ifconfig not showing virtual IP when using NetworkManager

When using NetworkManager instead of the ifcfg-eth1/eth0 files - I make a nmcli connection and modify "Wired connection 1" +ipv4.addr IP/22 kind of command - it works - which is great. It "adds" the virtual IP. However - when doing ifconfig that "virtual" IP does not show up. When using NetworkManager - to add the virtual IP - how do I get that to show using ifconfig also ? it used to show as eth1:0 Thanks, jerry

Intel Sunrise Point-LP HD Audio doesn't work past kernel 4.18-0-240.22.1

As stated in the subject line, the last Centos kernel where Intel Sunrise Point-LP HD Audio works is version 4.18-0-240.22.1 Booting the computer with any later kernel makes the audio device not show up and the only audio device is "dummy output". -- MELVILLE THEATRE ~ Real D 3D Digital Cinema ~ www.melvilletheatre.com

libxml2 update/packaging issues?

Hello all, last Friday (Oct 15) I encountered a weird issue relating to the libxml2* packages. I have a script which monitors the CentOS mirrors to find new packages. On Friday, these showed up: libxml2-2.9.1-6.el7.5.i686.rpm libxml2-2.9.1-6.el7.5.x86_64.rpm libxml2-devel-2.9.1-6.el7.5.i686.rpm libxml2-devel-2.9.1-6.el7.5.x86_64.rpm libxml2-python-2.9.1-6.el7.5.x86_64.rpm libxml2-static-2.9.1-6.el7.5.i686.rpm libxml2-static-2.9.1-6.el7.5.x86_64.rpm However, looking at Scientific Linux (https://scientificlinux.org/category/sl-errata/slsa-20213810-1/) and Red Hat Errata (https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2021:3810) it seems that CentOS is one release behind (el7.5 from CentOS vs. el7.6 for SL and RHEL). Looking at my systems which have libxml2 packages installed, it gets even weirder: $ rpm -q --queryformat '%{VERSION}-%{RELEASE}\t%{BUILDTIME}\t%{INSTALLTIME}\n' libxml2 2.9.1-6.el7.5 1601484919 1605352337 My system already has this exact release. $ rpm -qi libxml2 Name : libxml2 Version : 2.9.1 Release : 6.el7.5 Architecture: x86_64 Install Date: Sa 14 Nov 2020 12:12:17 CET Signature : RSA/SHA256, Mi 14 Okt 2020 20:55:29 CEST, Key ID 24c6a8a7f4a80eb5 Source RPM : libxml2-2.9.1-6.el7.5.src.rpm Build Date : Mi 30 Sep 2020 18:55:19 CEST The version which is now on the mirrors has a newer build date (Oct 14, 2021): $ rpm -qp --queryformat '%{VERSION}-%{RELEASE}\t%{BUILDTIME}\t%{INSTALLTIME}\n' http://mirror.centos.org/centos/7/updates/x86_64/Packages/libxml2-2.9.1-6.e… 2.9.1-6.el7.5 1634214499 (none) But its latest changelog entry does not match the latest changelog entry in the CentOS Git here: https://git.centos.org/rpms/libxml2/c/7219ebb7c53b80409f3f8fa3433d3ecf35665… So, to make a long story short: I believe there should be a el7.6 version of the libxml2* packages but instead we somehow have a repackaged el7.5 which is not up-to-date. Unexpected /etc/resolv.conf updates on CentOS 7

