Hello, i use dropbox to have a back up in my computer. Theres a way to have dropbox in server? and have www folder in dropbox? to use dropbox instead ftp.

centos6 - failsafe terminal on login screen

I have some clients that run centos6 and I need to have users be able to access the "failsafe terminal" from the login screen. The old options (from 4/5) for choosing your session aren't present. I've googled a bit on this but don't seem to be using a good search string as most of the hits have nothing to do with this and the rest aren't helpful. So, just wondering if anyone knows what I need to do to "turn on" session choosing from the login screen, and how to include the failsafe terminal. Thanks! Miranda

I have installed a minimal kvm host system. I wish to provide a graphical login on the host. To this end I performed the following group installs: yum groupinstall "general purpose desktop" "x windows system" I can login on the host system as root and then run 'startx' which gives me a desktop, sort of. The top menu bar with the various tool sets is missing as is the lower status bar. I get the same result when I log in as a non privileged user. Am I missing some other package which is required to provide these? new "large" fileserver config questions

Hi all, I was recently charged with configuring a new fairly large (24x3TB disks) fileserver for my group. I think I know mostly what I want to do with it, but I did have two questions, at least one of which is directly related to CentOS. 1) The controller node has two 90GB SSDs that I plan to use as a bootable RAID1 system disk. What is the preferred method for laying out the RAID array? I found this document on the wiki: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Install_On_Partitionable_RAID1 But that seems like it's somewhat nonstandard. From what I've read in the RHEL6 docs, it seems like the anaconda-supported RAID1 install is the alternative that the wiki suggests, partitioning the disk and adding the partitions to the appropriate RAID1 array. So, is there a happy medium, where anaconda more directly supports the partitionable RAID1 install method? And if so, what are the drawbacks to such a configuration? The wiki talks about the advantages but doesn't really address any disadvantages. 2) With large arrays you often hear about "aligning the filesystem to the disk". Is there a fairly standard way (I hope using only CentOS tools) of going about this? Are the various mkfs tools smart enough to figure out how an array is aligned on its own, or is sysadmin intervention required on such large arrays? (If it helps any, the disk array is backed by a 3ware 9750 controller. OCZ Vertex3 SSD and LSI 9211-8i (mpt2sas)

I have a couple development servers running centos 6.3 64bit that have LSI 9211-8i SAS2 controllers connected to a SAS2 backplane. these work fine with SATA hard disks (populated with a bunch of 3TB SATA drives)... I'm trying to install a OCZ Vertex3 SSD on each of the two servers to do some ssd caching tests... system sees the drive, so I do the following... # parted -a min /dev/sdu parted> mklabel gpt parted> mkpart primary ext4 2048s -1s parted> q # mkfs.ext4 /dev/sdu1 and it hangs at 'Discarding device blocks: 0/58607505' which I gather is related to 'trim' aka 'discard'. iostat shows this drive as 100% busy with no activity, and 1 pending operation in the IO queue. every 30 secs or so /var/lkog/messages gets... CentOS 5.8, xen kernel, and nfs4

G'day, I have a workstation running CentOS 5.8 with kernel 2.6.18-308.el5. This workstation needs to mount a NFS4 directory on a server (mysvr in the example below). If the computer is running the XEN kernel (uname -a reports ...2.6.18-308.el5xen), my NFS4 share is mounted but "ls" reports an error. Xen kernel: uname -a ...2.6.18-308.el5xen mount | grep mysvr mysvr:/ on /mnt/mysvr type nfs4 (rw,nodev,hard,intr,addr=1.2.3.4) ls /mnt/mysvr/data ls: /mnt/mysvr/data: Not a directory When I boot to a non-xen kernel, the mount works fine (and has for a few years). uname -a ...2.6.18-308.el5 mount | grep mysvr mysvr:/ on /mnt/mysvr type nfs4 (rw,nodev,hard,intr,addr=1.2.3.4) ls /mnt/mysvr/data myfile.txt ...
