slow sendmail going out

I am trying to find a way to "speed" up sendmail going out of my box. I am setting SMART_HOST. Dont get me wrong email does go out it just takes like 3-4 minutes to get there. When I do "mail xxxx(a)y.com" and send it the /var/log/maillog file shows the connection and shows the relay as [127.0.0.1]. Then it just SITS there for a long time. Then it picks up the mail and delivers it. No errors are show, no timeouts etc... My box does not have an MX record as I am behind the firewall (192.168.1.X). I have set the /etc/sysconfig/sendmail QUEUE=1m but that does not seem to help either. There is nothing else happening on my box so that is not slowing anything down. I've done some google'ing, some playing and nothing has helped. I tried adding the service.switch to sendmail.mc, I tried temporarily taking out dns from nsswitch.conf - and nothing seemed to help. How can I get emails exiting my box faster. Jerry

Installing/configuring a second HD

My old server was Centos 4.8 and it is on a HD that is NOT connected. The new Centos 5.5 is the active HD. Everything appears to be working, so my intent is to jumper the old HD as a slave, wipe it clean and have it as a backup drive. Since my Linux skills are minimum, I thought it best to heck with the experts to find the best (safest) way to accomplish my goal. I assume that the old drive will auto-mount, however I am not sure if it will be identified as a separate due to the Volume system (I am not near my server at the moment and I cannot remember the exact name that is used for the HD configuration). rhel nfs bug with 5.5 - nfsd: blocked for more then 120 sec

Hi all, I ran into this bug on my NFS server which is serving an XFS fs; https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=616833 It was suggested using bind mounts. My current fstab on my server is; /dev/sdc1 /SHARE xfs defaults,noatime,nodiratime,logbufs=8,uquota 1 2 Unsure how to integrate bind mounts in this scheme to see if I can avoid this bug until it is fixed. Any ideas? - aurf

cups drivers for printing pdf and tif

List, I updated a gateway/router computer with Centos 5.6 and lost the ability to print pdf and tif files with the command "lp -d printer img.tif" This new unit replaced a Fedora 5 system that had been working well, and is still able to print pdf and tif files withing the same network. I have other Centos 5.6 gateway's at different facilities that print the pdf and tif files without a problem. All of these 5.6 systems have been updated without a problem. hpijs-1.6.7-6.el5_6.1.x86_64 has already been installed. I am at a loss in trying to see the difference between my 5.6 machines and would appreciate some advice as to where to look. Thanks much for your help. Greg Ennis

use of conntrack-tools

hi i would like to use conntrack_tools on my centos server. i use the rpms from centalt but when i launch conntrack -C I got conntrack v0.9.13 (conntrack-tools): Can't open /proc/sys/net/netfilter/nf_conntrack_count Does someone already succeed in using it? Thanks in advance for any answer

Cacti rpm for el5.6 with php53

Hello, Does someone know if there's a cacti rpm available that works (=installs and doesn't conflict) when "php53" rpm is installed, instead of the older "php" rpm ? cacti rpms from rpmforge/dag have these requirements: php php-mysql php-snmp So those cacti versions conflict with "php53". I checked cacti-0.8.7g-2.el5.rf -- Pasi

5.6 - SRPM's

Hi Is there any ETA for the SRPM's from the base tree of 5.6? I need to get my hands on the src for the centos-release package as i have to rebuilt it to prevent the repo definitions from being included. I see the src's for the updates RPM's but not the base. many thanks
