Web site not responding with Firefox 52.6.0 (64-bit)

I don't know if this is a CentOS7/Firefox problem or one with the distant web site slashdot.org. I can connect to it just fine with the latest Firefox on my Windows 10 desktop PC, but not with Firefox 52.6.0 on this CentOS 7.4 laptop. This has been an on-going problem for several weeks. Google search results are sketchy. slashdot.org may have been a DDOS target today, but as I write this network monitors say it's up and running. RC4 deprecation may be a factor, but I doubt it. I can traceroute to the site just fine, and its URL resolves with no trouble. The error message I'm getting is "The connection has timed out" The URL I've used forever is: https://slashdot.org/index2.pl?fhfilter=journal&source=autorefresh&nobeta=1 I'm stumped. why does "rescue" mode bring me to runlevel 5 (multi-user target)?

finishing a week of teaching a comptia linux+ class off of centos 7.4 and wanted to demo how to boot to "rescue" mode, so i rebooted, selected "rescue" mode at grub menu, which still booted to full multiuser, graphical mode. what am i doing wrong? or is this a dumb question? rday -- ======================================================================== Robert P. Going back to a minimal system : strange problem

Hi, Some time ago I wrote a little script elaguer.sh ("élaguer" means "to prune") which simply removes all packages that are *not* part of a minimal installation. First I created a list of packages that make up a minimal CentOS installation. On a fresh install, I would do something like this: # rpm -qa --queryformat '%{NAME}\n' | sort > minimal.txt Here's the resulting list of packages. I added a comment on top: https://github.com/kikinovak/centos-7-server-lan/blob/master/config/pkglist… And here's the script to prune the installation, e. g. remove everything that's not on the list. https://github.com/kikinovak/centos-7-server-lan/blob/master/elaguer.sh This script worked perfectly for some time. But now it seems like something has changed somewhere under the hood. Because when I run it now, the script fails at the final package removal stage. One curious detail: it seems like it tries now to remove 'yum' and 'systemd', so 'yum' exits with an error. But it didn't do that before, so my guess is either 'yum' behaves differently now, or package dependencies are calculated differently. Anyway, I'm a bit clueless here. Any suggestions? Mirror Problem

Hello, I have thousands of this messages on my servers ?? pid_max

I have two systems both running CentOS 7.4 one shows pid_max as 32768 the other shows pid_max as 49152 Why might that be ? I would have thought they would be the same. I have not changed them. Thanks, Jerry

Best practices to manager multiples sysadmins working as root with multiple servers?

Hello In my new company they have a lot of CentOS linux servers. I was wondering what is the best practice do manage access root to a multiples sysadmin in multiple servers. Pupper? Ldap? Proxy Server with ssh? Thanks for attention.

Any alternatives for the horrible reposync

Hi, I'm currently trying to mirror a couple of yum repositories and the only tool that seems to be available for this is reposync. Unfortunately reposync for some inexplicable reason seems to use the yum config of the local system as a basis for its work which makes no sense and creates all kinds of problems where cache directories and metadata gets mixed up. Are there any alternatives? Some repos support rsync but not all of them so I'm looking for something that works for all repos. Regards, Dennis

It looks like the setup requires the use of software; they have some packages that are ready made for Ubuntu and Debian, but not RedHat https://www.ubnt.com/download/unifi/unifi-ap-ac-pro Have any of you tried or succeeded in installation this on Centos 7.4?
