. -- Best regards, Rainer mailto:rfu@oudeis.org

/boot partition too small

First off - let me say I am not an administrator. I need to know if there is an easy way to increase my /boot partition. When I installed CentOS 6 after running 5, it was my oversight not to increase the /boot size. it's too small and I can't do yum updates. if it's not easy to actually increase it, is it safe to take a chunk in my root filesystem (like /new.boot or something) and just mount it as /boot from now on so it uses the space or is that not a good idea? I am sure I could easily copy the rpms/kernel stuff over to it and then unmounts the real /boot and mount this new area as /boot. Can you administrators let me know what you think of all this? NFSv4: Using fsid=0 but *not* exporting the root filesystem

Hi, I would like to use the NFSv4 ability to create a "root" filesystem with fsid=0, so that I don't have to refer to the whole path of the exported filesystem when I mount it. However I do *not* want this root filesystem to be mountable by any host. Is that possible and how? E.g Filesystem: /exports/data1 /exports/data2 /exports/data3 /etc/exports: /exports *(ro,no_subtree_check,fsid=0) /exports/data1 host1(rw) /exports/data2 host1(rw) /exports/data3 host2(rw) host1 and host2 can mount fileserver:/ and access any of the dataN directories at least read-only. That is unwanted. I'd like /exports/data1 and /exports/data2 to be exclusively accessible by host1 and /exports/data3 by host2. But I'd still like to be able to mount e.f. as fileserver:/data1 instead of fileserver:/exports/data1. I've search around a lot and I have found the question several times, but no solution yet. I'm getting: Error: JavaFX runtime components are missing, and are required to run this application for a certain Java app. I'm hoping someone can tell me what bits and pieces I need to install (and maybe where to find them) so I can satisfy that app's appetite without screwing up my system. CentOS 7, skype ceased functioning

Hi, I have been using CentOS 7 on a laptop for a while now (about two years), using skypeforlinux all the time. After today's update, skype ceased to start as a service, as it used to be configured. It fails to start manually, e.g., it does start and is listed as a job, but it doesn't appear visible on the desktop. In the case you know something about it, please let us all know. safety vulnerability in tablet computer

We discovered safety hardware vulnerability in Samsung tablet computer model SM-T580 16GB SN: R52M20EG5WR – dangerous overheat of the tablet lithium-ion battery caused by short circuit to flash LED, which caused more likely by failed LED controlling hardware. We believe that similar design have other mobile computerized devices utilizing flash LED for digital camera. The computer in question has been in use for only three weeks. The temperature outside of the case was approximately 55C in open space. The LED was shining while the computer was power down. The battery discharged within approximately one hour. There is high degree of risk of overheating and potential fire and/or explosion related to the technology of lithium-ion batteries. In particular, if the device is packed inside of a luggage. Two Samsung companies in the US have been informed, but have not really proposed an investigation claiming high quality of the company products. We also informed TSA in three separate inquires (one to FAA), American Airlines and UK based The Registry news portal. However, considering that a lot of people in CentOS community use tablets and smartphones we decided to inform about existing risks caused by specific design of the hardware and may be firmware as well. UEFI boot manager sequence problems HP Envy

Morning all, I have a HP Envy dual boot system (Win8 for serious stuff, i.e. Train Sim and Flight Sim) and Centos 7 for everything else. In the past I've had the occasional problem where an update on the windows side has updated the UEFI boot sequence but using efibootmgr has always fixed it. On Friday I discovered that my HDD was failing so I tried using Clonezilla to move it on to a new SSD of the same size. Unfortunately the clone didn't work, failing half way through my main partition. Thankfully the Windows partitions and boot info cloned across so that side of the system worked. I then wiped all the Linux partitions and did a clean C7 install using the latest ISO, all went well, but when it reboot it went straight into Windows. Using F9 on reboot I chose CentOS Linux and the new system booted. Using efibootmgr I reset the boot sequence and all looked fine (see below). Unfortunately, when I then reboot it reverts to booting Windows. Using F9 to get back into Linux then shows that the boot sequence has reverted. This means that the updated sequence either was not stored properly, or something is resetting it. Legacy support in the BIOS is turned off as it should be, and the boot sequence in the BIOS only has a limited number of options. The sequence in the BIOS is: UEFI Boot Order USB Diskette on Key/USB Hard Drive OS boot Manager (shown in white) Internal CD/DVD ROM Drive USB CD/DVD ROM Drive ! Diskless Centos & Cgroup config changes

