Hi, what is the point of running tuned as a daemon when dynamic tuning is disabled? What is the point of enabling dynamic tuning, especially when using the supplied profiles like throughput-performance? I haven't customized those by specifying any thresholds, and I don't see any point in doing things like dynamically changing disk schedulers or CPU governors depending on something recognized by tuned. Why is there no measurable difference in power consumption between using the powersave, throughput-performance and virtual-host profiles but a very noticeable difference in performance? The difference in performance appears to depend mainly on which CPU governor is used. For example, you can make a customized profile from throughput-performance that uses the powersave governor, and performance will be very much as if using the powersave profile. Since there is no measurable difference in power consumption, why would I want to use profiles and/or CPU governors that supposedly save power and decrease performance?

SELinux settings for directory shared via NFS and samba?

Hi, what do I need to do to share the same directory with both NFS and samba? SElinux requires 'samba_share_t' for samba and 'nfs_t' for NFS, and AFAIC I can't set both at the same time on a directory.

cryptsetup

On a just-built C 7 box, I've got this: boot, boot_efi, /, swap, and export. Now, the last three are encrypted. For /, I'm trying to add an escrow key. df -h shows me that / is /dev/dm-1. However, when I use cryptsetup luksAddKey /dev/dm-1, it just comes back, without prompting me for a password. What am I missing? mark

Missing PHP Redis package in Software Collections ?

Hi, I'm currently fine-tuning OwnCloud on a CentOS 7 server. To configure transactional locking, I need Redis with the corresponding PHP module. Until recently the server has been running PHP 7.1. I simply installed the 'redis' package as well as 'sclo-php71-php-pecl-redis', started and/or restarted a handful of services, and things worked perfectly. Now I'm upgrading my server to PHP 7.2, and it looks like there's one package missing in the Software collections. See for yourself: $ yum search php | grep sclo | grep redis sclo-php70-php-pecl-redis.x86_64 : ... sclo-php70-php-pecl-redis4.x86_64 : ... sclo-php70-php-phpiredis.x86_64 : ... sclo-php71-php-pecl-redis.x86_64 : ... sclo-php71-php-pecl-redis4.x86_64 : ... sclo-php71-php-phpiredis.x86_64 : ... sclo-php72-php-pecl-redis4.x86_64 : ... sclo-php72-php-phpiredis.x86_64 : ... As you can see, PHP 7.0 and PHP 7.1 both have three Redis-related packages, whereas PHP 7.2 only has two. It looks like I need the sclo-php72-php-pecl-redis package, but it's nowhere to be found. Any suggestions ? Hi, I realized this still uses php 7.2.10, while 7.2.20 was released almost two weeks ago. How are these packages updated? Who does that? Any idea how to get the update in? Regards Rainer

qemu-sparc, not to be confused with qemu-system-sparc

I installed CentOS 7.6 then installed all things QEMU on my machine. I have a SPARC image I need to bringing up in a VM. I've been using *qemu-system-sparc *on a box on which I have Fedora-30 installed. $ qemu-system-sparc -m 256 -hda solaris_v2-qemu_v2.2.0.disk -nographic -bios ./openbios-sparc32 Can I use *qemu-sparc* to bring up my Solaris image: *solaris_v2-qemu_v2.2.0.disk* ? If so, how? It's not apparent and there's almost no info on it. BTW, *qemu-sparc* come with (on CentOS 7.6) when you: $ sudo yum install qemu* *PS> I've tried to install qemu-system-sparc on my CentOS box but ended up in a never-ending whack-a-mole game of dependencies.*

It worked on C 6, but on a C 7 box, I've restarted crond, and cron.allow doesn't have what's in cron.allw.local. What am I missing, folks? mark
