Rendering farm?

I received at least one email suggesting a Windows-based rendering farm - likely to consist of a few rack systems all running 64-bit Windows. I read an article on Tomshardware which gave some decent insight. What can list participants offer on this concept? I don't care _how_ the resource is implemented - virtual machine, cluster, etc. I just want to get the most resources for the money, and permit the users to get the results they need, when and how they need it. If a desktop solution can be implemented in multiuser farm environment, that would be great. Just provide links/resources to help me get better educated. Who knows, maybe others on the list would benefit from the discussion and results, too. If it makes most sense to migrate the money from a single desktop to a transparently available farm that does the same job the desktop could have done, and considering the farm is expandable, then I'm all for it, as would be the money people! Hello z00dax, any update about this issue? As i can see, in centos 5.3 the version of php still 5.1.6. Did you have any ETA to php 5.2.0 be moved to release repo? 10 Year old IT Infrastructure

Hi Guys, I have a client who hopes to keep their server another 5 years making it 10 years old at that time. At this point there are no plans to add new infrastructure or a new server to the mix. Their business model is fairly static. I'd like to see them upgrade. Can anyone suggest specific reasons why running a business on 10 year old equipment is a bad thing? Specific arguments I can think of would be: - Hard/Impossible to find replacement hardware - Lack of support for both H/W and S/W - Possibly unable to run current versions of CentOS - Higher probability of hardware failures over time - Performance bottlenecks Any other thoughts? SVN hell!

Hi! I'm trying to install SVN on a latest version of CentOS (5.3). Launch applications on GNOME startup ?

Hi, I just installed and configured Conky, and I'd like to automatically launch it whenever I start a GNOME session. I expected to see some sort of Preferences>Launch Applications on Startup, some user-specific equivalent of rc.local, but there doesn't seem to be such an entry. Any suggestions? Niki

Resolv.conf with multiple adaptors on multiple networks

Hi All, I did a clean install of CentOS 5.3 yesterday. During setup I activated both adapters on startup. etho is my public IP and eth1 is my private/internal IP. It did not let me specify nameservers though. So I know this is resolv.conf. I know I put in: nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx But how do I put in nameservers for specific networks? Example, I want my public IP to resolve to the comcast name-servers top get out to things like Google. I want internal to default to my internal DNS once I have it setup. -Jason

Cant map Apache DAV network place to network drive

Hello: I have set up a DAV file system on my apache server using these directives in ssl.conf: Alias /files /var/www/files <Directory /var/www/files> Dav On AuthType Basic AuthName "Filesystem access" AuthUserFile /var/www/files.passwd require valid-user Options Indexes </Directory> On my client machine (Windows XP SP3), I am able to add the https location as a network place. But, when I go to map the network place as a network drive, I can browse to the network place and see the folders, but the OK button is always greyed out. Is there something wrong in my Apache config or is Windows being obtuse? Does anyone know how to fix this? RSync Issues

Hi All, Rsyncing to a USB drive. I am in single user mode. I am doing: rsync -avx --stats --progress --ignore-existing --exclude 'home/backup/ data' / /mnt/sdb2/ But I dont see if ignoring existing. A previous rsync stalled and now it seems to be copying them again rather than ignoring them. Does anyone have thoughts? -ML