Hi, I have OS 'image' that boots via PXE and mounts over NFS. (7.5.1804). I am wanting to explore allowing cgroup usage on this configuration. The root image is exported read-only over NFS and am using statetab & rwtab to allow some persistent parts of the filesystem as well as read/write where needed. I have tried setting /sys in the statetab and this causes the machine to fail, as I have tried /sys in the rwtab. The latter increases the boot time to a point which is not usable. Trying /sys/fs/cgroup in rwtab seems to improve boot time but also causes the machine not to complete booting. I had some more success using cgconfig.conf, I was able to mount the memory cgroup to a local disk (each node has a local temp disk) and manipulate this using cgcreate but the cpu would not mount in the same fashion; the error was: Error: cannot mount cpu to /var/tmp/cgroup/cpu: Device or resource busy So my question; in this particular environment, is how best to utilize cgroup if I want control over both cpu and mem? Is it possible with a read-only root image? Thanks,

Hi all... I just upgraded to laatest kernel in experimental from 4.19.40 , and for my OpenCL app this now fails with this msg: amdgpu_device_initialize: DRM version is 2.50.0 but this driver is only compatible with 3.x.x. Booting back to 4.19.40 makes it work again. I have added a few files from amdgpu-pro package, to make openCL work here in centos7; but something must have changed in this new kernel for amdgpu support. As kernel 4.19.40 works fine, it is not a big issue here - just wanted to report it. Allan.

This often means that the root cause is something else and multilib version checking is just pointing out that there is a problem. Eg.: 1. You have an upgrade for libgpg-error which is missing some dependency that another package requires. Yum is trying to solve this by installing an older version of libgpg-error of the different architecture. If you exclude the bad architecture yum will tell you what the root cause is (which package requires what). You can try redoing the upgrade with --exclude libgpg-error.otherarch ... this should give you an error message showing the root cause of the problem. 2. You have multiple architectures of libgpg-error installed, but yum can only see an upgrade for one of those architectures. If you don't want/need both architectures anymore then you can remove the one with the missing update and everything will work. 3. You have duplicate versions of libgpg-error installed already. You can use "yum check" to get yum show these errors. ...you can also use --setopt=protected_multilib=false to remove this checking, however this is almost never the correct thing to do as something else is very likely to go wrong (often causing much more problems). Protected multilib versions: libgpg-error-1.13-1.el7.centos.x86_64 != libgpg-error-1.12-3.el7.i686 I don't know what it's complaining about, I have several i686 packages installed that yum thinks need the libgpg-error package. here's all the libgpg stuff installed: libgpg-error.i686 1.12-3.el7 @base libgpg-error.x86_64 1.12-3.el7 @anaconda libgpg-error-debuginfo.x86_64 1.12-3.el7 @base-debuginfo libgpg-error-devel.x86_64 1.12-3.el7 @base When I encountered this a couple weeks ago I finally excluded libgpg from the updates, hoping there was some mirror problem that would go away, but apparently not. Firefox addons disabled - temporary fix

The currently available fix for Firefox doesn't work with ESR, but there's a temporary fix that works. At least, it's working for me: Go to about:config and set xpinstall.signatures.required to false. The Firefox folks say that a fix for ESR will be coming at some point, but at least this gets things working again in the short term. Older versions of samba that work with CentOS 7?

Hi. Are there any places I can download older versions of Samba working with CentOS 7? Reason: I have been upgrading all of my servers from 6.X to 7.X. This alone is a massive task for me as I am a one man band. Samba made massive changes not allowing NT style domains anymore in the 4.10 branch. If I can find older samba RPM's for CentOS 7 than I can finish all upgrades of the OS, then later upgrade samba once I am finished when I have more time. Bash completion thrown by quoted option args?

