You can either install them or use the TrueType fonts by using the -fa option from the command-line or setting the faceName resource in your resource-file. When are Logwatch errors really errors

Hi All, I don't know enough about when errors are *really* errors. So I google a lot to read and learn. I have a few things in my Logwatch that I want to make sure I understand 1. smartd **Unmatched Entries** Problem creating device name scan list Device /dev/sda: using '-d sat' for ATA disk behind SAT layer. Device /dev/sdb: using '-d sat' for ATA disk behind SAT layer. Device: /dev/sdc, NO MEDIUM present; skip device Device: /dev/sdd, NO MEDIUM present; skip device Device: /dev/sde, NO MEDIUM present; skip device Device: /dev/sdf, NO MEDIUM present; skip device I googled and since I know the devices I have I can comment out #DEVICESCAN -H -m root and replace with: /dev/sda -a -d sat -m root -M exec /usr/share/smartmontools/smartd-runner /dev/sdb -a -d sat -m root -M exec /usr/share/smartmontools/smartd-runner 2. kernel WARNING: Kernel Errors Present amd64_edac: probe of 0000:00:18.2 failed with error -22 ...: 1 Time(s) I googled this and I only had 5 hits that I could not make sense of. Can anyone shed some light? 3. automount **Unmatched Entries** lookup_read_master: lookup(nisplus): couldn't locate nis+ table auto.master: 1 Time(s) I googled and this seems to be a RHEL bug? Corrupted RPM DB can't be rebuilt.

Alle, I have a major problem. I'm running CentOS 5.5 on some rather old hardware (Dual Celeron 500MHz with 768MB of memory). Sometime in the last week, the DB became corrupted (I noticed when yum update would hang). I've tried running rpm --rebuild with both the 2.6.18-194.17.4 and 2.6.18-194.26.1 kernels and get a segmentation fault each time. Consequently, I'm pretty much stuck and cannot do any update. Also, the machine has a tendency to hang any time operations are done. I've disabled some of the cronjobs that do this, but this is no way to operate. I would appreciate any input on where to go from here to try and rectify the problem. Best Regards, Camron -- Camron W. This means that every package and file on the iso image is verified at the point of download allowing for a much safer download. Also, it is possible to mount an existing ISO and tell jigdo about this mount so that any packages which are duplicated exactly in the new iso do NOT need to be downloaded again. This is handy in Fedora for example when one wants to create the CD Set after already having downloaded the DVD. Why download the same thing twice. In my experience, the DVD provides all 6 CDs and approximately 10 small files are needed to be downloaded to complete the whole CD set. automated remote cloning

Good morning/day and Happy New Year. We have a geographically distributed environment (marketing speak: cloud) where we regularly need to migrate individual systems to new hardware (for bigger disks or for better geographical placement, for example). We currently use Cobbler to do our base installs automatically and I am now looking at integrating Clonezilla with Cobbler. The goal is take an *individual* system that has been customized and migrate it in an automated fashion. We currently do this using Cobbler and then running rsync and mysqldump in a script along with other system -> userland module configurations (such as PHP modules) but the process is tedious and generally a PITA. We also must have the ability to run this across different datacenters on different continents. Any pointers to good automated solutions? Hi , guys: Today , I work on my laptop which uses the CentOS x86_64 operating system , Suddenly the X-windows restarts when left at the login screen for more than a few seconds. The error in my syslog is: Apr 12 15:26:45 localhost gdm[2892]: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0 This message came up serval times previously ~ Any other help would be nice. Thanks in advance ~

Quoting practice

Hi guys and girls, It would be appreciated by many if you could strip quotes in your replies. Having to wade through a fully quoted mail to find a one or two line reply followed by one or more quoted footers is just a waste of time, bandwidth, disk space and cpu cycles. This might not be a problem if only one or two of the posters here would be lazy with regard to stripping replies, but there's quite a few of those here and if you receive hundreds of mails a day it all adds up. Also these mails end up in the mail boxes of probably thousands of readers. Please keep your quotes concise and to the point. If you have a one line reply chances are the quote you are replying to isn't much longer. Help us keep the signal to noise ratio up. Thank you very much! I also want glibc 2.7 for a particular application to run. The first step mentioned is : Step1:download nasm src.rpm from official site I did not understand what will this rpm do? I mean is that a substitute for glibc 2.7?

if you install cgi programs from rpm, how to configure for actual use in /var/www/html ?

In Centos 5.5, I've had this same experience over and over. I have no trouble installing CGI programs the old fashioned way (untar into /var/www/html and configure), but don't like un-rpm managed files floating about. So I can install, for example, phpMyAdmin, from EPEL. That phpMyAdmin RPM drops files into a bunch of locations, the php files are under /usr/share/phpMysql and then there are also: /etc/httpd/conf.d/phpMyAdmin.conf /etc/phpMyAdmin /etc/phpMyAdmin/config.inc.php and this: /var/lib/phpMyAdmin /var/lib/phpMyAdmin/config /var/lib/phpMyAdmin/save /var/lib/phpMyAdmin/upload In order to make this actually work on the web server, I copy the directory /usr/share/phpMyAdmin into /var/www/html and then I edit the /etc/httpd/conf.d/phpMyAdmin.conf. Then it works. Then a new version of the phpMyAdmin RPM is released on EPEL, it gets installed, and I have no idea what I'm supposed to do to keep my thing in /var/www/html working. I had the exact same experience with the mediawiki RPM from EPEL. It installs its files into /var/www/ var/www/mediawiki116 and /usr/share/mediawiki116 The web server required everything to b e under /var/www/html/, so I copy files in there. The mediawiki116 documentation does not mention this problem, but I've googled long enough until I found this, which agrees with me that it is necessary to copy the files over in order to use the media wiki. http://www.wikihow.com/Install-MediaWiki-on-Fedora Unfortunately, now the upgrade path is obscured.
