GVIM annoyances

I've just upgraded from my old F9 box to C7, which of course means lots of changes. However, the ones are are annoying me most are with VIM. No matter what I do I can't get gvim to open in a reasonable size. I have a dual headed setup (laptop + external) and every time gvim opens it takes up both screens. I've tried a few suggestions including the one below without success. In fact this one causes X to crash when I start gvim. The second problem I have is the selection of the font. My old box had "sans Regular 12" which was a lovely font to work with. However, when I choose the same font on the new box it's hideous. I don't know best how to request this, but basically how can I have my nice old font back? |if has("gui_running") " GUI is running or is about to start. Style Guide for ASCII Text Documents ?

Hi, Can anyone on this list recommend a good style guide for formatting technical documentation (HOWTOs related to CentOS servers) using ASCII text only ? Markdown and/or AsciiDOC are *not* an option, since these documents should be easily readable in a text console. enp0s25 disconnect

I tried to boot a Centos 8.2 install CD, one burned with Centos-8-2-2004-x86_64-boot . In the setup, it persisted in telling me that ethernet thing enp0s25 was disconnected. Nyet. 'Twas working several seconds previous and is working now. This is a showstopper. How do I debug it? Also, whatever else it did, I now have environment variable HOSTNAME=2001-48F8-3004-2CE-1AE9-F1BF-8759-FF4C-dynamic.midco.net . It shows up on my terminal window headers and as part of the prompt on one terminal. dnsmasq centos 7

HI I setup dnsmasq on my computer. I tested with an entry in /etc/hosts for laptop.w530 I tested with "host laptop.w530" and I get unresolved (expected). If I add "nameserver 192.168.1.8" (my computer) to top of /etc/resolv.conf and do "host laptop.w530" I get 192.168.1.105 - so seems to be working. Then I goto another machine, add the "nameserver 192.168.1.8" to /etc/resolv.conf and do the same "host laptop.w530" and it does not resolve. I can "telnet 192.168.1.8 53" to my machine and I get a response. Am I missing something to have "other" machines ask my machine for name resolution ? Thanks, Jerry

ThinkStation with BIOS RAID and disk error messages in gparted

My ThinkStation runs CentOS 7 which I installed on a BIOS RAID 0 setup with two identical 256 Gb SSDs after removing Windows. It runs fine but I just discovered in gparted something that does not seem right: - Launching gparted it complains "invalid argument during seek for red on /dev/md126" and when I click on Ignore I get another error "The backup GPT table is corrupt, but the primary appears OK, so that will be used." I then click on OK whereupon I again see the second error message. I then see "Not all of the space available to /dev/sdb appears to be used, you can fix the GPT to use all of the space (an extra 6832 blocks) or continue with the current setting? " I click on Fix but nothing seems to happen. I am not sure what /dev/md126 is but it is the exact same size as sda and sdb which I believe are the two RAID disks. I also have two other hard disks which seem to be fine, one using XFS, the other ZFS. Does this look familiar to anyone? Given the error messages it seems this is something I ought to fix sooner rather than later. Any idea what I should do? Thanks.

Odd issue happening CentOS 7

So I have two CentOS 7 machines running. if I am on my server and I do "curl http://192.168.1.8" I get data. If I do "host devgeis.LayeredSolutionsInc.com" I get the correct address 192.168.1.8 if I goto another machine with CentOS 7. I do "curl http://192.168.1.8" I get data. I do "host devgeis.LayeredSolutionsInc.com" I get the correct address 192.168.1.8 BUT then I do "curl http://devgeis.LayeredSolutionsinc.com" I get "nothing" BUt then doing the -v with "curl -v http://devgeis.LayeredSolutionsinc.com" * About to connect() to devgeis.LayeredSolutionsinc.com port 80 (#0) * Trying 198.168.1.8... So why when using the name is it not giving me the index.html page ? Should not be a firewall issue - as the actual address worked. Also I tried stopping the firewall - and all the above is the exact same. What is possibly happening here ? Thanks Jerry
