Prevent a particular kernel from being deleted

Somewhat related to my inquiry earlier today about the disappearing sound card, I just got to wondering if there's a way to "pin" the kernel that works with the soundcard such that it won't be deleted with future updates until and unless there's a future kernel released that solves the sound card issue. "dnf versionlock" appears to almost do what I want, but it just locks a package to a particular version and doesn't allow it to be upgraded past that. I'd like to be able to install updated kernels as they are released, but somehow tell dnf to never delete kernel version 4.18.0-240.22.1.el8_3.x86_64. In the normal course of events that kernel would be deleted after a certain number of kernels are installed afterward (as specified by the installonly_limit number in /etc/dnf/dnf.conf. So is there a way to tell dnf to update kernels in the usual manner but always keep a certain installed version until otherwise instructed? -- MELVILLE THEATRE ~ Real D 3D Digital Cinema ~ www.melvilletheatre.com

CentOS Community Code of Conduct

As per my email in April - https://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-devel/2021-April/076769.html - and per the approval of the Board of Directors, we have published the new CentOS Community Code of Conduct: https://www.centos.org/code-of-conduct/ This Code of Conduct is in effect immediately, and the reporting process described in there is in effect immediately. One note: The doc says that it is "a living document and will be updated when and if it is deemed necessary." One change that we forsee very soon is that, rather than me, as Community Architect, being the sole responsible party for reporting CoC incidents, I will be assembling a small CoC committee. While I have identified some of the people who will be part of that committee, I thought it was good to go ahead and publish the CoC as is, and modify it once that committee is all in place. For that reason, I am writing you today to let you know that a vulnerability in ISC DHCP will be publicly announced next week on Wednesday, 26 May 2021. Further details about that vulnerability will be publicly disclosed next week, and new releases of ISC DHCP that correct the vulnerability will be made available at that time. Static configuration: prevent /etc/resolv.conf from being overwritten on first reboot

Hi, Here's something that's puzzling me. Starting from a minimal installation of CentOS 7, network configuration is DHCP. I'm launching nmtui to define a static configuration. I'm providing the IP address as well as the gateway, but no DNS server. I'm quitting nmtui and I'm editing /etc/resolv.conf to provide my DNS server: # /etc/resolv.conf nameserver 192.168.0.254 I reboot my server, and I don't know why, but my /etc/resolv.conf has been overwritten: # Generated by NetworkManager So I edit this file again: # /etc/resolv.conf nameserver 192.168.0.254 And starting from here, it works, meaning /etc/resolv.conf is not overwritten on subsequent reboots. Q: how can I prevent /etc/resolv.conf from being overwritten on the initial reboot? I vaguely remember having to kill some process before editing it, but unfortunately I don't remember which one. Upgrade to 8.4 .2105 Problems

The yum upgrade from 8.3 to 8.4 on my main machine looked as if it was working fine so I went to have a coffee. When I came back the screens were blank so I don't know what happened. On rebooting the screens are still blank. I have two graphics cards running three displays. I have a "rescue" system on the same machine that upgraded from 8.3 to 8.4 fine. The 3 screens work fine on this. I am not sure the upgrade completed properly. For example the new kernel: vmlinuz-4.18.0-305.3.1.el8.x86_64 was not present in /boot. Even worse, "yum upgrade" said there was nothing to do and would not install it. I installed the kernel package manually. /etc/redhat-release says CentOS Linux release 8.4.2105 My main question is: Where are the config files for the screen(s). This used to be something like /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Since I have a working rescue system my current plan is to compare/copy the config files. Suggestions please as to where I should start. It is difficult to work without a GUI. I have ssh access to the machine. Thanks Alan -- Alan McRae

Sound card disappears on Acer laptop with latest kernel

4.18.0-240.22.1.el8_3.x86_64 Sound works as expected. 4.18.0-305.3.1.el8.x86_64 only "dummy output" shows up under the Sound Preferences on the desktop. I guess there's a kernel bug somewhere that's causing the driver for that soundcard to not load? Hi, I am referring to https://www.atoptool.nl/netatop.php and installed https://www.atoptool.nl/downloadnetatop.php kernel module netatop on CentOS Linux release 7.9.2009 (Core). How do I check Network activity per process? CentOS 8 repository

Hello All, At the moment im using http://mirror.centos.org/centos/8/ repo on my CentOS 8 host and I noticed, that im missing quite many new packages/updates what 8.4.2105 repo contains. Is there a possibility that they will also be transferred to on /8/ repo or should I start using /8.4.2105/ on my host ? Regards, Kimmo For Internal Use Only

Mirrors Sync

Dear All, Is there an issue with some mirrors not syncing properly ? My colleague is reporting , that some mirrors are receiving updates and others are not receiving packages. Some are, according to him, are not receiving updates since March. Is there an issue at the moment ? Any information is very welcome.
