DVD ripper for CentOS Stream 9

Hi, Does anybody know of a good DVD transcoder/ripper which runs on Stream 9/10. I've used HandBrake up to now but it doesn't appear to be in the usual third party repos, EPEL or RPMFusion. I tried flatpak but the version there doesn't include libdvdcss so it can't decode commercial music DVDs. Then I tried snap but there is no snap package available. Any suggestions, then I can finally throw away my 15yo Dell Laptop running CentOS 8. Regards, Tony.

Hi, have you ever heard of a recruitment firm going so far as to pursue legal action against an employer for failing to provide feedback or progress a candidate's application? An employer refused to provide feedback or progress with a candidate; but instead immediately, abruptly and suspiciously cancelled their contract with the recruitment firm. This is a recruitment firm that had a good track record. They are headhunters rather than recruiters. They would meet with the hiring managers to understand the requirement, go to market, and proactively headhunt candidates. This process involves crafting compelling narratives around the employer and their business to secure candidate interest and engagement. Not your jump on linkedin and send messages. The recruitment firm experienced an issue with one manager that was brought to the attention of HR and the CTO (recently retired). Issue such as a) Unfounded reasons for rejecting qualified applicants; b) Frequent changes in hiring location preferences; c) Inappropriate comments to the recruiter about a candidate; d) Allegedly describing the job to a candidate during an interview as "shovelling horse shit" . This manager may now have more influence. The recruitment firm has written a one-page letter to the employer but the employer has sent a 4 page reply back. The employer's letter also states that they have no obligation or reason to provide feedback, engage in further communication, or follow up on the candidate(s) introduced. They have gone so far as to write a four page letter defending their position in response to the recruitment firms-one page letter. Does the employer's response not sound fishy to people? Furthermore the recruitment firm attempted to speak with the HR person that cancelled the contract and they refused to remark on the candidates introduced BUT they did remark on the recruitment consultants assumed skin color and gender as well reference their business as a "one-man band". This is an unfolding story but I think it is about time someone did something about employers ghosting candidates. // James

dnf repos very slow & mirrors?

hi guys. For last few days getting anything with 'dnf' is difficult - is impossibly slow. Everything else works normal - Fedora boxes calling their repos are fast as always. Anybody sees the same/similar? thanks, L.

I'm still trying to get away from Centos 6 but I have to get some other things working first so the business keeps running. Now I'm trying to get a new IP address for a Windows 10 PC. No matter what I do, it continues to get the same old address. The C6 DHCP server has a defined static IP address for this PC based on its MAC address. I've deleted all references to the old address in /var/lib/dhcpd/dhcpd.leases and restarted dhcpd. I've found a way to get W10 to forget its old address and send DHCPDISCOVER to C6. But the C6 server responds by offering the old address, not the defined static address. Where is it keeping this old information? Gluster issue with qcow2 files?

Hi guys. I'm experiencing a weird issues with GlusterFS on my Centos 9 Stream. I emailed gluster mailing list but - although list is quiet - my emails do not get through, though I receive email from that list(perhaps some dmarc/dkim with Yahoo issues as other mailing list had it) So I described it here - https://github.com/gluster/glusterfs/issues/4588 Does anybody here sees the same or similar, but if not still, all thoughts are much appreciated. thanks, L.

hi guys. I have two virtually identical hardware boxes which report qcow2 sizes differently: -> $ du -xh /00-VMsy//enc.vdb.back1.proxmox.qcow2 2.9G /00-VMsy//enc.vdb.back1.proxmox.qcow2 -> $ du -xh /00-VMsy//enc.vdb.back1.proxmox.qcow2 71G /00-VMsy//enc.vdb.back1.proxmox.qcow2 I checked I though obvious places: ext4 header shows the same features, I also looked at NVMes which all are formated with the same block size, mountpoins mount the same way. But, I must be still missing something... trivial? I'm thinking - perhaps some kernel tunables - but if so, which ones I cannot find. 'ls' reports the same everywhere, virtual 71G size. (so with spares) All thoughts shared are much appreciated. thanks, L.

Problems with CentOS 8 kickstart

Hi All, I am having problems with a kickstart install of CentOS 8 When I try to do a completely automated install using PXE/UEFI it get to the point where it reads the kickstart config file. Samba on Centos 6

Sorry to address such an old and obsolete system. A customer is migrating up from Centos 6 but needs to keep it working a little while longer. The issue now is that Windows users are unable to map a drive letter to a Centos directory. When they go to map the drive (to "\\ip\public"), Windows says the connection is rejected, with no further details. I presume some configuration is set wrong but I haven't been able to find it after reading man pages and Google stuff. Samba is installed and so is samba-swat. But I can't get port 901 open so I can verify proper configuration of SMB.
