I will remove allocsize first and report back. - aurf

2 systems, can't connect to apache on one

I have 2 systems, both with the same version of CentOS installed. Both have identical versions of apache running and identical httpd.conf files. From a third system, if I point my browser at system 1, I can connect to it with no problem. But if I point my browser at system 2, I cannot connect. There is nothing logged anywhere that I can find on system 2 - not in the apache error log or access log, or the audit log, or anywhere. I tried disabling selinux, but that did not help. I can ping and ssh into system 2, so I know I have a route to it. It's like the request never reaches the server. Anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this or what I could check to help me diagnose the problem? TIA! -larry

Can only login as root

I have a strange problem on a CentOS-5.8 machine. I can only login as root. If I try to login with one of the user's names, it hangs for a long time. I thought it hung forever, but I just found that I do login after "su tim" after 5 minutes. It seems that the problem lies in repeated messages in /var/log/messages --------------------------- May 3 12:14:13 helen su: nss_ldap: failed to bind to LDAP server ldap://www.gayleard.com/: Can't contact LDAP server May 3 12:14:13 helen su: nss_ldap: reconnecting to LDAP server (sleeping 64 seconds)... --------------------------- The openldap server is not running, and I don't see why this authentication is being sought. I've added irqpoll option to kernel line in grub.conf but it hasn't helped. I've checked options in bios but haven't found anything interesting. Any clues what to do next? Limiting network traffic from different IPs.

Hi all. I have a router with 5 network interfaces and sometimes there is so much traffic on one of them that the server load is very high. What are the options to limit the traffic per IP address on every interface? Which need least system (CPU, memory) resources? Thanks. Best regards, Rafal.

Upgrading PHP and PHP53 on CentOS5 - Progress/Problem w/ Squirrelmail

Greetings In the attempt to upgrade the technology stack on CentOS 5 from stock PHP to PHP53 I have made some progress. Much thanks to all respondents, especially Jesus. One repository that provides a complete set of builds and seems to fulfill both PHP and PHP53 requirements is the IUS one: http://iuscommunity.org/ Repos here: http://dl.iuscommunity.org/pub/ius/stable/Redhat/5/i386/repoview/ One reference to several discussions covering this topic are available here: https://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=30881 Using the IUS PHP53 rpms allows for the rpm re-installation of drupal6, phpmyadmin, and squirrelmail. However, with Squirrelmail there is one critical issue. Via one of its plugins, Squirellmail provides an html email editor. With the upgrade to PHP53, the editor continues to work. However, the html email that is composed using this functionality is received empty. Reverting back to the original CentOS PHP packages re-enables this functionality. Is there a solution to this issue? Much thanks. One (secondary) thing. In order to support yum updates from the IUS repository, how do I load the appropriate file? Much thanks. A new file generated today is also 2.4MB but via NFS its 66MB, even when logged in to the server locally its 66MB! You hinted to cache and so I looked around my Raid controller settings, specifically write through vs write back. I will change it from write back to write through later tonight and report back. The pattern is all files new files look to be 66MB until some time later. I do have a 4GB mem cache on this Raid controller (Areca). - aurf
