Lilo for CentOS 5?

Does there exist a version of Lilo built for x86_64 CentOS 5? what provices "replace" command?

I am used to using the replace command to quickly replace strings in file, but it's not available on some of my fresh CentOS 5.4 servers. "yum info replace", "yum whatprovides replace", and "yum search replace" doesn't show me which package(s) to install to get it. So, does anyone know which package to install to get the "replace" command? Moving LVM from one machine to another

My CentOS4 machine died (CPU cooler failure, causing CPU to die). In this machine I had 5 Tbyte disks in a RAID5, and LVM structures on that. Now I've moved those 5 disks onto a CentOS5 machine and the RAID array is being rebuilt. However the LVM structures weren't detected at boot time. I was able to "vgscan" and 'vgchange -a y' to bring the volume online and then fsck the logical volumes. But I was concerned this didn't happen at boot time. Do I need to do anything else, or have the commands I've run done sufficient? FWIW, this machine has no other LVM (nor RAID) disks on it. (only 5 more hours for the rebuild to complete!) -- rgds Stephen

Is it safe to run only the XEN kernel on dom0 host?

Hi, I have an issue with my XEN servers, in that when I do a yum upgrade, it upgrades the kernels, and then updates the grub.conf file to boot with the normal Linux kernel, and not the XEN kernel - and I tend to forget to update the grub.conf, until I reboot and see XEN isn't running. So, is it safe to remove the normal kernel & kernel-development, and only run the XEN kernel? chroot a few apps

Hi. What kind of chroot should I use, if I want to make a more secured desktop, running e.g.: pdf reader webbrowser audio player video player openoffice picture viewer mua ooo virtualbox e.g.: if theres a javascript vulnerability in google chrome [I haven't heard a NoScript extension for it :( ] a chroot would be good for stopping it from doing something bad with the whole system. or e.g.: I have to open a .doc file, that I don't trust, or a PDF can contain malicious code :( Any tips/docs/howtos? Thank you!

Recently, I experimented with a 2 node cluster and was able to run it successfully. However, I have started facing some issues with Apache, which I had configured as a service using the Cluster configuration tool. To do this Apache needs a floating IP address. This address is in addition to the network interface IP address. For example if my NIC IP is 192.168.1.1, then I need 192.168.1.2 as a floating IP address, and this has to be bound to apache. At least this is what I understood after several hours of experimentation. I also figured that if I configured 192.168.1.1 as a cluster resource and bound it to apache, the cluster manager failed to start apache and the NIC was put "off". ( In effect 192.168.1.1 was removed from the NIC ). However, the Apache service ran fine when bound to the ADDITIONAL IP i.e. 192.168.1.2 ( the floating IP ). The above example was just a lab setup to test the cluster. My problem is that I only have a single public IP address, to serve my web server and my question is this: Is this the end of the road, for installing apache as a service with ONE public IP address?? I am willing to give further info, if required.

Only tangentially on topic, at best... Given a pile of html files, comprising chapters of a book, with a single html file that serves as a table of contents to the group, how would I turn the entire book into a single PDF? I can't think of a way to do that, all I can come up with would result in a pile of PDFs, one per html. But there's gotta be a better way. Suggestions welcome. Thanks in advance! (doing this on Linux, of course, which makes it slightly on topic.)
