Does this RHEL 5 security update not apply to CentOS 5? I've been waiting for a new kernel to be released by the CentOS team, but it's apparently not coming? - Mark A.

Is the NFS lockd bug fixed ?

Hi, I notice other users reporting problems with NFS lockd and was under the impression the problem was solve with "kernel-2.6.18-92.1.13.el5". I am runing x86_64 versions of "kernel-2.6.18-92.1.22.el5.centos.plus" ( i need XFS) on my nfs server and "kernel 2.6.18-92.1.22.el5" on my clients. I constantly get this error "lockd: server 192.168.10.2 not responding, timed out" Does the most recent "centos_x64" kernel has the lockd patch ? maybe my problem is elsewhere, I never had problem with NFS before .. thanks, alain

Samba Permissions - Sanity check

Greetings list- I have a Samba-centric question to ask. I have a particular user who claims Samba has the ability to allow users to create/edit/modify existing files of a share but NOT delete them. To my knowledge, the aforementioned permissions require the user to have write access to the share which *ALSO* gives them the ability to delete files as well. The Samba server is nothing special, simply the latest Samba running on CentOS 5, ext3 filesystem. I've been around and around on this topic and I'm just hoping someone can give me a little sanity by confirming 'yay or nay' whether this is possible or not. --Tim

why no /dev/loop0 in install chroot system?

Hi, just out of curiosity: Within a kickstart postinstall script, I tried to do a loop mount, which failed. It turns out that there is no /dev/loop0 (no /dev/loop<x>). After creating it with mknod /dev/loop0 b 7 0 everything works fine. Now this script executes in the chroot system. This is the system on the hd. A plain chroot system should not have any /dev or /proc mounted. But actually, it does: + cat /proc/mounts rootfs / rootfs rw 0 0 /proc /proc proc rw 0 0 /dev /dev tmpfs rw 0 0 /dev/pts /dev/pts devpts rw 0 0 /sys /sys sysfs rw 0 0 none /tmp ramfs rw 0 0 none /tmp/ramfs ramfs rw 0 0 /proc/bus/usb /proc/bus/usb usbfs rw 0 0 /tmp/loop0 /mnt/runtime squashfs ro 0 0 /tmp/sda1 / ext3 rw,data=ordered 0 0 /tmp/sda3 /home ext3 rw,data=ordered 0 0 /tmp/sys /sys sysfs rw 0 0 /tmp/proc /proc proc rw 0 0 /dev /dev tmpfs rw 0 0 So I assume that centos kindly does a bind mount of these pseudofilesystems (?) from the install system for me, so that the chroot system is a fully functional system. (Is that true?). If that is so, why is there no /dev/loop0? Isaac

[CLUSTER] Bugfix in cman for Centos 5.2

Hello * For anybody who is interested. There is a "critical" bug in cman (2.0.84) CentOS 5.2 provides. This is already known and fixed. The bug can be found here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=485026 I backported the fix to the current CentOS version (2.0.84). Hi, I installed a CentOS 4.7 server, the system information is: # cat /etc/sysconfig/network NETWORKING=yes HOSTNAME=mail.domain11.com # hostname mail.domain11.com #echo "test " | mail -s "test mail" someone(a)domain22.com I would like to receive mail is root(a)domain11.com, but I received is root(a)mail.domain11.com How to correct it? (I've tested there is no problem in CentOS 5.2) Best regards

iptables question

Hi, I have two servers in the same subnet, one has this arrangement: BOX A [3 ips, one real two vips] BOX B [1 ip] I need to redirect input from one of the vips (192.168.0.1:8080) on BOX A to BOX B (192.168.0.2:8080) and I'm about to pull my hair out. Can anyone lend a hand? All my searching leads me to home firewall type arrangements using DNAT. Is there some equivalent to talk or write for Gnome? I have a number of users on a Centos LTSP server who would like to be able to send each other messages, "Joe is calling for you on line 3", "Are you ready to go for lunch?" and so on. Ideally, I would like something that would pop up a message on their Gnome desktop. Marvell Yukon 8056?

Greetings list- I've got a server 'in the mail' and I see now on the specsheet that it has Marvell Yukon 8056 NICs onboard. Since I cannot seem to find a HCL for Centos 5 or RHEL5 to help verify, I'd like to know if it works 'out of the box' on CentOS 5.x or is there additional work to make it function (properly)? My searching has revealed that there are in fact two different drivers for Marvell hardware... sky2 and sk8lin? Any pointers, tips, experiences, etc appreciated. Thanks! --Tim
