fuse-ntfs-3g

After installing kmod-fuse rpm, I had given "/dev/sda3 /mnt/win ntfs rw,umask=0000,defaults" in the file /etc/fstab. Then I gave mount /mnt/win. But I couldn't copy files from system to the hard disk so I removed kmod-fuse by rpm -e command. I installed fuse-ntfs-3g rpm. Now what are the changes that have to be made on the file /etc/fstab?

/bin/env

Please forgive my ignorance but I need a explanation of how to accomplish the following since I cannot figure it out from the documents. I have a Ruby script with a shebang line that looks like this: #!/usr/bin/env ruby On one particular host I have two Ruby interpreters installed; one the CentOS base version 1.8.6 in /usr/bin/ruby the other version 1.8.7 in /usr/local/bin/ruby. In my shell the which command finds /usr/local/bin/ruby. In a cron job the /usr/bin/ruby is used by the /bin/env invocation. My question is: How does one configure /bin/env to return the /usr/local/bin/ruby version? or does that question even make sense? I have looked at the alternatives command but that seems just a tad involved. And since this is a production server I am not quite ready to trust to RVM either. In the short term I have simply removed the CentOS version which has resolved the immediate issue. Almost there on getting the current US fed PIV cards working properly (and *not* pulling up the idiot coolkey stuff), and I was just looking for where ssh-agent is started automagically when you log in... and I found the thread I started early last April... and that inlcuded you, Todd, mentioning where it's started (/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc-common), so, a second tip o' th' hat to you. mark

sudo doing DNS lookup

Hi, I have a confusing problem. I have two centos 5,5 boxes. Both have sudo.i386 1.7.2p1-9.el5_5 installed I am using the same sudoers file, but the one on box A keeps trying to do DNS lookups while the one on box B does not. How do I disable this DNS lookup? The system is DELL laptop. So i am not sure if the cable of the internal PC speaker can be pulled. In preferences->sound->system beep, i unchecked the option "enable system beep". This solves the problem, but is there any way to change the system beep?

Based on other discussussions on the list my recollection is that IPSEC provides better performance if you need GigE or better data rates on your VPNs. My sense is that IPSEC may be more difficult to configure and less robust at keeping connections up, but this has probably improved in recent years. The main advantage to pptp that I see is compatibility with mobile devices. A disadvantage of PPTP, as far as I know it cannot easily be tunneled through something like a linux firewall because it uses non-standard protocol packets (not TCP/UDP). Both OPENVPN and IPSEC can easily be tunneled through most firewalls. Though I have not researched this extensively, just based on watching list of security updates that get released for Centos, Fedora etc, It seems that OPENVPN has had very few security issues. I have definely seen a few for strongswan and openswan (both are IPSEC implementations). Again this is just gut feeling, not the result of any investigation. I do note though that OPENVPN runs easily in a chroot environment, just by enabling options in the config file. I'm not sure if openswan or strongswan can do this. noatime effect

I know that with noatime attribute, http://tldp.org/LDP/solrhe/Securing-Optimizing-Linux-RH-Edition-v1.3/chap6s…, it will have a performance gain. I want to know how I can figure out how much the kernel is waiting its time without noatime. Is the possible?
