CentOS 5.6 PHP 5.3 and SquirrelMail

OK, so I did an upgrade to PHP 5.3 on one of my servers. I noticed the uninstall of php also removed SquirrelMail and it won't install under PHP 5.3. Has anybody worked this out with a good RPM or repo solution? -- John Hinton 877-777-1407 ext 502 http://www.ew3d.com Comprehensive Online Solutions

An .1 release is basically a .0 release + patches so I don't see any real difference. The hard part is reverse engineering the .0 release build environment and the .1 follows pretty quick from there. Occasionally a .x release breaks the environment and you get situations like 5.6 was. Just my $0.02 form trolling the lists the last few years. :-) -- Drew Waiting patiently for 6.x so he can try out KVM stuff without having to do a from scratch reinstall.

How to resolve Centos Linux Version 5.5 x86_32 Callgrind Version 3.6.1 cg_annotate : Line 1 Missing command line error?

Good afternoon, We are running callgrind and cg_annotate version 3.6.1 on Centos Linux Version 5.5 x86_32. One month ago Mr. Josef Weidenorfer issued a special patch that fixed callgrind on Centos Linux Version 5.5 x86_32. We can now profile complex C++ programs which use our own shared library libmdMatchup.so. However, when we use version 3.6.1 cg_annotate callgrind.out.22533 --auto = yes -I/home/frankc/DQTTest6/MatchUpLib/Source, we obtain the error. Line 1 Missing command line. callgrind.out.22533 was created using the command line: /home/frankc/DQTTest2/valgrind-3.6.1/coregrind/valgrind --tool=callgrind --dump-instr=yes --simulate-cache=yes --collect-jumps=yes ./MatchUpAccurate.exe. MatchUpAccurate.exe uses a special shared library libmdMatchup.so Could some engineer or programmer please tell us what we are doing wrong in using callgrind and cg_annotate? Please let us know if other programmers/developers have been able to use cg_annotate version 3.6.1 on Centos Linux Version 5.5 x86_32. OT: wifi, phone, power in India and Malaysia

A not so technical friend in India is shopping for a laptop. He often travels and stays months in Malaysia and so needs to be able to use the laptop there as well. He typically connects to the internet via wifi, but sometimes must use a telephone line (yes, with a modem). And of course there will be times when he has to plug into mains power to recharge the battery. So to be able to fully use his future laptop in both India and Malaysia, I need to know: Are the wifi standards the same in both India and Malaysia? And will the same wifi card work in both countries? Similarly, will the modem work in both countries? And, too, is the mains power the same in India and Malaysia? If there is an incompatibility in any of these, what is the simplest resolution? I should probably get him an extended warranty also. Is there such a warranty which would allow him to have the laptop fixed in either country, depending upon where he happens to be? Am I overlooking any considerations? Thanks in advance for your sage experience.

scsi3 persistent reservations in cluster storage fencing

I'm interested in the idea of sharing a bunch of SAS JBOD devices between two CentOS servers in an active-standby HA cluster sort of arrangement, and found something about using scsi3 persistent reservations as a fencing method. I'm not finding a lot of specifics about how this works, or how you configure two initiator systems on a SAS chain. I don't have any suitable hardware for running any tests or evaluations yet. general idea: 2 centos servers each with 8 port external SAS cards (2 x4), cascaded through a SAS box-o-disks with a whole bunch of SAS dual ported drives, to implement high availability large nearline storage. all storage configured as JBOD, using linux md raid or lvm mirroring. drives should only be accessible by the currently active server, with heartbeat managing the fencing. here's a hardware block diagram http://freescruz.com/shared-sas.jpg This is about the only details I've found on scsi persistant reservations and linux HA http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/5/html/Configura… One question I have is: how well will this scale with several strings of 100 SAS drives on the same HA pair of servers? FTP Migration

Hi All, Please feel free to correct any misconceptions in my premises as I get to my question. I have about 6 ftp services running on a CentOS system that is going down for service, and I want to move the ftp services to a VM on another network. These are all running on Proftpd, with fairly complicated directory/permissions/rate control layouts, as proftpd nicely supports. First, it appears that RH and CentOS have dropped proftpd since I last looked and are now only shipping vsftpd in the repositories. Second, I looked at the vsftpd site, and noticed a complete absence of documentation (other than a basic bare-bones manpage), so I have no idea if vsftpd will support anything that I'm doing with proftpd, or any information about how to configure anything. Obviously I could just install the latest version of proftpd from source on the new host and get on with my life, but is there any reason to bite the bullet and try to convert my ftp sites to a new, basically undocumented ftp server? Any input appreciated, especially on conversions of complicated ftp sites from proftpd to vsftpd. Thanks, --Bill

Web based file versioning frontend

Hey guys, Need an opinion on what to use for file versioning text conf files that get updated by scheduled rsync's etc. Need something that can watch the file, so it doesn't need an explicit checkin, and can be diffed by a web front end. I haven't any preference on backend either. Thanks for any suggestions, jlc

Keep CentOS 5.5 from upgrading?

Thanks, I'm trying to keep CentOS 5.5 from upgrading to 5.6 because of my issue with the time sync. I thought I had it figured out till today. I have tried google for help but with no luck. Can someone point me to a page or link that will give me a good idea as to how to stop the upgrade but still allow me to update my 5.5 packages? This is what I tried, that is not working now. xferlog not rotating.

I am not sure how to correctly troubleshoot this. I just noticed that my /var/log/xferlog file is huge. There are no files in /etc/logrotate.d/ for xferlog. This is what leads me to believe that it isnot rotating. Or perhaps I do not have it set to rotate. I am not sure. I am running CentOS release 5 (Final). Passing password to script for rpmsign of list of .rpm files

I am trying to automatize signing of unsigned .rpm files. My repo has at least 50 x 3 packages. But I would have to type numerous passwords for each file. I can not see hot to pass pass phrase to script. rpmsign --resign {--pass=??} <filename from list> ???? Can someone advise me how to do that? Ljubomir
