pxe booting questions

hello, I have a situation where I am using PXE and kickstart to install my machines. My set up is as follows: i have a cobbler server which is also an mrepo mirror doing the booting. my mrepo tree has both disc1 and disc2 loop mounted, and RPMS.os symlinks both the discs contens to generate the unified os tree. This all works fine. My issue is with the kickstart, if i use the disc1 as the url (like below) when it tries to install a package that is on disc2, it still looks for it in the disc1 location. Below is a snippet of my kickstart file (which works great if i do not select any packages that reside on the disc2 of the centos install (All discs have been verified as working via sha an md5 checksums). url --url=http://mrepo/mrepo/centos6-x86_64/disc1 repo --name=os --baseurl=http://mrepo/mrepo/centos6-x86_64/RPMS.os selinux --permissive install lang en_US.UTF-8 keyboard us skipx rootpw firewall --disabled authconfig --enableshadow --enablemd5 %packages redhat-lsb rubygems puppet %end Thanks. On my new Dell system, it's got a cardreader. More to the point, it's got an idiot menu key... *right* next to the right control key, and just where the annoying keyboard design has it cut down from the oversize space bar ASCII art <ctrl><WinDoze> <tall[ ]<tall<tall<tall <ctrl> Alt>[ tall spacebar ] alt> Win> menu> The result is that just trying to type, I regularly hit the thing. Does anyone have an idea how to disable this forever (if y'all don't, I'm prying the key *off*). Thanks in advance. mark

centos6 not using /etc/gdm/custom.conf

In CentOS5 you were able to create a server section in /etc/gdm/custom.conf such as [server-Standard] name=Standard server command=/usr/bin/Xorg -br -audit 4 -s 15 chooser=false handled=true flexible=true priority=0 After this change, Xorg would run with the -br -audit 4 -s 15 options. Unfortunately in CentOS6 this is not the case. It completely ignores anything put into custom.conf as far as I can tell. It appears to run with -nr -verbose -auth -nolisten tcp by default. Is there any way to modify this? Regards, Stephen Jamieson

CentOS 6 PXE boot:Unable to download the kickstart file

We have CentOS 6 manual installation working by PXE booting from a RHEL5.6 PXE/TFTP server. However, when we add a Kickstart file in the PXE configuration: kernel CentOS-6-i386/vmlinuz append load_ramdisk=1 initrd=CentOS-6-i386/initrd.img network ks=nfs:130.226.86.4:/u/rpm/kickstart/ks-centos-6-clean-i386.cfg then the CentOS 6 client install reports "Unable to download the kickstart file". The console 3 reports "failed to mount nfs source". We believe the NFS server is OK because we can install CentOS5 clients in this way. Perhaps this problem is related to this RHEL6 bug? https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=653655 However, on the centos list I see some people who apparently go Kickstart to work with CentOS 6 - but how did they do it? missing run-parts in /etc/crontab

hello, after a Centos 6 fresh install, I don't see any run-parts scripts in /etc/contab like in the 5.x releases : # run-parts 01 * * * * root run-parts /etc/cron.hourly 02 4 * * * root run-parts /etc/cron.daily 22 4 * * 0 root run-parts /etc/cron.weekly 42 4 1 * * root run-parts /etc/cron.monthly was it moved somewhere else ? am I missing any package ? thanks, Tom

VLC package(s) for C6 ?

Hi listees! Just installed C6 (more or less) permanently on my eeepc. I've enabled rpmfusion non-free, rpmfusion free, elrepo, and epel, prior to this point I've been running fedora on it (f10 thru f14) and have always found VLC at rpmfusion. (but finally RHEL/Centos have become modern enough to support the eeepc's funky hardware, so I'm switching back--tired of the version churn of Fedora.) but RpmFusion does not seem to have packaged VLC for EL6, nor have epel or elrepo, Anyone know where to find such packages? thanks! Why are all repos < 5.6 listed?

Greetings all. I just enabled all repos on my system, to enable me to find a particular package. This is the first time I have noticed all the Centos repos < 5.6 being listed. Is this a new feature, to include all repos pre 5.6 now? nouveau driver one centos 6

I "wish" to not load the or even install the nouveau driver by default. I want to use the NVIDIA binary driver. I have tried a number of things: 1) in my kickstart package section add the line: -xorg-x11-drv-nouveau This did not work - it was still installed. 2) use the nvidia installer and it asks to create a modprobe.conf file to blacklist the driver. I said yes thats what I want. I verified the file being present and rebooted. The driver is still loaded "lsmod | grep nou" still showed it present. 3) I tried "rpm -e xorg-x11-drv-nouveau --nodeps". This seeming worked however the files for nouveau were still present. find / | grep nouveau showed driver files and more.... So - anyone know how to get this off of my machine??? I thought the "-" in the kickstart package section would work, but no. Thanks so much for any thoughts. jerry
