xfs

I used to be able to 'repair' ext4 fs issue (when the boot process drops you into emergency mode)... but now with xfs - it does not seem to let me do that. xfs_repair /dev/sda3 or xfs_repair -L /dev/sda3 both say fatal error fatal error -- couldn’t initialize XFS library How can I repair XFS with burning a DVD and finding an external USB reader etc... Hi, folks, Well, it's ten years that I've been on this list, right when I started this job. But, it's time to move on... I'm retiring. (Yeah, that old.) So, though I'll be part time for a few months, and running CentOS at home (in spite of my manager's pushing me to do Ubuntu). This list is *so* much more useful than any of the ones I've seen for Ubuntu, or much else. I'm very much looking forward to C 8. One more thing: I know I've been over the top on ethics "I work for a US federal contractor, but not saying more", even though there's folks like Todd, who's military. Anyway, now that I'm out, today, my line (in person) was, "I'm with the federal goverment, and I'm here to help you." Then, after they ask if I'll have to kill them, I can say, no: I've been with the NIH, and so, yes, I really meant it. I'll show up occasionally, but not like I have been. So long, and thanks for all the fish. mark

Slideshow/presentation software for CentOS

I am looking for software to make slideshows/presentations on CentOS, incorporating photos, videos and text (possibly also music) allowing for transition effects etc. I'd like to be able to drag and drop/rearrange photos etc. from different folders into a timeline and eventually end up with something I can show. Ideally without having to make copies of photos and store them in a folder specific for this but drag and drop from whatever folder the photo etc. already exists in. Impress and similar PowerPoint-like software excluded. I have found a few packages on the net but nothing that is still being developed. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.

Why is the branch c6 empty for every rpm packages?

Hi, I wan't to find the sqlite & python rpm packaging files in git.centos.org, but I found that the branch c6 for centos 6 are all empty. Is that because centos 6 reached its end? Or where can I find the packaging files? Best regards, WqyJh

C7.6 Update problem

Hi list, today I tried to update my centos workstation (7.6.1810). My problem concerns kmod-nvidia update. Nvidia driver where installed by elrepo. Reading from this https://elrepo.org/bugs/view.php?id=920&nbn=4 seems that kmod-driver was uploaded for 7.7 release but centos is on 7.6. I'm not using elrepo-testing but yum try to update 7_7 version. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance

Extend DHCP range

I have a simple DHCP range . option routers 192.168.1.1; subnet 192.168.1.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 { range 192.168.1.60 192.168.1.129; range 192.168.1.150 192.168.1.199; } So I want to add a range 192.168.2.1 -> 192.168.2.254 so I did this: subnet 192.168.1.0 netmask 255.255.254.0 { range 192.168.1.60 192.168.1.129; range 192.168.1.150 192.168.1.199; range 192.168.2.1 192.168.2.254; } then tried to restart the dhcpd server... This did not work. How do I get more dhcp addresses ? Thanks, Jerry

kmod-nvidia-430.40-1.el7_6.elrepo.x86_64 fails to install

Everyone, On August 2, my desktop unit updated with kmod-nvidia-430.40-1.el7_6.elrepo.x86_64nnn which broke yum having a multiple of dependencies not being present. I uninstall kmod- dvidia with the hopes that a fresh install would fix the provlem, but it did not. nvidia-detect returns : kmod-nvidia An Intel display controller was also detected I was hoping that this was a repository problem that would become fixed, but I am still now unable to reinstall kmod-nvidia. Has anyone else had this problem, and does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might begin a fix. I would surely like to use my nvidia card again. Thanks for your help!!! Greg Ennis

What is "Release Work"? (CentOS 8)

<https://wiki.centos.org/About/Building_8> Everything in the task list shows "done". Yay! Except the last item, "Release work", which isn't in the Definitions at the end. Does this mean it just needs to be rolled up into an installation ISO? I see activity in Koji but I don't know what it means: <https://koji.mbox.centos.org/koji/index> (I don't intend this to be nagging. I just seek help in reading the runes.)

CentOS7/Cups/Ldap

Hi, I've posted this on cups forum several days ago but did not receive any suggestion. May be Centos Users/admins could give me some advices. I've setup my first cups server to provide printing services to several clients (instead of each CentOS client reaching the printer). It is a dedicated VM running CentOS7. On the web interface all requests belong to Withheld user and it is difficult to know who is printing and who can cancel his request. Is there some documentation/tutorial to instruct cups to use a remote ldap server to identify users? Of course users should not be allowed to log on the cups server with ssh! Thanks Patrick
