centos 5 is reporting invalid mac address

I have not see this before... Installing centos 5 on m2n-mx motherboard the onboard forcedeth driver loads and says invalid mac address "97:42:40:F3:18:00" Anyone else ever seen this before? Is it fixable? I went to support.asus.com and searched for "invalid mac address" they say sorry no data. Jerry

CentOS 5.0 install fails every time.

Hey all, I've downloaded the latest CentOS 5.0 and the md5sums look good. I loop-back mounted the ISOs and pulled all of the RPMs out into a single dir. I have an existing PXE environment with several different distros to which I added 5.0. RPMs are served from my HTTPS server. I used the isolinux.cfg that was provided and all *looks* good. The problem is that on 4 *very* different systems I get the same error. I install to the point in the installer where the X.org server shows the big "X" cursor with the black background and it just freezes. I hit Ctl-Alt-F3 and see the same message repeating over and over again.... Unable to find temp path, going to use ramfs path Unable to find temp path, going to use ramfs path Unable to find temp path, going to use ramfs path Unable to find temp path, going to use ramfs path Unable to find temp path, going to use ramfs path Unable to find temp path, going to use ramfs path ... Desktop effects on KDE?

Hello Since I prefer KDE I enabled that as my default session. However the desktop effects don't seem to work there, although they did in Gnome. Any way to enable them? Johnny Ljunggren

Tribes 2 server

I'm upgrading my colocated game server from Fedora Core 2 and was considering CentOS 5 for it. The principal game is Tribes 2, a native Linux port. Has anyone successfully run T2 on a recent version of CentOS, particularly 5? I'm mostly worried about library compatibility.

CentOS 4.4 and dns cache

Hi, I have this mail server running CentOS 4.4 I've installed in it a djbdns dns cache running at 127.0.0.1 Everything works just fine, except yum. Is there a way to turn this around ? Any help would be appreciated. Warm Regards, -- :wq! Mário Gamito

ATI radeon X300

What is it with the names (and the baby-poo backgrounds) these Ubuntu people use? Anyhow .. has anybody managed to install Feisty as a Xen guest on a CentOS 5 box? Anaconda exception: installation media already mounted

I'm trying to install CentOS5 i386 from DVD ISO to my new second SATA drive. I boot from a USB key and tell it to use the DVD image on sda5 (ext3, an FC5 boot partition), installing to a default partition setup on sdb. I tell it to install grub to sda (where my old FC5 grub install lives), with WinXP64 on sda1 as a non-default additional OS. Right after that I get an Anaconda exception that the installation media is already mounted. What now?

Only 1.2x when burning DVD

Hello all I've got a Matshita dvd-ram uj-830sx that is performing very bad on my freshly installed CentOS 5. I'm using k3b and get a steady 1.2x which is way too slow. I think it is supposed to do ~8x and the discs are 16x. Any suggestions? (hdparm -c 1 -d 1 /dev/hdc turned on 32-bit IO but only helped slightly) Johnny Ljunggren

Which repositores?

Hello all I'm new to RHEL/CentOS so I'm wondering what repositories people add/enable to get all the extras they want? Especially multimedia stuff. I tried to enable [contrib] but that didn't seem to be available (yet). I then added rpmforge and atrpms which seem to work. However I've read that atrpms may wreak havoc on my installation; is it best to keep it disabled? What about rpmforge? I found something called kbs-CentOS-Misc as well but it was not available. So, what repositories do you suggest for a workstation type of installation? Johnny Ljunggren
