Incomplete host name resolution

Hello I happen to have two network interfaces on my new, up-to-date, CentOS 6.2, named eth0 and virbr0 (3 of them if I include the lo interface). However the system APIs like getaddrinfo() only return the address for the virbr0 interface (which was created by the CentOS installation), when I would like to have them both. Even if I give the configured eth0 address explicitly to getnameinfo(), it can not perform the reverse lookup to my hostname, and returns a string with the same numeric IP address given as argument. I also can not get the list of samba name aliases for my host name. I can happily ping my host from a different computer on the eth0 network, so the nmb service binds on eth0 and works as expected. I have installed and configured smb, nmb and winbind services, and I have added 'wins' to /etc/nsswitch.conf, so my hosts line there looks like: hosts: files wins mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns Is there something I should do for wins name service to return all IP addresses ? Are there some similar settings that I need to do in order to get the reverse lookup to work ? For reference here are my system information and application output, as follows. Berkeley DB SQL

Hi, I am converting a system to use Berkeley DB for file access instead of ISAM files, but need to be able to examine the data in the files while testing. Does anyone know whether the DB SQL from Russian Fedora Free Updates for CentOS 6 (RHEL 6) (libdb-sql-devel-5.2.36-5.el6.R.x86_64.rpm) will work with the version of Berkeley Data Base on CentOS and RH 6? Ext3 and drbd read-only remount problem.

Hi all. I have two hosts with drbd: kmod-drbd83-8.3.8-1.el5.centos drbd83-8.3.8-1.el5.centos and kernel (CentOS 5.7): 2.6.18-308.4.1.el5 After a recent upgrade of kernel I have had two sitiuations when my ext3 filesystem on /dev/drbd0 became read-only. I've checked disks with smartctl -t long, they are ok. There are no messages with disks problems in /var/log/messages | dmesg. Alan& Akemi, Would it be possible to get CONFIG_ARPD turned on in the centosplus 6.x kernel? It is required to use opennhrp. 2 systems, can't connect to apache on one

I have 2 systems, both with the same version of CentOS installed. Both have identical versions of apache running and identical httpd.conf files. From a third system, if I point my browser at system 1, I can connect to it with no problem. But if I point my browser at system 2, I cannot connect. There is nothing logged anywhere that I can find on system 2 - not in the apache error log or access log, or the audit log, or anywhere. I tried disabling selinux, but that did not help. I can ping and ssh into system 2, so I know I have a route to it. It's like the request never reaches the server. Anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this or what I could check to help me diagnose the problem? TIA! -larry

Can only login as root

I have a strange problem on a CentOS-5.8 machine. I can only login as root. If I try to login with one of the user's names, it hangs for a long time. I thought it hung forever, but I just found that I do login after "su tim" after 5 minutes. It seems that the problem lies in repeated messages in /var/log/messages --------------------------- May 3 12:14:13 helen su: nss_ldap: failed to bind to LDAP server ldap://www.gayleard.com/: Can't contact LDAP server May 3 12:14:13 helen su: nss_ldap: reconnecting to LDAP server (sleeping 64 seconds)... --------------------------- The openldap server is not running, and I don't see why this authentication is being sought. Once one requires local shell access to a system be granted to ordinary users then I treat that host as compromised, install and run nothing on it beyond what is required to support shell access, and firewall it as if it resides on an alien network. Webmin is not the problem in this case. Want of prudence is.
