C7.6 Update problem

Hi list, today I tried to update my centos workstation (7.6.1810). My problem concerns kmod-nvidia update. Nvidia driver where installed by elrepo. Reading from this https://elrepo.org/bugs/view.php?id=920&nbn=4 seems that kmod-driver was uploaded for 7.7 release but centos is on 7.6. I'm not using elrepo-testing but yum try to update 7_7 version. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance

Extend DHCP range

I have a simple DHCP range . option routers 192.168.1.1; subnet 192.168.1.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 { range 192.168.1.60 192.168.1.129; range 192.168.1.150 192.168.1.199; } So I want to add a range 192.168.2.1 -> 192.168.2.254 so I did this: subnet 192.168.1.0 netmask 255.255.254.0 { range 192.168.1.60 192.168.1.129; range 192.168.1.150 192.168.1.199; range 192.168.2.1 192.168.2.254; } then tried to restart the dhcpd server... This did not work. How do I get more dhcp addresses ? Thanks, Jerry

kmod-nvidia-430.40-1.el7_6.elrepo.x86_64 fails to install

Everyone, On August 2, my desktop unit updated with kmod-nvidia-430.40-1.el7_6.elrepo.x86_64nnn which broke yum having a multiple of dependencies not being present. I uninstall kmod- dvidia with the hopes that a fresh install would fix the provlem, but it did not. nvidia-detect returns : kmod-nvidia An Intel display controller was also detected I was hoping that this was a repository problem that would become fixed, but I am still now unable to reinstall kmod-nvidia. Has anyone else had this problem, and does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might begin a fix. I would surely like to use my nvidia card again. Thanks for your help!!! Greg Ennis

What is "Release Work"? (CentOS 8)

<https://wiki.centos.org/About/Building_8> Everything in the task list shows "done". Yay! Except the last item, "Release work", which isn't in the Definitions at the end. Does this mean it just needs to be rolled up into an installation ISO? I see activity in Koji but I don't know what it means: <https://koji.mbox.centos.org/koji/index> (I don't intend this to be nagging. I just seek help in reading the runes.)

CentOS7/Cups/Ldap

Hi, I've posted this on cups forum several days ago but did not receive any suggestion. May be Centos Users/admins could give me some advices. I've setup my first cups server to provide printing services to several clients (instead of each CentOS client reaching the printer). It is a dedicated VM running CentOS7. On the web interface all requests belong to Withheld user and it is difficult to know who is printing and who can cancel his request. Is there some documentation/tutorial to instruct cups to use a remote ldap server to identify users? Of course users should not be allowed to log on the cups server with ssh! Thanks Patrick

CentOS 5 file system read only issue

Hello Everyone, We are using CentOS 5 system for certain application. Those are VM guests running in VMware. There is datastore issue occasionally, causing all file systems becoming read only file systems. So application stop working, and opened files cannot be written either. We cannot even ssh login to the system. Typically we had to power cycle the VM. We are trying to add reliability to the application so that if files cannot be written, application should time out. We are trying to use IO::Select to handle timeout. Per investigation, we found below does not work as expected: my $s = IO::Select->new( $fh ); if ( $io->can_write( 10 ) { # print to the file } It seems like can_write returns true even we manually made file system read only in our testing case. Is this something we can accomplish using select system call with timeout value? Thanks in advance, - Xinhuan Zheng

CentOS Amazon Machine Image?

I am totally new to AWS. There was a posting here ~ a year ago making claims about setting up a CentOS image on AWS. I have created a free AWS account and am looking at the available images. None are named CentOS. There is a Redhat Enterprise Linux 8 and Amazon's own Linux and SUSE, Ubuntu, but I don't find CentOS. This is a learning endeavor. I was thinking to first set up a BIND slave for my domain. Then move on to a http image, then work with MariaDB. All to see what I can do with AWS that is familiar to what I do on my own servers. Any pointers greatly appreciated.

CentOS 6 SELinux question: inbound ssh.

OK, after beating my head against the wall for an hour or so, I finally figured out why I could not ssh from a MacMini (running MacOSX 10.11.6) to my Linux Desktop (running CentOS 6), using the amandabackup account with public key authentification. SELinux! It seems the SELinux won't allow this if the target user's "home" directory is does not have a <mumble>_home_t security context. It there some trick/hack to fix this *specifically* for the amandabackup account? Right now the amandabackup $HOME is /var/lib/amanda/ and its security context is system_u:object_r:amanda_var_lib_t:s0 It of course needs to retain this for amanda to work. But I need to do something non-standard: I am not able to build a *working* version of the amanda client on the Mac. Despite what it says on the amanda.org website, Amanda is basically not supported under BSD (MacOSX is basically BSD) and I am not getting help on the Amanda mailing lists. I need to backup this machine, so I am going to punt and resurect a script I was using before I started using Amanda and do an independent backup process, but I want to put the backups on the same disk that amandabackup is using and the disk is set up to be written by amandabackup, so I want to use the amandabackup to write the files, using ssh from the amanda account on the Mac. Is there some hack to get SELinux to cooperate with this scheme?