There was a thread about C7 bash completion back in August last year, but it doesn't have answers for this problem. Example: "yum install /path/to/local/package" works fine with tab completion to fill in the path and package bits. However, "yum --debuglevel="1" install ..." just gets stuck and doesn't offer anything. The only option is to type everything out, or type enough to use a wildcard. After more testing, I found that any option argument that is quoted breaks completion. Which in turn makes me think this is not even specific to yum but bash completion in general. Bug? Upstream bug?

system unresponsive

Ok, we used to get this occasionally on cluster nodes, and we just got it on a fileserver (very bad). The system is discovered to be unresponsive: it doesn't ping, and plugging a console in, you can see that it's not dead, but there nothing at all on the screen, nor does it respond to even <ctrl-alt-del>. The only answer is to power cycle it; it comes up fine. Nothing in /var/log/dmesg or /var/log/messages. No abrts I can find. sar tells me it went unredponsive between 18:10 and 10:20 yesterday. Note that there are no further entries in sar, either, for yesterday, after the event, and nothing till I power cycled it. Has anyone else seen this - I can't imagine it's only us - or have any thoughts? C 7, 7.6.1810 mark

Bypassing 'A stop job is running' when rebooting CentOS 7

I'm currently trying to reboot a CentOS 7.5 workstation (to complete an upgrade to 7.6), but it is 'stuck' while shutting down with 'A stop job is running for ...' - the counter initially gave a limit of '1min 30s' - but each time it reaches that limit, it just adds on ~90 seconds to the limit ... Currently the limit is '25min 33s' I'm in no hurry to have this workstation operational, but I guess at some point I will have to power cycle it ... Does anyone know how to bypass this? - or at least stop it increasing the limit each time it is reached? It does seems rather pointless to keep increasing the limit like this ... Opera browser on CentOS

Is anyone running the Opera browser on Centos 7 or 6? While not available in a yum-repository, it seems to be available as a snap-package. Not familiar with those yet but curious if the browser is worthwhile to run. I have generally found Firefox less useful/compatible than Chromium but would also like alternatives, particularly since Opera defaults to a VPN-connection.

I tried to install Centos on a partition of a Windows machine, and I screwed up. Thinking that the installation would take a while, I took a short break. When I came back, the install was "done" but it is now asking for a password that I never gave it. I can't get around this. I tried to reinstall from the DVD I downloaded, but it just comes up "password" instead of letting the DVD mount. I tried to reformat the partition (sda6) using gparted, but the section that contains the problem does not reformat, it remains there. The Centos version was downloaded on April 26, and it is called "CentOS-x86-64-DVD-1810.iso." It is a new computer called PowerSpec B741 and there is no manual for it, apparently not anywhere! Suggestions please! Thanx!

I have installed a redhat 8 server in a KVM/Qemu VM guest to prepare for CentOS 8. The host is running Ubuntu 18.04. Window resizing does not work at all (it works in ubuntu and windows guests). Is this a problem with incompatible versions of spice or is there something else besides the spice daemon that I should be looking at. Does this work correctly under CentOS 6 & 7 Host? The EPel repo has a *nearly* complete collection of QT5 packages. One important one that *seems* to be missing: qmake. There does not seem to be a package containing qmake in the collection of QT5 packages for CentOS 6! So others have commented about the particulars of bash and shell quotes, etc. I wanted to suggest you take a look at ShellCheck [1,2] and BATS [3]. I have been doing syntax, lint, and acceptance testing for Puppet code for about a year...and love it... but I recently came across these and have been working to apply the same principles to my shell script projects. The sheer number of fringe bugs in my script that using shellcheck has lead me to clean up has been amazing. BATS is more complicated, but the principle is that you write tests that can assert that your script is working or not. So I made a project just to play with this stuff, if you want to check it out [4]. I have a simple bash script it will take arguments from a file that has quotes. my file arg.txt would be this -lt "*.txt" my script file would be LS_ARG=`cat arg.txt` ls $LS_ARG it does not run properly: sh -x ./arg.sh ++ cat arg.txt + LS_ARG='-lt "*.txt"' + ls -lt '"*.txt"' ls: cannot access "*.txt": No such file or directory How do I resolve that ? If the quotes are not in my file it all works fine. I think its because it looks like the extra single quotes it puts around the "*.txt" - or - '"*.txt"' - how do I do this ? Hi ! I wonder, that i got a login shell, if i start the gnome-terminal on my Gnome-Desktop, recognizing the sourcing of all files in /etc/profile.d/ .. Can somebody give me an hint, where it's system-wide configured or it's a bug and it isn't configurable ? (it's not configured as login-shell in Preferences and the checkbox ;-) ) For Ubuntu18.04 it's not the default, but the Checkbox for login-shell works there like a charme ... thanks & cheers Martin

