disabling lame server logging

Continuing to 'clean up' my new server by reviewing logged messages. Researching a common one: Feb 26 07:30:29 onlo named[19336]: error (unexpected RCODE SERVFAIL) resolving 'foo.com/MX/IN': 1.2.3.4#53 I get the drift that my server has been directed to a 'lame server' and logs that fact. Supposedly I am to lookup the SOA record and contact the admin to fix this. What I really want to do is stop all these messages as I suspect I will not be able to do anything to fix the problem. So far what I have found is to add to my global logging section: category lame-servers { null; }; Is there a finer scalpel? I believe there are other lame server failures? Like 'RCODE REFUSED' and 'RCODE 15' (these are the 3 I see in my messages)? Can I block logging by RCODE, so as new ones appear I can learn what they mean before /dev/null ing them?

Nagios NRPE IPv6

On my network management server I have Name : nagios-plugins-nrpe Arch : x86_64 Version : 2.13 Release : 1.el6 Size : 38 k Repo : installed From repo : epel To my dismay I noticed that this doesn't seem to support IPv6: [ts@bombur ~]$ host galadriel.example.com galadriel.example.com has IPv6 address 2001:db8:f004:8::32 [ts@bombur ~]$ /usr/lib64/nagios/plugins/check_nrpe -n -H galadriel.example.com Invalid host name 'galadriel.example.com' [ts@bombur ~]$ /usr/lib64/nagios/plugins/check_nrpe -n -H 2001:db8:f004:8::32 Invalid host name '2001:db8:f004:8::32' [ts@bombur ~]$ (With obvious sanitization.) IIRC screen is older than SSH and was actually invented to switch between multiple screens on a text mode terminal attached either via a modem or a null modem cable. And then I went into conservative mode, as this impacted my firewall on Centos. Obviously overly conservative. I am learning more, and this time, for example, I am trying hard NOT to edit http.conf, instead to put some http.d/00-init-nn.conf files together so I can know as much as possible what I have added. I don't know yet if that can be done. I have done this on my test mail server. Will see if I can do it on my web server.

There are 3 issues here: Grub, the kernel and RedHat. 1) Grub won't run in an XFS /boot partition, but will happily run xfs_state1_5 to boot from an XFS root partition. 2) The kernel has supported XFS quite happily since at least 2005, I am looking at an SGI Propack 4 manual of February that year and it states that SLES 9 SP 1 contains the kernels with XFS support. 3) May be an issue. I'm just closing down an old Altix (2004 vintage) and that has always run XFS for everything except /boot. In the early days it used RedHat, but SGI's software included a patched kernel. Later on it ran SuSE Linux out-of-the-box. For compatibility I've configured the x86 machines with OpenSuSE 9 onwards as EXT2 for /boot and everything else on XFS. Sorry to mention SuSE on a CentOS NG, but that's where my experience lay at that time! I keep getting results like "Emmanuel C. Yumang M.D" :) So please enlighten me. Checking the exit value seems to be important. I did find http://wiki.centos.org/YumCheckOrInstallUpdates which I am studying. And it does not use ANG...
