Is it a way to upgrade CentOS 7 to 8?

Hi, I’m looking for a method to upgrade my centos 7 servers to 8 and I don’t find anything to do that! I’m a very newbie with CentOS? My choices where gone to Debian or Ubuntu and it was very simple. Just some files must be changed (/etc/apt/source.list). My search suggest a RELH subscription. Is it the only way? C8 and KDE

Goog morning to the list, for all users that are interested about KDE Plasma on Centos 8 you can install KDE from epel. All packages are get from epel-playground and epel-testing and some packages seems need to be build. I run "yum grouplist" and see kde workspace available. I tried to install it, reboot my machine and running startx a KDE plasma session was correctly launched. I think that this is a testing release and not ready for production but if you want play you can try. Maybe you will find bug and can help EPEL to fix. Best regards.

RAID controller recommendations that are supported by RHEL/CentOS 8?

Hi, I'm currently looking for a RAID controller with BBU/CacheVault and while LSI MegaRaid controllers worked well in the past apparently they are no longer supported in RHEL 8: https://access.redhat.com/discussions/3722151 Does anybody have recommendations for for hardware controllers with cache that should work in both CentOS 7 and 8 out of the box? CentOS 8 Installation Not Recognizing Local Disk

I have an older Dell PowerEdge server with one hard drive, with CentOS 7 currently installed. I wanted to do a clean install of CentOS 8, but it doesn't pick up the hard drive. When I click on the destination to pick the hard drive it only shows the USB drive that I'm installing from. I checked for a RAID configuration on the server, but there is only one disk, and no RAID is configured. The disk is controlled by the PowerEdge Raid Controller (PERC), but when I disable that I lose the disk completely. I suspect that PERC is part of the problem, but a CentOS 7 install proceeds normally with PERC enabled. Do you know of a change from CentOS 7 to 8 that would cause this, or if there is a workaround? I've searched for several days and haven't found anything yet. Thank you! CentOS 8 Broken Installation

Hello, Is it a Plan to correct the Broken mdadm and or driver for Intel Chipset C602, my Server SuperMicro Board X9SRi-F have a Problem with the new C8 or RH8 ? Livepatch: Linux kernel updates without rebooting

Glances for CentOS 8?

It seems that glances is not in EPEL for CentOS 8. Is that coming at some point, or has it been deprecated in favor of some other tool?

Centos 7 on Dell Latitude E6500

Hi, I tried to install Centos7 x86_64 minimal 1503-01 from an USB flash drive on my old Dell Latitude E6500 laptop. boots up in text mode, switches text resolution, writes: Started Show Plymouth Boot Screen Reached Target Paths Reached Target Basic System. then hangs for some time, eventually starting dracut emergency shell. log says: multipathd: sdb: spurious uevent, path already in pathvec multipathd: sda: spurious uevent, path already in pathvec interesting: sdb is the internal 240GB kingston SSD drive (existing ntfs bitlocker partition recognized as sdb1) sda is the write protected USB stick, recognised as CDROM drive. 4GB rom intel 45 express chipset mobile intel GMA 4500MHD graphics intel 5100AGN wifi what to try next? any additional infos I can give you? thnx in advance. -- Best regards, Rainer mailto:rfu@oudeis.org

Centos & media codec

Hello im trying to play some videos with totem on CentOS 8. I get the following message in the command line. "totem ** Message: 17:22:06.269: Missing plugin: gstreamer|1.0|totem|MPEG-1 Video decoder|decoder-video/mpeg, mpegversion=(int)1, systemstream=(boolean)false (MPEG-1 Video decoder) (totem:12230): Gtk-WARNING **: 17:22:06.270: Drawing a gadget with negative dimensions. Did you forget to allocate a size? (node slider owner GtkScale) " I also get the following message. MPEG-4 Video (Simple Profile) decoder is required to play the file, but is not installed. Any ideas what i have to install in order to play it? Thanks in advance!

Unique3 and Unique3-devel package missing from CentOS 8

These packages were in C7 - dont appear to be in C8 - not even in AppStream. How do I get them? Thanks, Jerry