OT: android phone backup NOT to google cloud question

Dear All, My apologies for OT question. I wonder if someone of Android smartphone owners backs up their device and user/application data NOT to google cloud. I just had to get new smartphone, and discovered that short of rooting device or unlocking bootloader and flashing one of "un-googled" android builds I can not find the way to back up everything. To my storage, NOT TO GOOGLE CLOUD that is. adb lets me back up system and applications (and data on add-on flash card), but not application data stored in internal storage (say, off-line maps downloaded by offline map application). <rant> I knew when buying android ("gogloid") I'm not becoming an owner of the device. I also know that after flashing one of "un-googled" systems (waiving off the warranty on that device) I will not get rid of all google code. There is proprietary chunk of it the android kernel... Plus proprietary drivers ("blobs" is the word android people use if I'm not mistaken). I also have seen google "appliances" on several "big" (say, class B) networks, not registered in DNS, carrying non-routable ("private address space") IP addresses, which are resolved as google by DNS servers provided to DHCP clients inside these networks... So, no, I have no illusion about getting away from almighty big brother. I just want my data backed up to my device, accessible to me and usable for recovery without need of network access, and existence of some third party servers on the network. I know, Apple iDevices are a bit better data wise, and Apple has [quite] a bit better reputation, though these are still Apple devices, not yours ;-) </rant> Any advise, anybody? I'm trying to create an RPM database from a custom set of RPMs. One RPM ('openldap-ltb' from the LDAP Tool Box project (ltb-project.org) has a dependency on '/bin/sh'. The bash RPM is demonstratedly present, yet the the 'rpm' utility thinks this dependency is not met. I'm open to any advice as to how to progress. It pretty easy to demonstrate what's going wrong, rather than trying to describe it. Firefox esr repackage

Hi everyone, I use firefox on centos 7 at work but due to the fairly well know extension signing problem, I cannot use ublock origin. From what I can tell, the latest version of firefox in the updates repository is 60.6.1-1.el7. It looks like Mozilla have just released firefox esr 60.6.2 which should fix the signing issue. (see https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/60.6.2/releasenotes/) Would it be possible for someone to pass this message on to someone who can package this, so that users like me can update?

Re-install workstation - best repo's

I'm going to rebuild my workstation because maintaining it is now a nightmare after using "recommended" repo's that now conflict with each other. Every time I do a yum update I it fails with conflicts. I'm looking for new recommendations for which repo's to use to have a stable Centos 7 workstation. Much like Centos itself, most of the web pages are very old now. I'm looking for a KDE workstation with mp3 support and video editing. I use simple command line tools such as ffmpeg.

Hi all, I still use the following kickstart partition scheme for C7 installations (via virt-install): Briefly, fixed size for /root and /boot, and the rest is filled up for /srv. The same kickstart (despite that c7 uses vda, f29 uses sda) doesn't work with Fedora29 (EL8). I get a "device is too small for new format" error. youtube-dl No module named 'pkg_resources'

youtube-dl doesn't work for me after a recent update. I do not use it often, so do not know whether the update matters. It gives the error message: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/youtube-dl", line 6, in <module> from pkg_resources import load_entry_point ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'pkg_resources' I've tried reinstalling python-setuptools, installing python34-setuptools and reinstalling youtube-dl . I'm aware there is a bugzilla on it. That and stackoverflow are where I got the ideas above. We're forced to use Siteminder, by CA, who have no clue what they're doing in *nix. No packages, tarballs... Anyway, I'm trying clean up some stuff, and in /*/smwa/webagent/bin (all their binaries, including .so's, are in there, duh... No network on cloned CentOS 7 installation

Hi, I have a few identical Dell Optiplex 7010 machines that I want to use for our school's computer room. I tried to clone these installations (like I did before on CentOS 5 and various versions of Slackware), but this time I ran into a problem. Here's what I did. 1. Install one computer and zero unused hard disk sectors with dd. 2. Send the image to a local FTP server using G4L (Ghost4Linux). 3. Fetch the image on another computer. 4. Boot the new computer in rescue mode and change the hardcoded /etc/hostname to a new value. Let me add that I removed all hardcoded MAC addresses from /etc/sysconfig/ifcfg-em1, which has only very limited information in it. What else could cause the network to choke on a cloned installation? Slow performance with NFSv4.1 on CentOS 7.5 ?

