Bad update man-1.6d-2.el5.i386?

Hi, I noticed the man update for my CentOS-5 kept popping up a couple of times, so instead of using yum-updatesd from the desktop I tried doing a yum update by hand. The update fails, even after removing the package from the cache: Error unpacking rpm package man-1.6d-2.el5.i386 error: unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/share/locale/bg/man: cpio: rename Failed: man.i386 0:1.6d-2.el5 Is this a metadata issue with my cache or is that update bad? CentOS 5.7: stop level 3 beep

In my CentOS 5.7 laptop, I boot to level 3, and do startx to get KDE if I need it. I stopped the beeps at level 5, but how do I stop them at level 3? Thanks, Mike.

Safely Remove Disk on LVM

Dear All, I plan to replace an error disk that is part of an LV. from LVM how-to it could be done with using pvmove to move all PE from old disk to new disk.But the howto also said that pvmove is slow. Anyone has experience using pvmove on 2TB disk? Is it possible to make all PE on the old disk empty so I don't have to do pvmove (assuming that I can make a free space >= 2TB). Heads up: ip_nat_ftp module can cause FTP problems in 5.7

Hi, after updating one of my systems to 5.7 FTP connections stopped working. After a bit of debugging I found out that the ip_nat_ftp module apparently breaks things in 5.7. So I you update your systems and suddenly FTP starts acting up check if you have that module in /etc/sysconfig/iptables-config. Details: http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=5135 Regards, Dennis

sudo wildcards problem: for every argument a *-wildcard? Better solution?

Hi folks I allow the user tommy to run this command as root sudoCommand: /app/appname/connectors/*/*/current/bin/* With "sudo -l" he sees the sudoers, but is unable to execute. $ sudo /app/appname/connectors/zur/namename/current/bin/othername agentsvc --i --u root --sn 1m7command Sorry, user tommy is not allowed to execute '/app/appname/connectors/zur/namename/current/bin/othername agentsvc --i --u root --sn 1m7command' as root on testcentbox07. I guess because of wildcard arguments. Does every argument needs a *-wildcard? How to do when I don't know the number of arguments? cheers Sven
