Remote nautilus, X display forwarding problem

I need to open a Nautilus window on a headless server, but no matter what I try it complains about the display: ✈dcl:~$ xhost + localhost localhost being added to access control list ✈dcl:~$ ssh -X user(a)ip.address [user@CentOS-55-32-minimal ~]$ export DISPLAY=localhost:0.0 [user@CentOS-55-32-minimal ~]$ nautilus --display=0:0 cannot open display: 0:0 Run 'nautilus --help' to see a full list of available command line options. [user@CentOS-55-32-minimal ~]$ Googling the situation it looks like I've covered all the steps: enabling remote X, X forwarding, display export and telling Nautilus which display to use. yum-fastestmirror inconsistent exclude behavior

Hi guys, I'm trying to figure out something wherein excluded repositories for the yum-fastestmirror plugin are still being used by the system. To illustrate: [root@sales ~]# cat /etc/yum/pluginconf.d/fastestmirror.conf [main] enabled=1 verbose=0 socket_timeout=3 hostfilepath=/var/cache/yum/timedhosts.txt maxhostfileage=10 maxthreads=15 #exclude=.gov, facebook exclude=maulvi, .gov.ph, .vn (Note the name of mirrors that I am trying to exclude) However, when I run yum, this is what I get: [root@sales ~]# yum update Loaded plugins: fastestmirror Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile Excluding mirror: mirror.pscigrid.gov.ph Excluding mirror: mirror.viethosting.vn * addons: centos.maulvi.net Excluding mirror: mirror.pscigrid.gov.ph Excluding mirror: mirror.viethosting.vn * base: centos.maulvi.net Excluding mirror: mirror.pscigrid.gov.ph Excluding mirror: mirror.viethosting.vn * extras: centos.maulvi.net * rpmforge: fr2.rpmfind.net Excluding mirror: centos.maulvi.net * updates: mirror.viethosting.vn Setting up Update Process No Packages marked for Update [root@sales ~]# If you notice, centos.maulvi.net is still being used despite me putting it on the exclude list of the fastestmirror config. Also, the behavior does not seem to be consistent as on another repo (updates), the previously excluded mirror.viethosting.vn is used. Any pointers on what I could be doing wrong? or is this a bug? access to file system through web browser

Hi. I am trying to find "something" (php prefered) that I can stick onto a Centos apache server that would allow me to browse a selected file system by employees through a web-browser "explorer like" interface. I know I can do this through WinSCP (and have done so), but my problem is I have Linux, Windows and MAC clients and my knowledge of MAC's is rather limited. I can limit access to the (php) files to (ranges of) IP addresses, so security is reasonable ok and doing this through a web interface saves me time, too, as I only have to do this once, and security fixes is easy, too. Is there anything that would imitate a tree view like interface to browse a file system? Jobst -- "She said she loved my mind, though by most accounts I had already lost it."

who uses Lustre in production with virtual machines?

I'm considering setting up a Lustre cluster system for our XEN virtual machines as shared storage, mainly for high availability on our XEN VPS servers. Does anyone use Lustre in a production environment? What is your opinions / experiences with it? One of the main reasons I'm looking at using Lustre is that we have a few older machines, of different specs that I want to use for storage purposes. i.e. I don't want to use proprietary, or matching hardware if I don't want to. Manually mounting partitions in "linux rescue" mode

I boot from the installation DVD, with an already existing CentOS 5.5 system on my hard disks. I have separate boot, root, and home partitions. I have moved the boot partition and now I need to re-initialize grub from rescue mode. Attempting to use 'rescue mode" to automatically mount my system under /mnt/sysimage eventally fails with an error message, which essentially says 'mount error' and nothing else. I am then put at a command prompt as root. So now I decide to manually mount my partitions at /mnt/sysimage and then do a chroot to /mnt/sysimage. This succeeds and when I look at my files they are there. I now try 'grub' and the 'grub' shell comes up. I now attempt the 'grub' command: root (hd0,9) only to be met with: Error 21: Selected disk does not exist. I do not know what this means and how I can correct it. Does anybody know what is going on ? One thing I am concerned about is that when I booted from the DVD and was eventually put at the command prompt, I saw there were devices in the /dev subdirectory but after I did the chroot, there were no devices in the new root's /dev subdirectory although when I had previosuly booted into CentOS 5.5 on my hard disk off course they were there. The other thing I noticed is that after the 'chroot' the 'mount' command showed only my root partition mounted on /dev/sdb8 where it actually exists ( along with sysfs and proc which I mounted from the old root ). But despite this there are no subdirectories under the new root's /dev. I am just trying to re-initialize 'grub' so I can boot my CentOS 5.5 system again. There must be a way to successfully do this from the installation DVD. If somebody can give me the steps to manually mount my partitions and succeed it would be very much appreciated.

CentOS to RedHat and vice versa

Has anyone ever tried to mass replace installed RedHat RPMS with their equivalent CentOS versions or vice versa? I was thinking of generating a list of all packages and then running RPM or yum with a 'replace' option. The reason for doing this: Years ago I was tasked with building a RHEL4 system. Budgeting, time constraints, the lunar cycle, etc.., prevented the purchase of an equivalent development environment. So CentOS was used for the development/test system. It sufficed for several years. Now I need to make them as close to identical as possible which means registering the development system in RHN and making it "standard". I've seen posts that RHEL -> CentOS is at least possible. That is, take a RHEL system and get it to update via YUM and CentOS repositories. I have not seen the reverse, however.
