Is sendpage or some other alphanumeric paging program available from one of the repos for CentOS 5? I've checked rpmforge and epel. I just wanted to check to see if it might be available somewhere else before I resort to building from source. -- Bowie

The sound is bad, / Lance vanished from the project some time in 2008. Everybody needs time off from projects from time to time, so there was no real need to worry about that. What there was to worry about is the following: Lance is the only one, who can make active changes to the centos.org domain, as he “owns it”. Nobody else in the team is able to add nameservers, for instance. Recently he put an anonymizing service on the domain, so that nobody from the outside can see who that domain belongs to. / So sad...... -- Regards, David ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ./nobody

New sshd_config - what has changed?

I see that there is a new sshd_config in the latest updates. Since I have altered the original file, this one got installed as .rpmnew It has two changes: > #AddressFamily any So does this make it default to IPv4 only? > #ChrootDirectory none Chroot is now an option for SSH?

sadc output to a circular file of given size?

Hey folks, We have Munin set up for longer term performance monitoring stuff, and it has been extremely useful to us for what it does. However, it is hard coded to poll systems at 5 minute intervals, which of course proves not to be so useful when you have to dig down into more detail on something. What we typically do for load tests where we need more detail, is run this command : /usr/lib64/sa/sadc -d -I -F 2 /var/log/foo/bar Which of course logs data every 2 seconds. We now have a problem with our PostgreSQL server and want to set something up to record sadc data more frequently than the 1 minute limitation of cron. Though 2 seconds is probably a bit much, we are thinking more like 5 or 10 seconds. So the above command would be ideal. Except ... what if it fills up the disk? I looked at the man page and do not see any obvious way to get it to write out to a file of given size, and just keep overwriting the oldest data in that file. That way would could pre-allocate a big file of a given size, and be able to store the last X minutes of sadc data. So when the PG system crashes again (sigh), we can review the data for the last X minutes before the crash. One solution I could think of is if there is some kind of filesystem to implement this sort of circular file. Any ideas? Any other obvious solution I am missing? Bind 9.3.4-10.P1.el5_3.3 check-names and underscores

Updating old CentOS 4 DNS servers to CentOS 5, one of our zones has a number of entries with underscores in. Starting named results in the following error and named refusing to start. masters/example.com.db:33: mail_server.example.com: bad owner name (check-names) I've tried including check-names master ignore; in the options but this isn't making any difference. I've read a lot of debate on whether underscores should be allowed, but for the time being we're stuck with these entries so I need to get this working. Any thoughts? Thanks, jc

problem installing CentOS 5.3

I did visit the link and found what I interpreted as a replacement iso for the first disk of 4. Did I misinterpret something ? I downloaded disks 2 through 4 from the Ga. Tech mirror and burned them as well, all apparently without error. However, when I attempted to run a media check from "i586 text nousb" the first disk passed but the others resulted in "unable to find install image on /tmp/cdrom" (or something close to that, I am quoting from memory). I looked at the disks and they appear to be OK, and I burned them with the same commands I used for disk 1. Does this mean I needed to gets disks 2 through 4 elsewhere ? Only disk 1 of the set was on the link I visited. Another question, and perhaps I need to google this more but thought I'd ask: On the system I am trying to install this I already have on hda msdos and RH9. I have a large disk on hdc, however, with lots of free space. It appeared that by telling the installation program to use only hdc I could successfully put CentOS there, but when it came time to tell grub what other systems to boot I it recognized dos on hda1, but I could find no way to add RH9 on hda2. It seemed that I was limited to only two operating systems. Is there a way around this ? (If not I intend to physically swap the hard disks and just install on the new hda, keeping stuff on the old hdc for reference). But if it is possible to keep the two existing systems on hda and put CentOS on hdc, and have grub on the mbr of hda control the boot I'd like to do that. Thanks, Buz Davis
