how to get dev/dsp and oss modules back

Hello I have some older programs that require OSS and /dev/dsp I have tried the pulseaudio trick with padsp but some work and some don't. I have also edited the /etc/modprobe/dist-oss-conf and uncommented the line that says install snd-pcm /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install snd-pcm && /sbin/modprobe snd-pcm-oss && /sbin/modprobe snd-seq-device && /sbin/modprobe snd-seq-oss This was supposed to work at least from what I have read to get the modules back but unfortunately it has not. I have no /dev/dsp at all or any oss modules when doing a lsmod. So my question is this, have the OSS modules and support been removed from the kernel like many other distros have done? If so I will have to rebuild the kernel to get this functionality back which really is no big deal, but was hoping someone would know something I do not, thanks in advance. -- Mister Jones

Hi, Sorry about the top-posting, I'm replying from my blackberry. I've been following this thread for a while and really don't see why people respond so rabidly to criticism. If something bothers/bores me about a thread I just Ignore the thread/user. If no one is interested the thread dies out on its own. However, let if someone has something to say let them. The people who reply/comment *want* to talk about it. No one forces anyone to *read* the thread. Just ignore it. It's that simple. Going as far as threatening to ban a user for commenting negatively or positively or. even "off-topic" (this is relative, e.g., I found the discussion on the strengths & weaknesses of ubuntu/centos/redhat el interesting & in some cases informative as the various issues were debated). I would think that there's nothing wrong with allowing people the freedom to discuss centos-related stuff on the centos list. As I mentioned earlier it's as simple as ignoring a thread if don't like it. There's no need to flame, ban or go on a rant just because someone says something you don't like about your favourite OS has been attacked. For the record I *like* centos & am in the process of replacing some of my fedora & ubuntu server installations *with* centos. But if you install 6.0 and use CR, you are in good shape. There are even updates in there that are newer than 6.1 (it also contains the updates TO 6.1). I can never say how long it will take to build something that we have not built yet ... if we have to redesign a system from scratch, it will take time. You are correct, if CentOS does not work for you then move on. I want to confirm that the solution posed by René re installing kmod-fglrx from elRepo also works well for HP Proliant servers (in my case DL360 G6) with ATI gfx to restore the text boot progress display and virtual terminals. Convert RTF to ANSI color codes

Anyone have a script or utility to convert an RTF file to ANSI? The main idea here is to preserve the color codes that are specified in the RTF file, so they can be displayed easily in a terminal window.

Hi All, Anyone have a working CentOS 6 kickstart file that they are using to bind a host to Active Directory 2008 R2? I'm working on a full AD/Linux environment and would like to stand on the shoulders of others if they are already doing such a thing. I'm thinking I need to enable LDAP and Kerberos, although Winbind might also be the key here. The config will ideally get the UID and GID from the AD UNIX Attributes tab and not some random UID/GID hash. -- James A.
