Hi all, Anyone know how to specify for fetchmail in .netrc the "folder" to read ? If tried folder XYZ and it says unknown token folder. Man page says that should work. Jerry

YUM (DNF) Possible Confusion Centos 8

Folks In a test Centos 8 installation as a guest of VirtualBox on Windows 10, I want to install ffmpeg, and support for exfat. They're not in the standard distribution (as far as I know), so I issue as root: yum -y --enablerepo rpmfusion-free-updates install ffmpeg fuse-exfat exfat-utils and that works just fine. The ffmpeg functionality works; I haven't tested exfat yet. Good wifi NIC?

Good morning, I'm looking for a good USB Wifi NIC that will work with the kernel modules for a stock CentOS 8.1. I have an ALFA AWUS036ACH NIC but it looks like the drivers need to compiler for the kernel and I'm having trouble with that. So I'd like something that works, but not necessarily high performing, so I can build the drivers for the ALFA NIC. Thanks! Jeff

Hello, I have an Intel NUC7PJYH running CentOS 6.8. This is a NUC with standard USB, 1GbE and 2*HDMI. Installation was no problem providing acpi=off. The problem is that by default the two displays are mirrored and I can’t seem to separate them. I can only see one HDMI port from CentOS. I need to see both HDMI ports discreetly. can't send email from my new centos 8

Hello to all! I apologize in advance, for the following could be too simple, but I can't figure it out. I configured a vps using centos 8, all is working fine but I'm not able to send email from this server. I tried $ telnet smtp.mailtrap.io 25 but it doesn't work yet $ telnet www.google.ca 80 does work and particularly $ telnet smtp.mailtrap.io 2525 does work too. I temporarily disabled the firewall, and selinux, but no luck. Can anyone provide any pointers? Thanks in advance, -- Victor PS: I'm sorry if there were English spelling errors.

Centos 8: change desktop at display manager

In a new install of Centos 8, I installed the xfce4 packages from EPEL. I cannot find a way to choose it. I was guessing this would be like Centos 7. On the display manager, after I put in my user name, there is the little * by the password. When I do that, I see choices with names like Wayland Classic X11 but I don't see XFCE4 session or similar. I am guessing I missed an XFCE4 package from EPEL? pj -- Paul E. CentOS 7.6 1810 vs. VirtualBox : bug with keyboard layout selection

Hi, I'm currently working on my next Linux book, which will be an elementary course about CentOS administration. I'm using VirtualBox for all the installer screenshots. Since CentOS has recently been upgraded to version 7.6, I thought I might as well base all book references on this version. So I downloaded the 7.6 1810 minimal ISO and started a fresh installation in VirtualBox. I'm using a Swiss French keyboard layout (ch-fr or fr_CH-latin1), so one of the first things I do in the installer is replace the default French AZERTY keyboard (since I use the french language) by a swiss french QWERTZ layout. Now when I reach this dialog in the installer and try do define my new layout, the slider in the selection window doesn't appear, and clicking on any of the first layouts doesn't do anything, so I'm basically stuck there. I'm running OpenSUSE Leap 15.0 KDE on my workstation, so I tried the same thing with the previous CentOS 7.5 1804 minimal ISO, and the keyboard selection dialog works perfectly. So my intuition would tell me that there's a nasty bug in the CentOS 7.6 installer. Maybe it went unnoticed, since most folks stick to the default keyboard layout selected in their language. Any suggestions ? CentOS 8 and DELL 7540 Intel AX200 WIFI

I just wanted to follow up to my post from October 2019. I just installed CentOS 8.1 and my WIFI card is now detected and works properly! So I'm a happy camper again, I guess I just had hardware that was too new and CentOS 8.0 didn't have the driver for my WIFI card but CentOS 8.1 *DOES* have it. Good thing, Both RedHat and DELL says it is "completely supported". I was seriously thinking about sending the hardware back to Dell to reorder a configuration that worked, but now I don't have to, there is now driver support for the Intel AX200 WIFI card. I just had to unexpectedly wait a few months. - Thanks - David

ssh failure from CentOS7 to Centos6

Hi, I have a strange problem with a freshly installed Centos7 desktop (most8pc25). I can't ssh to 2 CentOS6 servers, even with firewall disabled on the client and on the server. But I can connect from the server to the client, all in the same VLAN. I can also ssh from this desktop to centos7 servers in the same VLAN or in another VLAN. No idea about this problem. After upgrade to CentOS 8.1 default gateway missing

