FW: FDISK Help please in Centos 4.3

Hi, Is it possible to create one raid volume of 3.3 TB (9550SX-8lp X WD5000YS - 8nos) and create a file system with ext3? (CentOs4.3 64bit) The maximum I am getting is 1.24tb and fdisk returns no more space available. But when I say fdisk /dev/sda it list full size of 3.3 TB. But I can not create partitions more than 1.24TB. Any idea? Thanks Rajeev

Flash streams sound distorted

Hi gang! I'm hoping for some advice here,... I've been having this problem for a while and have come to the point where I need someone else's guidance/suggestions/help... I'm running a Cenotos-4 system. It was originally a TAO Linux-1 system, that was upgraded to Tao-4, and subsequently switched (via yum, using the procedure created by the Tao maintainer with--I assume--assitance from the Centos maintainers) to Centos-4. Ever since the upgrade from tao-1 to tao-4, Flash audio is horribly distorted. I've reinstalled the flash-7 plugin more than once, most recently today. Today I also went through the entire system making sure there is only a single copy of the files flashplayer.xpt and libflashplayer.so, and that they are the newest ones from today. What brings it to a head today is that my local NPR station appears to have switched to providing their audio stream as flash. At least I am no longer offered any choice (it used to allow us to choose windows media, real, or quicktime, all of which worked with mplayer), flash being what I get. I'm open to suggestions. build Centos source/rpms from scratch...

Hi... as a project, i'm trying to find the Centos Source code/rpms, in droder to completely build the OS from scratch. I'm going to also want to build the OS in the debug mode. can someone point me to the codebase, as well as any docs that cover the overall process.... it's been quite awhile since i've done this process... thanks

Updating Kernel with Up2date

Hi, I have installed Centos 4.3 64bit with Kernel 2.6.9-34 using a driver disk for 3ware raid controller. I had partitioned this raid disk with Parted, and made ext3 file system on it. mounted and updated in /etc/fstab. It automatically mounts when I reboot the machine. Now when I do an up2date and update the kernel to 2.6.9-34-0.2 the system doesn't recognize the raid disk. I have checked the /lib/modules/2.6.9-34.0.2.ELsmp/kernel/drivers/scsi folder and found the files 3w.9xxx.ko and 3w.xxxx.ko. But when the system boots with the new kernel it doesn't detect the 3 ware Raid disk. Any idea why this could happen. ? Thanks Rajeev R Veedu

CentOS vs. Nokia Phones

Interesting thing is that I have VMWare installed on this machine and, if I install the Nokia Suite inside it, it can access the phone without problems. So all hardware related parts are working. Anyway, kernel load the cdc_acm module, and gives me /dev/ttyACM0. Accessing this tty (cu -l, minicom, take your pick), I can issue AT commands and get responses. So far so good. But then I try to access it using some software (gnokii, obex, gammu), it simply won't work. Trying to use usbserial instead of cdc_acm gives exactly the same result. Does anyone has any better experience with this setup ? Tape backup question.

Hello, I want to backup my PE2800 on tape but I'm not sure how to do this. My PE2800 has a RAID5 setup with 2 72GB SCSI disks and a Seagate DAT-2 72GB internal tape-streamer and I'm running Centos 4.3 with the latest yum updates. I'm not sure if this tape-streamer is recognised by the OS properly because it doesn't show up along with my DVD/floppy I also recieved with the server a copy of Galaxy Express software from Dell but from what it looks this seems to be more of a client/server backupprogram and not really functional on a standalone server. So how does one backs up + restores a complete HD (incl. MBR) like a ghost image or something on a tape. Any good software or howto's you can suggest would be much appreciated. kind regards, Geert
