Suggestion on Share folder

Hi all, I need some advise on how best manage a share folder. We have a 2TB samba share. Inside there is individual user sub-folder, and also there are team's folders. We use one shared account for all users. The problem is: The user abuse the space usage. My thought: - Implement quota for each user. - But the implication is each user must have their own account and this potentially gives additional hassle when someone forgets the password. Anyone has similar experience? Much appreciated for the thoughts. Thank you.

screen saver crash

My screen saver crash both in gnome and kde X windows when open the screen saver. I guess that some package needed is not installed. I reinstall the gnome-screen but it still crashs. How can I check which package is not installed?

trouble mounting NFS share in net install

I am trying to install the net install version of 5.5 from an NFS share that I setup with freenas. I have fully functioning DNS (hosted on freebsd) and can mount the iso share on another centos box with the command mount nas.mydomain.com:/mnt/iso1 /mnt/iso1 on that machine. The nas host in question is a freenas which I believe is NFS 4. I can / will verify if someone would care to respond to this thread. but when I go to do the same thing in the centos net install I get an error stating simply: "that directory cannot be mounted from the server". in the settings I have the following values: NFS server name: nas.example.com CentOS directory: /mnt/iso1 NFS mount options (optional): I have also tried it by ip just to be sure: NFS server name: 192.168.1.250 CentOS directory: /mnt/iso1 NFS mount options (optional): Does anyone have any suggestions that can help me get going? ip aliasing on bonded interface possible?

How to Retain Ownership on webdir

Hi, I have this webroot /webdir/ with 2775 permission so that any created file/directory by apache inside of /webdir/ will be 'users:webusers'. However, I noticed when the apache created a new files (fileB) / directories (dirB), the ownership becomes 'apache:apache' and the sgid has gone for /webdir/ (drwxrwxr-x). I'm currently using Wordpress. [before] drwxrwsr-x users webusers /webdir/ drwxrwsr-x users webusers /webdir/dirA -rw-rw-r-- users webusers /webdir/fileA [after] drwxrwxr-x users webusers /webdir/ drwxrwxr-x apache apache /webdir/dirB -rw-rw-r-- apache apache /webdir/fileB Why the sgid bit doesn't reflected and the group as well? Has anyone knows how to fix this? Thanks. Regards, James

how long to reboot server ?

we have CENTOS 5 on DELL servers. some servers have longer than one year did not reboot. Our consultant suggest we need at least reboot once every year to clean out memory junk. What is your opinion?

If i have a vpn tunnel with more than 1 ip Can i maybe configure the tunnel to give out the other ip to another computer Maybe a vm?

Alternatives to checkinstall?

I am reviewing some work that I did in June and forgot to take notes at the time. For some reason I have a nagging suspicion that for this job I used a package builder other than checkinstall but for the life of me I cannot recall the name. Now, the case may be that I actually did use checkinstall in which case not remembering the name of non-extant software is expected. On the other hand I would like to remove any doubts on the matter. If any of you have suggestions for viable alternatives to checkinstall for installing source packages on CentOS-5 as rpms then I would be much obliged.