Hi, Tonight I upgraded two CentOS 8 boxes to CentOS 8.1 (1911). Then after a reboot of the first server the network was unavailable. In IPMI console everything except the network was looking good. Network was unreachable. No errors in NetworkManager. I also restarted NetworkManager, but it did not help. Then I discovered that the default gateway suddenly was missing. Then I rebooted the server one more time, but network was still down. Then both myself and a technician in my datcenter was debugging this (I had to wake him up in the middle of the night, costing me a lot of money), without finding any reason for why the default gateway was missing after reboot. Then we rebooted the server a third time, and all of a sudden the problem was gone and the default gateway was back. Then, after this, I also upgraded my second CentOS 8 server to CentOS 8.1 and did a reboot. And the very same thing happened to this server after reboot! The default gateway was missing after reboot, and network was down. Then I did a extra reboot of this server also, and when it came back up everything was working correct and the default gateway was back. So the first server I needed to reboot two extra times to have the default gateway back and network working. And the second server I needed to reboot only one extra time for the problem to be solved. The two boxes is not VPSs or anything, but bare metal dedicated servers. Also prior to upgrading to CentOS 8.1, these two boxes has been rebooted serveral times previously, without any problems at all. Only after upgrading to CentOS 8.1 this happened on both of them for the first time. I can't believe I am the only one that experience this? My guess is that this is a unknown random intermittent bug in CentOS 8.1 that kicked in. I just hope this does not continue to happen in the future. The hardware is the Broadcom adaptor, using DHCP. No firewall is running in Centos 8 yet. This exact configuration works fine with Centos 7. The symptom I see is that DHCP, Ping, DNS Lookup all work, but no data transfer seems to work. I tried a CURL command to a local web machine (works with Centos 7), and it just hangs. The web server does not see the request. When I switch the network adaptor (in the VM) to NAT, everything works, probably indicating that the selection of the adaptor is the problem. The common factor is the use of a Bridged Network in VirtualBox on Windows 10 updated last week. Based upon prior similar events, I'd guess it's a Windows screw-up. Oh well. David

Folks I know that support for the network adaptors supported by the 'e1000' driver have been removed from the base distribution. However, I have exactly that controller (Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet PCI, not PCIe). Is there a way for me to add support for that on Centos 8.1? Perhaps a driver in an RPM package? Thanks David

Limiting what devices can pair over Bluetooth?

I've managed to get a Wacom Intuos Pro 2 (PTH-660) tablet working over Bluetooth to a CentOS 7 install. Well, I didn't actually have to do much to get it working ... However, we don't normally enable Bluetooth for security reasons, so I need to be able to configure things so Bluetooth can _only_ be used to pair with Wacom tablets As I never used Bluetooth in anger before, I'm struggling to find out where to start looking - does anyone know how to do this or any pointers on where I should start? The image file includes the wrong (outdated) syslinux 6.03 and requires 6.04 per rufus. The fedora burner kept failing but rufus detected the issue and downloaded syslinux 6.04 files. Please update the distro.

CentOS 8 - auto-loading kickstart from USB doesn't work

While updating my base kickstart for CentOS 8.1, I noticed it won't auto-load from a USB device. I'm testing in a VM, but usually add a USB drive for the ks.cfg because my kickstart skips USB drives when picking where to install. If I leave the drive a virtio, or make it a CD, it works. CentOS 8: several packages have unresolved dependencies after "dnf update all "

All, While updating my package using dnf update all I allow dnf to clean some package with unresolved dependencies. I would like to reinstall some of them but got an error message "but none of the providers can be installed" during the install process as dnf is trying to install the dependencies. . This happens for some critical package like boost-openmpi-devel (see below for error). openldap-servers missing from PowerTools in CentOS 8.1

However, if I look into: https://koji.mbox.centos.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=4971 I can see that this package have been build. Do you know in which repo I can find such package? In addition, SRPMs that are a byproduct of the build (and also considered critical in the code and buildsys process) are being published to match every binary RPM we release. Sources will be available from vault.centos.org in their own dedicated directories to match the corresponding binary RPMs. Since there is far less traffic to the CentOS source RPMs compared with the binary RPMs, we are not putting this content on the main mirror network. If users wish to mirror this content they can do so using the reposync command available in the yum-utils package. All CentOS source RPMs are signed with the same key used to sign their binary counterparts. Developers and end users looking at inspecting and contributing patches to the CentOS distro will find the code hosted at git.centos.org far simpler to work against. [semi-OT] C7 Possible bug but I can't determine what tool has the problem

Hi all, I'm writing a script that uses rsync to sync 2 dirs on C7. I noticed a strange behaviour. I have 2 dir: src and dest. In src dir I generate a testfile with "dd if=/dev/zero of=testfile bs=1M count=100" and when I run "du -h testfile" I get the correct result. Then I sync src/ to dest/ using "rsync -avS src/ dest/", all ok but when I run "du -h dest/testfile" I get 0 and if I run "du -b dest/testfile" I get the correct size in bytes. I made several test to see what happens and noticed that removing -S (--sparse) from rsync command problem does not occour. In another test, thinking about a problem on 0ed file, I tried file generation using /dev/urandom then /dev/zero and running rsync -avS the problem is disappeared. This not seems to be a CentOS 7 related problem. I tried also on Fedora 31 and get the same problem.
