sed with several lines, how?

hyphen's [ - ] are just for marking the start/end of a pattern, but there are _not in_ the pattern! experience with Sympa to Mailman?

I have a Centos 5.5 box with Mailman installed. A new user will host lists using Mailman, moving from a Sympa based host. Sympa isn't in the repos, does anyone know why? or have any experience moving the archive from Sympa to Mailman? Dave

Checking what's running inside a httpd process

I'm trying to fix a CentOS (5.5 x86_64) VM that we have where it become unstable due to swapping. But I did notice something: I have 10 httpd processes, and 5 of them are using 13 MB of resident memory, the other are using between 91 and 96 MB of RAM. I find it quite strange to see such differences in RAM usage. I ran a "lsof -P -p" on the processes, and I didn't see any major differences, so I'm wondering what is the best way to know what the processes are doing?

Copied from the man file for chkconfig: RUNLEVEL FILES Each service which should be manageable by chkconfig needs two or more commented lines added to its init.d script. The first line tells chkconfig what runlevels the service should be started in by default, as well as the start and stop priority levels. If the service should not, by default, be started in any runlevels, a - should be used in place of the runlevels list. The sec- ond line contains a description for the service, and may be extended across multiple lines with backslash continuation. For example, random.init has these three lines: # chkconfig: 2345 20 80 # description: Saves and restores system entropy pool for \ # higher quality random number generation. This says that the random script should be started in levels 2, 3, 4, and 5, that its start priority should be 20, and that its stop priority should be 80. You should be able to figure out what the description says; the \ causes the line to be continued. The extra space in front of the line is ignored. Basically, create your file by taking one of the files as a sample and place it in /etc/init.d. Nevertheless, I could have overriden that with the ckconfig --level <levels> <name> on command options to run on other levels. [root@hakan etc]# find rc* -iname *sample*|sort rc.d/init.d/sample rc.d/rc0.d/K35sample rc.d/rc1.d/K35sample rc.d/rc2.d/S91sample rc.d/rc3.d/S91sample rc.d/rc4.d/S91sample rc.d/rc5.d/S91sample rc.d/rc6.d/K35sample and the file comment looks like below which matches the above, startup priority is 91, kill priority is 35. How to install PHP PEAR stuff best?

Hello CentOS users, I'm using gChartPhp by having copied it into /var/www/html dir. It works ok, but I wonder how to better install/organize/maintain PEAR "packages" under CentOS? I've got the php-pecl rpm installed too, wonder if it's helpful here. Or maybe just add a dir to php.ini? Please share your PHP "admin" wisdom Regards Alex -- Sent from my mobile device

centos 5.5 -software updater-break in download

Good day, New to centos, New install . Using - Software updater While updating - downloading 73 updates there was a break in the download. The break happened close to the end. Now when using software updater again will it start all over again? Go on where the break happened? Could not find on google this issue Kindly some advice please. Thanks, Regards Johan

CentOS vs. RHEL vs. Oracle Linux ?

Hi, I've been contacted by a local training center specialized in Oracle databases, to train a group of four administrators to use Linux. They're supposed to use Oracle Linux (more exactly "OL5"), which I understand is some specialized version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. I'm reasonably proficient with CentOS. I've been using it exclusively on desktops and servers since 2007 (version 4.3 if I remember correctly), after a few years on Slackware and Debian. I've setup CentOS-based networks in small town halls, public libraries and schools, my dedicated webserver is running the latest CentOS, and I've published a book about basic Linux concepts entirely based on CentOS 5.3. On the other hand, I've never got to work on the "real thing", so to speak. The only time I put my hands on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux server was to retrieve the root password for a distracted client (add init=/bin/bash to the kernel line in GRUB, mount -o remount,rw /, passwd :oD). And I never came near a machine running Oracle Linux. What differences can I expect between a server running Oracle Linux and my average server running CentOS ? As far as I can guess, their "unbreakable" Linux kernel will still be some package called 'kernel' (with the according 'kernel-devel' and 'kernel-headers' packages). Probably Yum will be used as a dependency resolver (will it?), only with different repositories. And for the rest, I except it to work the same, in that I can still use chkconfig, ntsysv, rpm, etc. (what about system-config-securitylevel-tui or similar tools?) PE850 Interrupt conflicts on CentOS 5 and onboard ethernet and pci-e serial

Hello, I have an interrupt conflict between a two port pci-e serial card and the onboard ethernet controllers in a PowerEdge 850. I'm running kernel 2.6.18-194.26.1.el5PAE with bios revision A04. In every instance, the two serial ports have been allocated the same interrupts as the two ethernet controllers. I have tried many kernel boot options, including acpi=off, pci=noirq, acpi=noirq. When I enter the bios, I can see the same interrupts allocated to the serial ports and ethernet controllers. Attempting to change the interrupts manual causes both a nic and a serial port to both change, both to the same interrupt. I have even tried disabling onboard usb and serial with no change. I'm beginning to think the pci-e serial card is broken under linux. I have a similar card running on a PE850 under Windows Server 2003 and there are no such conflicts.
