Greetings all, newbie to CentOS here. Also newbie to 64 bit installs. Package Manager problem: I found a yumex, which is not part of the 64 bit install, but it wants a way older version of python-2.4 whereas we have 2.6.6-something after the post install upgrade. 1st Question: Is there anything that can be done about this? Or is there something better, like a 64 bit synaptic to replace yumex? Mail problem: I've been using a fetchmail -> procmail system here for years to unload kmail from its mail pulling duties, making it many times easier to use. Adjuncts to that are spamassassin, clamav, and mailfilter There appears not to be any 64 bit builds of clamav and mailfilter. Boom on a 64 bit machine. 2nd Question: How best to fix that? I know enough C to be dangerous, but somewhere between .0000zip and absolutely nothing about c++. There are other mail related problems, like a missing inotifywait and its library, but moving the 32 bit versions into what appeared to be the correct locations, and that seems to work 99% well. Suffice to say mail is moving, but the noise filters aren't working. Thanks to anyone who can help here. Upgrading from 5.7 to 5.8

My box did upgrade itself automatically from the initial 5.5 DVD installation to 5.7 How can I tell if my box has been automatically upgraded from 5.7 to 5.8 please? I see the CentOS-CR.repo is still in my /etc/yum.repos.d/ directory. Is that repo responsible for doing the automatic upgrades for Centos 5.x? It is not on my Centos 6.2 system, and doing a little searching through repositories for that specifically, or e4fsprogs, and I can't find it anywhere to even try it. Any google reference seems to point back to resize2fs. I ended up booting a live SystemRescueCD and using GParted via the GUI. My notes indicate that is what I had done previously also. I am still stumped, everything that I have read indicates that resize2fs can do a live resizing on ext4 file systems. Can anybody confirm or deny this? reinventing the wheel? page checker

Not sure if there is an app like this yet. I want to keep tabs on my web applications and thought of using a 'page checker'/ I was thinking either running a sum on the directory or each file...but thinking a simple date check would be fine. The idea is web application, except the uploads area for photos, never has changes to its files except when I change it. However, if it gets injected or hacked, I would want to know right away. So thinking of running a script every minute looking for files where the date changed since 'x' date or something like that. Anything out there like that? thanks

converting .doc to html

Anyone got a preferred program or package for this? I'd like a *good* one, and Word or OO.o's save as html in no way qualifies as other than amateur crap. So far, with a little googling, I've found the wv package. wvHtml works, but I don't like the output - it insists on <div>, and on &rhquo instead of plain, simple ". mark "what, ask for an opinion in this shy, diffident group?"

basic auth fails

Hello, I've setup apache basic auth on by web server to protect my nagios site. It's been working just fine, but suddenly it stopped accepting passwords even tho they are being typed in correctly. I was wondering if I could get some advice on how to troubleshoot this? I'm on a centos 5.4 machine Linux 2.6.21.7-2.fc8xen #1 SMP Fri Feb 15 12:34:28 EST 2008 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Server version: Apache/2.2.21 (Unix) Server built: Nov 14 2011 18:03:07 I don't see any indication in the logs as to why this may be happening, but it's possible I might not be looking for the right things. SATA errors in log

Hi, I have a SATA PCIe 6Gbps 4 port controller card made by Startech. The kernel (Linux viz1 2.6.32-220.4.1.el6.x86_64) sees it as Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88SE9123 I use it to provide extra SATA ports to a raid system. The HD's are all "WD2003FYYS" and so run at 3Gbps on the 6Gbps controller.