Hi Does here anyone know exactly when NetworkManager creates or is supposed to create /etc/resolv.conf for a network connection? Is there a way I can control it, or alternatively, is there a good way to debug the functionality? I thought that there would simply be an update whenever a connection was established, and an addresses/network info was received (if using DHCP), and that the information would pretty much be left alone after that. However, I've lately found that a new file gets written every few hours even though there is no connection change (that I can detect), i.e. the same link is up all along. Does anyone have any ideas why that might happen? I thought at first that the updates could be linked to DHCP lease renewal, but on closer inspection, that does not seem to be the case. I don't see anything in the system log related to networking at the points where a new file gets written. I get the above behaviour for my home Wifi net. It seemed to start after I switched to a new router, but that might be coincidental. It's a problem for me because I'm also using "commercial" VPN software (not integrated with NetworkManager) that will create it's own resolv.conf file; it replaces data e.g. from Network Manager when VPN is enabled, and restores it on disable. If NetworkManager "refreshes" the information in the mean time, the DNS config for VPN is lost, and the link doesn't work as expected... This is on a CentOS 7 system with all the latest updates. - Toralf

IPv6 routing preference with multiple default gateways

I've got a primary and backup CentOS 7 gateway, each with two interfaces, connected to my LAN and my fiber gateway. The default gateway (the fiber box) is set explicitly in ifcfg-eno2 with IPV6_DEFAULTGW. Using "ip -6 route show" I see two defaults, the static one and the one advertised from my other CentOS7 box via the internal interface (eno1), both with metric 1024 and preference medium. default via 2001:1890:1837:5b00::1 dev eno2 metric 1024 pref medium default via fe80::100 dev eno1 proto ra metric 1024 expires 293sec hoplimit 64 pref medium How do I set the IPv6 router advertisements on the LAN side to advertise a higher metric or lower preference so there's never ambiguity that the fiber box has precedence? I can't find a setting in the man page for radvd to set the metric or preference for the LAN route that's announced. Additionally, I think I need to announce a route on the WAN interface (eno2) of lower precedence than the static route so the fiber box knows that the two CentOS7 boxes are proxies for my LAN, but the two boxes don't try to route to each other? OT Help: Zoneminder

Sorry for the off topic post but I have run out of options an hoping someone here can help. I have been running Zoneminder for a very long time. Its had its bumps in the road as anything else but generally works well. Currently running Zoneminder 1.36.8 on CentOS 7 . The problem started back in June after an upgrade. When events are played back, the first one plays fine, then it's a blur as in the faster than light drive kicks in. Supposedly, there is supposed to be some kind of pause between event playback that keeps this from happening. I posted this issue on their forum, https://forums.zoneminder.com/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=30955&p=122258#p122258 and on their Github, https://github.com/ZoneMinder/zoneminder/issues/3359 but have had no replies. There is a similar issue on github back in 2015, but the file in question has been changed since that time. I have thought about uninstalling and re-installing the version that was working prior to the upgrade but I don't think its Zoneminder. I think it could be something else causing the problem. The problem occurs when playing back events using Firefox and Edge on a Win10 PC and it does the same playing back events with Firefox on the server itself. TIA

MATE 1.20 test build for CentOS 7 available

Hi everyone, There's been discussions in the past about updating MATE RPMs in EPEL-7: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1436260 https://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos/2019-August/173154.html (and lots of others...) As a proof-of-concept, I've written some scripts that clone specific commits from the Fedora master branches, and then runs a tool to re-apply RPM scriptlets that are required by EL7 but removed from the Fedora .spec files. The scripts are available at: https://github.com/gebailey/mate-rpms/tree/master/1.20/el7 There's also instructions there if you want to try upgrading to MATE 1.20 w/o rebuilding them yourself. If these packages work for others, perhaps we can revisit the idea of updating the epel7 branches of the Fedora git repos and submitting an official update. There's nothing here (yet) about building MATE 1.22 (which might require a newer gcc for EL7), or building anything on CentOS 8, but thought the CentOS 7 users might find this helpful. -Greg

Boot time in wtmp is not correct

When I do who -b; uptime I get system boot 2021-10-12 17:05 16:36:09 up 30 min, 1 user, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00 As you can see the boot time reported by the last command is ahead. I have noted it is one hour ahead after a reboot. I have checked the system time in the BIOS before booting Linux and it is correct. -- Gerard Hooton.
