Setting up NTP server

Greetings, Please treat this post with kid gloves as I am bit rusty of the late on centos and last NTP server that I worked on was during centos 5.1 days. I am going to have to install centos 6.3 in coming week in all windows environment. This box will be the tunning glpi and ocs-inventory. I am planning to have two NICs: one facing the raw internet and other on a Private LAN. I want this box (as NTP Client) to get time through NTP from raw internet using ADSL. I want this box to be the primary NTP server for the private LAN. none of the packet should traverse pass from LAN to Internet or vice versa. IOW, no routing should be there. If it work perhaps at a future date, may be an instance of squid proxy. I dont mind all the ports being open for the Private LAN or is that a bad idea? I am not sure if there is a DNS in this whole scenario And yes all the windows boxens (few w2k3, XP) in the LAN would have to synchronise time with this centos bo Is it possible? If so, how would typical config files for eth0, eth2, firewall(s) look like? -- Regards, Rajagopal

Long time away for Centos installs, need some info

I have not touched my Centos systems for over a year; it is time to get current to do some new, interesting things. So of course, 6.3, but which install? I run a local repo that I rsync from a mirror near me. So I believe I can use the Netinstall iso, but which one? How do I determine if I have a i386 or x86_64 processor? If x86_64 how do I determine if I use EFI or not?

iptables 1.4 and kernel 2.6 CONFIG_IP_NF_MATCH_STATE

Hi, I have a VPS running Centos 6.2 and trying to run this iptables rule: [root@myserver ~]# iptables -A INPUT -i venet0 -m state --state ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT iptables: No chain/target/match by that name. Narrowing down the issue it seems there is no IP_CONNTRACK support but now it's called NF_CONNTRACK. However following this link: http://www.spinics.net/lists/netfilter/msg33535.html I have found that I don't have CONFIG_IP_NF_MATCH_STATE support. Unfortunately this virtuozzo VPS is not using modules: [root@vrtl13369 ~]# lsmod Module Size Used by How can I enable that CONFIG_IP_NF_MATCH_STATE support in my kernel? I prefer to stick to the kernels provided by the repos and not recompile my own kernel. Regards, Miguel

iSCSI Question

Hey everyone, Is anybody aware of a /true/ active/active multi-head and multi-target clustered iSCSI daemon? IE: Server 1: Hostname: host1.test.com IP Address: 10.0.0.1 Server 2: Hostname: host2.test.com IP Address: 10.0.0.2 Then they would utilize a CLVM disk between them, let's call that VG "disk" and then directly map each LUN (1,2,3,4,etc) to LV's named 1,2,3,4,... and so on. That would essentially make both host1 and host2 identical iSCSI targets. So I could hook up 30 servers to each LUN on each host1 and host2 (assuming those block devices had a cluster aware filesystem on them). However, what I wan't to accomplish is true active/active MPIO utilizing the dm driver to combine LUN 1 from both host1 and host2 as a single /dev/dm-0 device in active/active mode. This would allow me to multipath across multiple fabrics, develop true high availability and increase my throughput significantly. Any idea of an iscsi tgtd that supports this? As far as I can tell, none do (that I can find). I know some proprietary vendors have this type of functionality, which may or may not be using iSCSI code (but that's a whole set of arguments for later..). Ultimately, my goal is this. I want to take my existing Ceph cluster, expose a handful of RBDs from it to two iSCSI heads running C6 or RHEL6 or what have you, so I can use my inexpensive storage built on Linux -- for my Windows 2008 machines. How to configure sendmail

In reading my Linux Admin books and looking at the help files I am confused about what entries to enter into sendmail.mc. To date I have not had to configure sendmail since I use a class in PHP that is straight, however I am learning how to use Concrete5 for my local Rotary club and it apparently needs sendmail. My smtp provider is smtp.sonic.net and it requires user name and password. Is there a simple example that could guide me on setting the parameters in sendmail.mc? Extending schema on Centos DS

I am running CentOS DS server (version 8.1.0) in a mixed master setup. I am looking for the best way to extend the schema without breaking replication? I was successfully able to extend the schema on my two servers manually but replication broke after a restart of dirsrv. [03/Dec/2012:11:04:17 -0400] NSMMReplicationPlugin - agmt="cn=web-ldap02" (web-ldap02:389): Unable to acquire replica: there is no replicated area "dc=eastlink,dc=ca" on the consumer server. Replication is aborting. XFCE4 group missing on Centos 5.x?

I had XFCE group installed and working on C5.8 32 bit. I have done a fresh installation using the C 5.5 DVD. I cannot seem to find the XFCE group now. Has this been removed from Centos 5.x ? matplotlib pygtk version problem

Hello, Anybody a solution for the following problem: the matplotlib library for Python in Centos 6.3 crashes my application because of a deprecated PyGtk2 version. Can be easily reproduced: installation of python 2.6.6 with matplotlib Type in the python shell: from pylab import plot plot([0,1],[0,1]) Error: /usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/matplotlib/backends/backend_gtk.py:621: DeprecationWarning: Use the new widget gtk.Tooltip self.tooltips = gtk.Tooltips() self.tooltips = gtk.Tooltips() Fatal Python error: GC object already tracked Aborted (core dumped) Looks like it has to do with the ridiculous old PyGtk version 2.16 which should be >2.2 for matplotlib any solutions? CentOS 6.3 - KDE login screen configuration problems

Hello, We generally use CentOS for some servers, and so do not use a GUI interface. However, I have recently installed CentOS 6.3 onto a PC with KDE. I am familiar with KDE as I use it with Fedora for my work PC. The problem is that we would like to configure the login screen, so that it does not show the user list, that it does not allow the shutdown or reboot commands (from the login screen), and if possible to remove the 30 second confirmation timer that occurs when logout (via 'leave') is selected. I have gone into the 'System settings->Advanced->Login screen', and disabled both local and remote shutdowns and reboots. I have also disabled the showing of the user list, and disabled logout confirmations. However, none of this has had any effect. The login screen remains the same - showing the userlist and shutdown/reboot commands, and logging out still shows the 30 second confirmation timer. I have compared the /etc/kde/kdm/kdmrc file from the CentOS PC to my Fedora PC and they are similar. (I make the same changes to my work PC, and these take effect.) Anyone any ideas about this?