We have a number of identical NFS clients mounting a server using NFSv4.1 - server and clients are all running CentOS 7.5 (kernel 3.10.0-862.14.4.el7.x86_64) However, on some clients, the NFS performance 'degrades' with time ... Running a simple test - a python script that just imports a module (python and its modules are installed on the NFS share) can be an order of magnitude or more slower on some clients. i.e. very little data is transferred, it is the rate of stat'ing and opening files on the NFS server that is 'slow' Running a tcpdump on a 'slow' client shows that the NFS traffic generated on the 'slow' client is again an order of magnitude or more when compared with that generated by a 'fast' client The majority of the extra NFS traffic in the slow case, appears to be a large number of NFS 'TEST_STATEID' calls the client makes - which are not there in the tcpdump on the fast client The issue can be 'fixed' in the short term by rebooting the affected client - and after a reboot, running the same tcpdump shows no TEST_STATEID calls - however after a while (several days), the performance might degrade again I've found a number of reports of excessive TEST_STATEID calls - but most seem to relate to NFSv4 client hangs - which is not happening here - things are working, but much slower than they should be ... Has anyone come across this issue - and have any fixes/workarounds? Thanks James Pearson

Hi, Recently, I encountered a interesting phenomenon that CentOS 6.3 running as normal even if I (my colleague, actually) installed a kernel that build for CentOS 7.x (e.g. kernel-3.10.0-327.el7.x86_64.rpm). I found kernel is mismatch accidentally when I using "uname -r" to check kernel version. So my question is what the harmness we will get if I install a el7 rpm into a el6 system? Thanks.

yum remove iptables problem

Hi Just got a new server replacing another server. I had to use iptables to protect it until I could move a hardware firewall from the old server to the new server. Now I am trying to delete iptables but it wants to delete lots of other dependency packages, e.g. sendmail, cyrus-sasl and even plymouth. Can I just use "force" and "no-dependecies" to get rid of it? Are there other implications I do not know about? thanks Jobst --

HERE document in docker script file

I am trying to use a HERE document in a docker script file to generate a text file but must be doing something wrong since I get a warning message that I did not expect: EOF: line 6: warning: here-document at line 0 delimited by end-of-file (wanted `EOF') This is the sample script I am testing in my docker file: RUN bash -c "$(/bin/echo -e "cat << 'EOF' | tee -a /test.txt \ \n<test> \ \n someting here \ \n something else here \ \n</test>")" \ EOF Can anyone see what is wrong in the above statement? Problem with libkexiv2 ?

Hi, I'm currently installing a dozen CentOS 7 + KDE desktops in our local school. I've already installed a minimal X11 + WindowMaker, and now I want to install KDE on top of that, but the installation fails. There's some broken dependency in the repos. I've narrowed the problem down to the libkexiv2 package. An additional bonus of this transition will be that the meeting bot (centbot) responsible for meeting oversight and logging will now be able to set the channel topic to reflect meeting status. Hello CentOS / RedHat / IBM folks! I am wondering if I can get a communication channel opened with someone who can affect changes win upstream RHEL? I don't have support accounts with RHEL, and use CentOS almost exclusively. I did have a direct email conversation with Mr. Daniel Walsh regarding these problems, but his answer was to create custom policy to allow what's being denied, as there is no risk to doing so by his analysis. That said, I'm wondering if this isn't more of a bug or a need to adjust the selinux policy packages to allow the functionality. The user story is this: Gnome3 user wants to burn a CD/DVD. The system is selinux enforcing, selinux boolean cdrecord_read_content is set to on, and the user is confined to staff_u.
