cron breaking when enabling ldap

Hi When I enable a box to do authentication using LDAP it breaks cron for users like jboss. However I am not sure that it is the "correct" fix. I would have thought that the string in /etc/ldap.conf nss_initgroups_ignoreusers would prevent this error unless I am confused about the pam ordering and sequence of how authentication happens. The cron job executes fine without LDAP enabled. Can anyone shed any more light on this error and a possible fix? I am using CentOS 5.5 fully updated. TCP flow latency graphs

Hello, we have one application which gets some data from our database but to print just one result it connects many times to the database over WAN. Of course there are some performance related problems with this type of work. I'd like to analyze (not necessary online) its tcp flow especially its latency (using port redirect on switch). Do you know any software (similar to tcpdump or so) which will let me graph/paint latency between each connection and each tcp flow ? Help! Help ! i done centos upgrade

Hi to all, i have a server with Centos 5.5 - 64 bit and i done 3 maounths ago filesystem update from ext3 to ext4. All things worked fine behind today. Today i done centos upgrade and now i'heve only GRUB Prompt. Can you help me me to strat the sterver without lose nothing? Thanks Ernatalo

CentOS 5.4 and 5.5 UPS EATON/MGE

Hi Guys, I have a couple of servers which runs CentOS 5.5 and CentOS 5.4. We have decided to buy a UPS and we choose Eaton EX RT 11 plus eaton network management card minislot. I have read on the site of Eaton that they have two applications which could gracefully shutdown my servers - LanSafe and NetWatch. My experience with UPS and those applications is zero so I`m here for some advises? Do you prefer NetWatch over LanSafe? What is your suggestions?Any info is much appreciated! Thank you in advanced!

No live migration for xen virtual machines any more

Hi folks, I have upgraded my CentOS RHCS cluster hosts to the recent packages, and now live migration of the xen virtual machines does not work any more: [root@node ~]# clusvcadm -M vm:XenVM -m othernode Trying to migrate vm:XenVM to othernode...Invalid operation for resource I have googled the net but found no recent entries for that problem, just older posts. Has anyone had the same problem recently? If yes: is there any workaround? Any hint or help is appreciated. Dirk

Is there a way to set default paper size for CentOS?

I've been a Debian geek for a long time but for a work project I've started using CentOS recently. In Debian I can set the default paper size to US-Letter for the system using dpkg-reconfigure libpaper1 Is there an equivalent configuration option for CentOS? If not, what configuration files do I need to edit? Thanks! Rick

Does anybody have any suggestions as to what may be causing this? This machine also powered off spontaneously yesterday evening after 10 days of uptime (the previous system in this 4U chassis was running SuSE Linux Enterprise 10, and died of a chipset fan failure after 1,390 days uptime :-). All major components are new, including the power supply. The only old component other than the 4U California PC chassis is the original HD with its partitions mounted read-only to get the original data. Any suggestions? To get the server working again I reinstalled the previous version of openssh and the service came up without complaint. cd /tmp; rpm -i openssh-4.3p2-41.el5.i386.rpm --force --nodeps cd /tmp; rpm -iv openssh-server-4.3p2-41.el5.i386.rpm --force --nodeps cd /tmp; rpm -iv openssh-clients-4.3p2-41.el5.i386.rpm --force --nodeps cd /tmp; rpm -iv openssh-askpass-4.3p2-41.el5.i386.rpm --force --nodeps Lacking a session terminal window on that sever I used the command shell module of webmin to execute these commands after using its upload and download module to obtain the rpms from http://mirror.centos.org/centos/5.5/os/i386/CentOS/ I tried to report this problem to CentOS as a bug but the bug reporting service did not recognize my user id and password, notwithstanding I was logged into centos.org itself at the time. -- *** E-Mail is NOT a SECURE channel *** James B. vgrename, lvrename

Hi, I want to rename some volume groups and logical volumes. I was not surprised when it would not let me rename active volumes. So I booted up the system using the CentOS 5.5 LiveCD, but the LiveCD makes the logical volumes browsable using Nautilus, so they are still active and I can't rename them. Tried: /usr/sbin/lvchange -a n VolGroup00/LogVol00 but it still says: LV VolGroup00/LogVol00 in use: not deactivating Did some googling and found out that other folks have had problems with mkinitrd, but I haven't gotten that far yet. Made a wild guess and killed my nautilus process, a lot of stuff disappeared from the desktop, then reappeared along with a new nautilus process. Network cards not recognised

Hi, We have a HP DL385 G6 server that is having an issue. Two of the 4 network cards are not being recognised by Linux. We have quite a few other servers with the same hardware and no issues but, before I call HP, I would like to make sure that I am not doing anything wrong :) I have tried with the kernel that came with CentOS 5.5 and the updated one kernel-2.6.18-194.11.3.
