Cannot get kvm guests to connect to network

I installed a new CentOS-6.3 kvm guest on a recently provisioned kvm host also running CentOS-6.3. This guest will not connect to the network and the host cannot connect to it via its public IP address. I had previously installed a guest system on thst same kvm host using the same ISO and that system connects to the network without problem. I next created a third guest isntance and this too does not connect with either the kvm host or the gateway. I have installed litterally dozens of kvm guests this past year and I have never encountered this situation. Has anyone else? Hostname

Hi, all. A very basic question but I'm wondering if anyone could give me a definitive answer. I recently installed CentOS 6.3 x86_64 on a Dell Poweredge 1850 (minimal desktop) & after setting the hostname during the install, when bringing up a terminal prompt, I'm still getting `localhost.localdomain` instead of the hostname I set during install (interestingly enough both parted & fdisk both show the correct hostname). After Googling the subject somewhat, it seems to be no definitive, correct way that everybody agreed upon. I'm away from my CentOS boxes for the morning (including the one in question) but on my Fedora 17 laptop, I notice that the given hostname is set in `/etc/sysconfig/network` but in `/etc/hosts`, it's `localhost.localdomain` & `localhost`. If I set my errant CentOS box the same way (all the others I have are OK), will this do the trick? Sorry for the basicness of the question but I'll be disabling the screen capabilities of the server this afternoon & putting her in situ & would like to get it right. Quota system over NFS

I've been trying to implement the quota system for a Linux cluster. I'm trying it out on a mini-cluster of 4 CentOS 6.3 VMs. I've named them: lion-login lion-sn1 lion-cn01 lion-cn02 All nodes are on the virtual subnet 192.168.56.0/24. lion-sn1 (storage node 1) is the NFS server and the other three nodes are the NFS clients. /etc/exports on lion-sn1: /home 192.168.56.0/24(rw) /etc/fstab on the other nodes: lion-sn1:/home /home nfs defaults,usrquota 0 2 User quotas are enabled on /home. rpc.rquotad is running on all 4 nodes. I'm having two problems: 1. I've confirmed that /etc/init.d/halt is running 'quotaoff -aug' before the file systems are unmounted but the shutdown of lion-sn1 is usually delayed for half a minute because a process is supposedly using /home. Any suggestions on how I could troubleshoot this? 2. Quotas work fine on lion-sn1 (the NFS server). Here's what happens when I copy several large ISOs into a user's home directory: 2. Perl - strict.pm not found

Hello, I installed the ClamAV package onto a CentOS 6.3 server using yum. I then modified the /etc/freshclam.conf file to run a perl script whenever the ClamAV databases were updated: OnUpdateExecute /usr/local/bin/xymon_event ... The 'xymon_event' command is used on several servers, and generally works with no problems. However, on this server when the /etc/cron.daily/freshclam script runs in the early morning, I get sent an email error message: ===================================== /etc/cron.daily/freshclam: Can't locate strict.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/local/lib64/perl5 /usr/local/share/perl5 /usr/lib64/perl5/vendor_perl /usr/share/perl5/vendor_perl /usr/lib64/perl5 /usr/share/perl5 .) at /usr/local/bin/xymon_event line 15. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/local/bin/xymon_event line 15. ===================================== The problem is that 'strict.pm' is located in /usr/share/perl5 (as it is on our other servers), and /usr/share/perl5 is specified in @INC. So I am a bit lost as to why perl seems to think that strict.pm cannot be found. Anyone any ideas? We run ClamAV, with the freshclam cron job and xymon_event, on other servers (albeit CentOS 5.8) with no problems. Setting PS1 for ordinary users

CentOS-6 When I login as root I see this prompt: [root@vhost04 ~]# When I login as a non-priviledged user I see this instead: sh-4.1$ .bashrc and .bash_profile have identical contents in /root and /home/user. What causes the difference? Why? How does one change the default so that all normal users get a [userid@hostname pwd]$ prompt? nfs4 idmapd.conf user mapping

On my CentOS 6.3 machine, in /etc/idmapd.conf I've updated the "[Mapping]" section of the config file: Nobody-User = paulbsch Nobody-Group = paulbsch But the mapping is not working. Files still show up as being owned by "nobody". On my Fedora 14 machine, with the exact same changes to /etc/idmapd.conf, the mapping works perfectly and the files show up as being owned by "paulbsch". On the CentOS 6.3 machine: nfs-utils-1.2.3-26.el6.x86_64 nfs-utils-lib-1.1.5-4.el6.x86_64 On the F14 machine: nfs-utils-1.2.3-6.fc14.x86_64 nfs-utils-lib-1.1.5-3.fc14.x86_64 Would anybody have any idea why this is does not work on CentOS as it does in F14? Mount options for NFS

We're experiencing problems with some legacy software when it comes to NFS access. Even though files are visible in a terminal and can be accessed with standard shell tools and vi, this software typically complains that the files are empty or not syntactically correct. The NFS filesystems in question are 8TB+ XFS filesystems mounted with "delaylog,inode64,logbsize=32k,logdev=/dev/sda2,nobarrier,quota" options, and I suspect that inode64 may have to do with the observed behaviour. The server is running CentOS 6.3 + all patches. The clients exhibiting the problem are running CentOS 5.4 and CentOS 5.8 x84_64. Interesting enough, the application (which is available in 32-bit only) appears to work fine on RHEL3 32-bit; we have no CentOS5 32-bit systems to test. I was wondering if anyone has seen such behaviour and whether it can be corrected using nfs mount options. The only other solution I have at the moment is reformatting to ext4, i.e. ugly.

CentOs - howto log Firefox EM

Dear All, how can I create a Firefox log? My actual problem is this: I have 17 stations connecting to a Drupal database, that I don't have admin access to. Some of these stations are OpenSuse , some are Centos6.3 and two are Centos5.8. One of this Centos5.8 install frequently has this EM when connecting to this database using Firefox: "There was a problem with an async httprequest response" When I google this, it seems Ajax / Java related. The Centos5.8 stations are standard installs, no modifications have been made to java or anything. I'm now trying to find out if it's server related of client-side. greetings, j.
